We have realized a lot of tangible and intangible benefits from the machine. It would be difficult to put a dollar figure to it because the machine allows for things that simply cannot be done without it. So in that way, we can safely say that the machine paid for itself within the first 12 months.

There's ROI from Oracle Exadata. My company saves one hundred percent using Oracle Exadata versus Oracle database licensed on different hardware.

It also depends on what you compare. My company uses Oracle solutions, so the Oracle database has many advantages for my company. For example, the company has a no-code generator software that uses the Oracle database, so the Oracle database is an essential part of the environment.

Comparing Oracle Exadata against non-Exadata, using Oracle Exadata is wiser for my company because it's cheaper to have Oracle Exadata than not because the company has to buy additional licenses and courses, which would be more expensive.

Exadata's database consolidation can save a lot of money. For example, one current customer was spending close to $800,000 on database licensing, but they are looking at $250,000 after consolidation.

If I walk into the office of any customer and I want to sell my Exadata, I tell the finance officer, "Boss, I plan to bring down your license costs by half." That's what I'll tell them. "If you want to see the magic, that's what I plan to do for you."

It is not really clear how to calculate the ROI for Exadata. Because you need to do the calculations for yourself, you need to know the license modeling pretty well. Even then, it is not very clear how much it costs for Exadata performance, CPU, and other additions. You really can not calculate these points when Exadata pays for you. Oracle could help customers to find out the actual numbers and help with calculations for ROI.

It varies from client to client depending on several factors but it is almost always when the cut-even period is approx. 12-18 months after the initial investment. The TCO of OES is much lower than similar systems like VCE’s Vblock, HP’s Converged system, and IBM’s PureFlex system, Teradata, etc.

The TCO of the Exadata Cloud Service is even better than the one of on-premise!
