The product’s troubleshooting capabilities and visibility justifies the investment.

The typical acquisition and year-to-year support maintenance costs equate roughly to a person-year of a typical DBA. You can expect that given the ability of the existing staff to either become more precise and strategic at preventing issues from arising without adding additional staff, makes this an easy pitch. e.g. You could either add 3 additional dedicated DBA's whose job is to login and monitor every application in a typical 4-5 major application environment (EBS, HR, BI, Webapps, Mobile, SOA, etc.) 24x7, or you can install OEM and configure it to provide the requisite alerts and projection reports needed to ensure the same SLA requirements, without adding staff.

If over six hundred errors are related to the database, it can lead to a crash, resulting in significant losses for any business. Using a monitoring tool helps prevent such disasters. For instance, if a high CPU consumption query is identified through the monitoring tool, it becomes a proactive way to address potential crashes. By identifying and working on problematic queries, you can notify users to terminate sessions, avoiding downtime and potential business impacts. This monitoring tool proves to be incredibly helpful for managing and overseeing applications and data.

This solution was the only one which allows us to monitor all our solutions from one interface. However, the optional packs are expensive, hence your mileage may vary. Please take advice before choosing what exactly to purchase. Remember that the base configuration is free to monitor any Oracle product.

The return on investment is good.

We haven't evaluated ROI per se. However, the low downtime and great user experience have made it a positive investment. 

It reduced the number of incidents; we could predict failures.

I think it provides value for the money. It definitely helps us be proactive in our database administrating. We don't have to spend time reacting to everything. We can find out where the problem is before our customer even realizes they have a problem.

Don't underestimate the time you invest in deploying and managing Oracle within your wider IT estate. The Lifecycle Management Pack needs to be seen as an essential purchase with Diagnostics and Tuning Packs. You may be able to create some 'home brew' solutions for software deployment, compliance and configuration management, but it will be light years behind what the LCMP can do and it's something that will continually be developed and improved.
