Oracle Data Guard Stability

The product has been pretty stable. Because we can't afford to have technical issues with production databases. In 20 years of my Oracle DBA experience, I have not encountered any big technical issues that have impacted production.

We faced challenges in migrating to major versions, especially with respect to changing execution plans. That is a one-down thing about Oracle. The execution plan is to host a multi-tenant architecture. Use the same application code, but SQL will be the same, and the data size will vary.

So, at that time, we had the concept of our execution plan in Oracle. So that sometimes gives you a problem. So whenever we do a major upgrade, we have some challenges. It is the risk here. We need to do a lot of testing before moving to the new version. So, we became a bit reluctant to readily upgrade.

I would rate the stability capabilities five out of ten. It's not about the system; rather, they are leaning towards adopting a cloud solution.

If one is most stable, I'd rate it a two out of five. We were facing some issues. It isn't something that you set up and then go to sleep for two years. We have to maintain it and tweak it several times, but it is still very good in terms of stability.

Oracle Data Guard is stable, but you need to keep monitoring the system all the time. You need to keep monitoring the archives. If some of the archives have been deleted, you need to do it manually. It is a lot of work pressure and a lot of monitoring.

You need to do the dummy work every day just to ensure that Oracle Data Guard is working at the point when you need it.

There is no issue with primary database stability. Once Data Guard is configured, you don't have to change anything more in your primary database.

The solution has been stable so far. I would like to know what the performance impact will be when we go to the really big database of a customer. Because you have to synchronize everything to that effective location, with no data loss extracted, which means you have to go for a really hot interface. So you have to look at the experience for big databases. But so far there have been no problems with big databases.

The solution is really very stable. One good thing about it, compared to other products, is that you can just run it and forget about it. Unless you come across some interruptions in the network, it works like a charm.

We didn't have any incidents that caused any major problems with this implementation. There aren't any concerns regarding the stability of this solution.

Once implemented, we can administer the whole environment with no downtime. We can switch over between sites and keep on using Oracle Data Guard like this. Until now, there aren't many things to do. It has been very good. That's why we keep on using this solution.

The stability is quite stable and it's reliable. From time to time I have had some issues, where I get an error message saying that both databases stopped synchronizing for a while. It doesn't mean that the problem comes from Data Guard. The problem could come from other areas like the network, a slow network for example.

Oracle Data Guard is quite stable but you do need to check on it every day to ensure functionality. You have to define some of the operating system stabilities yourself and you need to be sure to deal with any problem in your operating system because good functionality really depends on the operating system.
