My advice would be to explore other possible solutions before locking into this one. GoldenGate does what it says it's going to do so I rate it eight out of 10.

Make sure it's the right tool for the job you need to do. In-cloud migrations, particularly database migrations, account for about 12% of an overall cloud migration project. Within that 12%, probably 90% of those non-production and low data footprint databases could be handled by tools like AWS Database Migration Service. However, when you can't take the system down for very long, or you've got lots of databases, it can take a long time to migrate them unless you use a tool like GoldenGate. However, using GoldenGate requires extensive skills for management and configuration.

Oracle GoldenGate instantly replicates data changes from primary databases to secondary ones, ensuring real-time updates across systems. Its monitoring features detect issues promptly, minimizing downtime. Overall, GoldenGate provides reliable real-time data integration, enhancing business processes efficiently.

In one organization, we employed Oracle GoldenGate for data replication. We opted for a three-way setup to integrate data between source and target databases without directly impacting either side. Placing an intermediary server between the source and target, we configured GoldenGate parameters. This allowed data to flow from the source to the intermediary server and then to the target, meeting our specific requirements. Depending on cost considerations, we sometimes chose a simpler two-way replication directly from source to target.

The conflict detection and resolution feature of Oracle GoldenGate ensures that data replication tasks are executed seamlessly without any conflicts. This results in a flawless data replication process for customers, leading to a positive experience without any complaints or issues related to data consistency or integrity.

I would recommend considering Oracle GoldenGate for real-time data replication, especially if cost is a factor compared to DataGuard. Additionally, GoldenGate is easier to manage with the right technical expertise. Training the team on managing it can streamline operations and provide business advantages.

Overall, I would rate Oracle GoldenGate as a ten out of ten.

Exploring other more compatible databases could be an alternative. If a versatile solution is sought with many sources, including various databases and servers, there may be better choices than starting with Oracle GoldenGate. However, opinions on this matter may vary, and I might be mistaken in certain cases.

Oracle GoldenGate is a good product. There are some problems with the product, but you need to test some situations and include all the details in your tests before putting it in production to prevent the product or services from being stopped without any reason. Users should also ensure that the monitoring part is increased with some scripts.

I rate the overall product an eight out of ten.

My company is using Oracle GoldenGate.

In the company, Oracle GoldenGate is used in two environments. One is for data replication, and the other is for reporting purposes. In general, a total of fifty people use the solution.

My rating for Oracle GoldenGate is a six out of ten, mainly because of the price factor.

I strongly recommend Oracle GoldenGate to anyone who has servers and needs to do reporting. It's a solution that has no issues for the purposes I mentioned.

I'm a user of Oracle GoldenGate, not a partner.

I would rate Oracle GoldenGate nine out of ten. The only drawback is its inability to merge multiple Oracle databases into one.

For an organization using Oracle products, GoldenGate is the most reliable tool for migration or application use cases involving source or target Oracle databases. However, if they do not have Oracle databases on either end, there might be other options available that could be cheaper or more flexible, as I am not very familiar with GoldenGate agents on other platforms. I do not possess sufficient statistics or information about GoldenGate agents in such scenarios.

While I can confidently say that GoldenGate works effectively with Oracle projects, I am unsure about its performance with other platforms. There are certainly some capabilities, and we can consider relying on them or keeping them in mind. However, I am hesitant to recommend GoldenGate for data replication from non-Oracle platforms to other platforms.

My opinion of GoldenGate is that it is an improvement over earlier Oracle products. I think that the interface for GoldenGate is very user-friendly. I recommend that people support the use of Oracle GoldenGate and have made this opinion known to colleagues in Egypt who are responsible for team projects.

On a scale from one to ten — one being the worst and ten being the best — I would grade  Oracle GoldenGate as a nine right now. After one or two more months working with the product, maybe the nine would be ten. It could be ten right now because I haven't faced any problems. This tool and Oracle's reputation speak for themselves. I don't need to complicate the issues by involving and a big problem I had in the past. But if I need a real reason why it should not be a ten and a nine is justified, I need Oracle to improve its support in Egypt. This is a genuine issue that is ongoing.

We needed to exploit the real-time data analytics since data ingestion and integration were happening through the SaaS platform.

Oracle has a problem with pricing, and if they reduced the cost of their products, it would make a lot of sense. Today, many freely available tools to ingest data cover all three types: structured, unstructured, and semi-structured.

In a business like manufacturing, with data integration for large multinational companies, Oracle GoldenGate gains an edge over other solutions. Similarly, with telecommunications, for example, a multinational company like Vodafone, you would need GoldenGate to extract data. Data lineage helps control those things. Likewise, security is a concern. Smaller and lower-middle companies could not afford GoldenGate, however.

I rate GoldenGate an eight out of ten. However, different people, such as your CSO and CIO, will have different views. Your CFO, for example, might think the solution is too expensive.

It works great as a text-based application. There are a lot of hooplas you have to run through for more of a GUI support. It requires a high level of knowledge to get started.

I would definitely recommend starting out with very simple extracts, pumps, and replicates to get the environment working and then jump in with specific tables that you need.

I would rate Oracle GoldenGate a six out of ten.

I concentrate on Oracle products, and I'm currently working with Oracle GoldenGate.

My company provides Oracle GoldenGate for customers, so my team has been working with a lot of versions of the solution, starting from version 12 up to version 19.

My company works on consulting projects, and can also sell licenses, but if the customer has a license and requires some solutions, the team can provide complete services, starting from designing architecture, upgrading, ensuring there's minimal downtime, etc.

At the moment, my company has seven clients using Oracle GoldenGate.

My advice to others who want to start using Oracle GoldenGate is that it may not be as easy at the beginning, but it's a good product.

My current rating for Oracle GoldenGate is nine out of ten, but if I'm able to evaluate other solutions, that rating could change to a lower or higher rating.

Oracle GoldenGate is installed and maintained easily. If you have a maintenance issue, Oracle's support team will handle it. Maintaining the solution is easy.

Users need to check if GoldenGate supports the source system, and they should do a POC for it. The technical guys should see the different types of mechanisms, like directly from data, log shipping, journal, etc. They should also see the latency. I know users will like the product if they do a POC phase.

Overall, I rate Oracle GoldenGate an eight out of ten.

CF

We're currently in the middle of a huge project using Oracle GoldenGate. We have a unique business case in the world - synchronizing 3000 OLTP databases to an Exadata. Normally Oracle GoldenGate use cases are for 10 or 50 maximum data sources.

We are using OGG version 19 in the OGG Hubs (Replicators). In the source, we are using OGG version 13 microservices (Extractors).

We have a hybrid OGG architecture: the data source is on-premise and the hubs and the Exadata are in the OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure). We have on-premise extractors and replicators in the cloud. the connection is made through FastConnect.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. There are several features that have some real limitations for us. The product itself is not simple to manage and we take almost 6 months to learn the basics. There's also harsh memory consumption. Each connection is consuming almost 200 megabytes of memory, and, with the 3000 databases, that's a lot of resources to manage.

We're a reseller. We help our clients implement the solution.

I'm not sure which version of the solution I'm using or if it's the most current.

GoldenGate, right now, is a really fantastic solution. The price is high, but it's worth the cost, in my opinion.

It works with heterogeneous environments like Oracle, or IBM digital. We host it in servers and we host it in databases. A lot of the times we also host it in MySQL or on the MySQL database.

The solution uses a very low latency bandwidth because GoldenGate actually transfers the data. It will not take up a lot of resources like CPU or memory.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.
