Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) ROI
There is an ROI. With the three-tier architecture, you have to purchase separately for the storage, database, applications, etc. There is a software-layer investment, and then there is a hardware-layer investment. In the software-layer investment, you have to take backups and create a backup infrastructure. You also have to pay for the expertise. You need people for monitoring and taking care of your hardware. You need storage administrators and network administrators. With Nutanix, everything gets consolidated in a single box, and you also save the cost of expertise. There is a good return on investment.

We have witnessed an ROI when using Nutanix. We've seen a total reduced cost of 30%. If you really apply the rules and build your own architecture using their guidelines, you will achieve even more.

We have not witnessed an ROI as of yet. There has been a lot of time savings, however. It's faster and less time-consuming from an administration point of view. We can do things in minutes instead of hours or days.

Nutanix has helped us to reduce the cost of the operations in our company.

Our ROI is very robust. Whatever we are putting in, in terms of CapEx, we are getting back twice in terms of OpEx.
It has reduced our total cost of operations by helping us move more towards automation, as well as through the single-pane dashboard and giving us an integrated solution where we can host multiple types of applications and platforms on a single platform, thereby reducing the complexity, cost, and overall administration. Our savings would be $700,000 to $800,000 yearly.

Our customers see ROI with Nutanix. Using it, they have very efficient infrastructures. They benefit from the reduced footprint, lower power consumption, and easy management. It also gives them efficient data storage with compression, deduplication, and easy snapshot features to reduce the data footprint. All of these things make it worth the licensing costs.

The ROI is definitely there, based on the consolidation. It reduces the workload footprint. That's the benefit. There aren't too many servers or storage. Nutanix becomes an all-in-one and enables us to accommodate more workloads because it has built-in dedupe and compression.

We were running a stand-alone service originally. So we saved a lot of money on hardware upgrades that we needed to do. We saved a lot of money on energy consumption. As you know, power or electricity in South Africa is getting extremely expensive. We are now running at about 20% of our original power consumption and that also includes cooling the server room, reduction on security (physical security not cyber security). So all those components played a major role in ROI. Except for our hardware upgrades and that kind of stuff, we've saved about 200,000 Rand.
View full review »I'm a telecom, so I don't see a direct ROI on the IT. I use Nutanix to run a product that brings me money, so the return on investment takes a few months. For example, I have to buy a server (VMware), pay out, I run some virtual machines to run the product, and from that income I calculate ROI. It's not regular IT, so you can't compare it with other scenarios.

The ROI is very good. We'll see an ROI in two-three years only.
View full review »We do not estimate numbers for administration, rack powerage, and such. We use IT to do our business, not vice versa. You get nowhere if you want to measure the street instead of driving on it. But I was quite firm with netapp and the blades and had no huge admin effort. The timely effort for nutanix is even less now.

Return on investment happens when the customer realizes relative value. For example, if the customer is comparing cloud computing to an on-premise server, on-premise Nutanix is always going to be more expensive compared to AWS or Azure if you use it in a typical way. You have to consider the hours that the technicians spend maintaining the solution. Also, if the technicians are spending less time, they could start doing things that create more value for the company.
It's not easy to see a return on investment for this kind of solution, but you need to solve this problem at a higher level of management because the IT department is not involved in innovation at the company, so they might feel the solution is doing the job for them.
Also, they might have a personal stake in keeping the solution because they could see a risk to their livelihood if the company decides to switch to the cloud. It's something to sell to the upper management because even the CIO might not see it because they think their position is at risk. These solutions are like a robot that makes everything by themselves. The return on investment is a reduction in the time spent managing the infrastructure, and you could start seeing that time savings in six months to a year.

We haven't measured our ROI for the moment, but the fact that everything is in the same solution will make life easier for our IT team. We won't have to call the storage specialist or the network specialist every time we have a problem. Everything is packaged in the same solution, and to update the platform is very easy. This will be our first ROI.
There are a lot of problems that occur. One example is when we update the firmware for a product, it can make life difficult for us. If we have a new disk that is not compatible with the storage then updating the firmware causes other things to malfunction. That is quite difficult for all of us. Overall, I think that we will be reducing the time in maintenance as compared to other platforms.
