NetSuite ERP Valuable Features

GH
Director at ProfitFromERP

The most valuable feature is that it works according to how the Internet works. Companies are also able to use it for a variety of workflows and to get people that normally weren't involved in financials into using the system to coordinate all areas of the business. I know that sounds like a mouthful, but what we realized with NetSuite is that a lot of times, when we would be in situations where clients are looking at demos, they'll say, "Okay, we want to see how this works, show us a journal entry". Well, the journal entry is very similar to every other traditional ERP journal entry because they're accounting journals. But when it comes down to logging on and seeing the things that I need to take care of today, and when I improve something, it appears on somebody else's desktop. Being able to report, not only on financial matters but on business issues as well, opens up the product to a whole new level of people.

The statistics that Oracle likes to put out, show that NetSuite companies grow at five times the rate of the S&P 500. This is misleading because the types of companies that are interested in being efficient, moving forward, and being dynamic, are the types of companies that will select NetSuite in the first place. Yes, they have a much higher rate of growth than the average company out there, but I don't know that that's because they're using NetSuite or because that's the kind of company that would be attracted by something like NetSuite.

As NetSuite ERP is a cloud product, a valuable feature I found in it is the very friendly user interface. You can set up shortcuts within the applications for frequently used reports or navigation. You can also customize dashboards in NetSuite ERP.

Another feature I found valuable in the solution is good reporting. It has many industry-standard reports focused on finance and inventory.

I also like the seamless switching between production and test environments and that you can customize the environments within NetSuite ERP. For example, you can put banners on your test and production environments to differentiate or segregate the logins to prevent mistakes. The solution is pretty easy to use and navigate, and it's more of a lightweight software. I like that it's a cloud product, so work is done on the front end rather than the back end.

There's also a community for NetSuite ERP where you can raise your queries and issues. You'll find other people sharing experiences about common issues so you can get quick fixes from the community.

You also have the option to raise tickets with the NetSuite ERP support team. You don't need to log into a separate support portal to raise a ticket. From your NetSuite login ID, you can navigate to Support and submit a ticket, making it more convenient for the end user than having a different login for the support portal. The support portal is integrated with the application, so you can directly go to the support tab and raise tickets for any issues. I find this another valuable feature in NetSuite ERP.

The solution supports many integrations with other applications through CSVs, REST APIs, and SOAP APIs. I like that NetSuite ERP is flexible in terms of integration with third-party applications.

NetSuite ERP has many blog content, and other content you can learn from that can tell you more about the solution, so this is another valuable feature.

NetSuite ERP's finance model and how they manage the budget and procure-to-pay process, apart from the fact they are easy to install and that they provide a nice dashboard are some of the solution's valuable features.

First of all, it's really easy to use. It has great functionality and is perfect mostly for a company where they're in the initial stage or even the middle stage of its own development. If they want to quickly start with an ERP system that is ready to use, it's really helpful.

It's good value for money as well. We can install the bundles based on our needs.

At the same time, the team has a good support system, in case we run into any issues and they do provide a lot of configurations and customization options. If something is not working out, we can customize that as well.

One more very good point which I have seen while using NetSuite is, that they provide all the leading processes already in-built, whether it's the OTC or P2P, or test to order. All those configurations are already ready to use. We just have to put our data and we can start running those. Unlike others, you don't have to customize.

Most of the customers we approach are using lower-tier ERP systems, such as manual Excel sheets or manual processes. However, after implementing NetSuite, they benefit from its cloud-based system and lack of need for hardware management. Furthermore, they don't need to do any customization as the system is straightforward and standard. This saves them time and money. NetSuite also allows them to quickly get responses with reports and have visibility of their finances and supply chain in real-time, whereas they were previously dependent on another system for BI dashboards. All of these advantages are available in a single system.

The feature I find most valuable is the reporting function as I work in accounting. There is an innumerable number of data analyses and reports that you could be called to do on a daily basis. The ability for just your average users to do what they call customized reporting or searches is very simple. Again, it's a user-centric tool. You don't have to have involvement with your IT function. If you're in a New York company, especially in software, where you have engineers that are hyper-focused on product development, you don't get any support from them anyway. So, having a product that can be supported by the users themselves is golden.

It's less about functionality today. Although the functionality is there, most systems are pretty competitive on things like financials. At that level, what makes a solution competitive is the architecture, and NetSuite has the most advanced system architecture in the market today. It was built for the cloud. It's a true cloud application. It's truly, purely web-based.

There's no infrastructure required. It's fast licensed, it's multi-tenant for releases.

I would say that the solution is highly configurable.

The solution's data structure is very referential. You can easily customize new data in the system. It's a system that's built for enormous flexibility and customization.

The system itself, the reporting dashboards, integration, API, workflows, all that stuff's strong in NetSuite. The functionality is strong.

They've got people working deeply on it. They spend incredible amounts of money on R&D and their releases are very robust and they just keep moving forward with more.

I became a real fan of NetSuite due to the fact that it's very easy to use and it's very easy to configure from the implementer side. When you're looking for an ERP solution, often it can be very difficult to configure and difficult to use, however, this is very easy. I'm pretty impressed. It sounds like a short or a small solution, and yet it's not.

The whole experience it's very easy. It's very intuitive. It's integrated into everything well so you can navigate and use it in a very simple way. The whole experience for the ERP is very fine. This ERP has no interface. It's completely integrated so you don't have to run any process from accounting to get all the numbers. Everything is detected online instantly.

The initial setup is straightforward.

The user interface is very good. That is extremely important when you're making and implementing change. A good, intuitive user interface and good documentation from a standpoint for training and support is super-important. The accounting functions are pretty basic and this was pretty standard.

While more customization on the cloud would be nice, it forced years of bad practices that were exceptions or custom ways of doing things.

The solution lends itself to scalability.

There's good integration with other products.

It's perfect for a company that is growing, that's still on the border of small to midsize. It fits perfectly from a cost and functionality perspective of them trying to get to standard practices that allows them to grow efficiently. They can take on a new business without adding people.

The top three most valuable features for me are:

  • manufacturing routing
  • inventory management
  • SuiteScript.

The functionality of these three features provides my team and me the ability to customize NetSuite for the craft beverage industry. We leverage the core platform but are able to add additional functionality for ease of use, tailored processes, and industry related reporting.

Some valuable features of this product are P2P and O2C processes, inventory management, fixed asset management, project management, CRM, reports and customization.

If you take any industry, the base line for business is procurement and sales. NetSuite has given the transaction features to post in the GL, i.e., whenever you create a transaction in the backend, the GL posting happens automatically, depending upon the items/accounts that you have defined. Thus, you don't need to be an accounting expert, to know what should get posted or not. For each transaction, a customized approval/printing can be applied, thus making it global and apt for any industry.

Project management is not being used to a great extent, but it really helps many industries to track their budget versus the actual expenses incurred and the revenue.

NetSuite CRM+ and Sales Force Automation tools are almost equivalent to the Salesforce Cloud application that help the industry to gain new customers.

The customization feature gives us the liberty to design/customize NetSuite to any extent. I have worked to develop the NetSuite product structure for Educational ERP. Now, the product NetSuite ERP is SDN certified.

In summary, NetSuite is the future and can help small/medium-sized companies to grow in automation.

The flexibility: In comparison to other products I've used, it is completely scalable. It would be suitable for a few users to hundreds.

If, for example, you want to renumber your chart of accounts, you just renumber it. If a supplier changes its name, you just change it.

It has a fantastic search capability. If you want to find a supplier invoice, you just type the number into the search bar and the results are displayed! If you need a new field for something, you just create it. It's not a three month project to get a new field, but rather just a five minute job! I could literally go on and on.

A huge plus point for me is that you're always on the latest version. You just get upgraded twice a year. This is a huge bonus. I've seen companies that spend hundreds of thousands of pounds upgrading to the new version. With NetSuite, the upgrade is included in the subscription.

As it's a genuine cloud-based product, you don't need servers, server managers, server rooms, backups, etc. It's all there for you. If you need to log in, you just need the internet and your login details. You do not need an IT team to organize access for you.

Role-based workflow and user interface & dashboard were the most impressive features.

Especially for a cloud SaaS ERP system environment, from the perspective of the end user, as they may only be interested in the ERP business domain and functionality, the role-based user interface design and dashboard makes the end user feel that the system is addressing exactly the area they are concerned with. This might generate a presales advantage and end-user decision on purchasing the ERP.

Usually, role-based design provides ease of operation, because the screen is designed to be dedicated for the specific job position (role), so the location and operating procedure on the screen is designed to fit the specific role for operating efficiency.

In this sense, role-based design has more potential for improving the UI than other methods.
