When I joined this company, SnapMirror was already set up.

We have used multiple other storage solutions including RecoverPoint for our EMC VNX arrays. We've recently been using EMC high-end storage with SRDF, which can do a kind of real-time replication. It wasn't a matter of switching to NetApp, the product was purchased for a different purpose. We needed unified storage where SAN and NAS are provided from the same storage.

I've been fortunate enough to work with almost all the major vendors in the enterprise storage area. I worked with Pure Storage years ago, and it is an awesome product I highly recommend. We did not continue with Pure Storage for my latest assignment and chose NetApp instead. NetApp is very good and almost on the same level compared to Pure Storage. Pure Storage is slightly better at what it does compared to NetApp. However, NetApp is more comprehensive, which means it has more features than Pure Storage, though Pure Storage is a more solid all-round product. But when compared with other storage technologies from other vendors, like HP, Dell's PowerVault, or PowerMax series, NetApp is a bit ahead. It's also ahead of others like Infinidat or IBM's storage arrays.

Our customers also use other solutions along with NetApp.

It is not to say I ONLY use NetApp. That is simply not true. I just prefer NetApp. I have implemented storage solutions from pretty much all vendors. It mostly comes down to a business decision of cost vs. benefit. NetApp is not cheap by any stretch but you do get what you pay for.

We've used other vendors from time to time, but it is more because of political issues - nothing technical.

We did not previously use a different solution. It was entirely a different use case. Previously, we were using a Windows-based file server. We didn't have the high availability and replication to secondary site, also snap shot's capability, which is what we were looking for. 

Previously I did not use another solution. This is the only solution that I have used.

Yes i have used solution from HDS and Fujitsu and the company accquire Netapp and so their dont back more .

No - this is the best tool from Netapp and we never thought of any other tool. In fact, all additional features like Netapp Datamotion for vfilers use SnapMirror as their backend.

We did previously use a different solution. We switched because the cost was so high.
