View full review »OpenVPN is generally scalable, but in certain regions like China, where deep packet inspection is widespread, there are certain challenges. The scalability holds up well, but consideration is needed for environments with stringent stateful inspection, especially in cases like China. Overall, I would rate the scalability of the solution as an eight out of ten.

Scalability, as far as I can tell thus far, is limited to the hardware capabilities of your Linux router or host from which you intend to run OpenVPN.

View full review »I give the scalability a six out of ten. The scalability of the solution relies on the operating system being used by the clients. It is easier to scale for clients who are using Windows, while it can be a bit more challenging for clients using Linux.

We had some scalability issues at first but it was our own lack of understanding. We had created just the limited set of clients, before we expanded on that to maximize it to 1000-plus clients on one subnet. That was all our own research and fixing that.

Horizontally, this solution is definitely not scalable. Vertically, it is possible but there will be some downtime. Scaling requires that we stop the server, upscale it, select a different instance, and then restart it. The downtime is approximately five minutes.
