Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls Implementation Team
I have done all of it by myself, except for the very first installation of the firewall that was done in conjunction with a reseller. That was before my time.
There are two of us on the firewall team. There are another three or four guys from the networking side team who also help out.
View full review »I did the deployment. I was using it while I was at Palo Alto. I am still managing them, even outside of Palo Alto. It has been a consistent experience.

I'm able to do everything by myself, but I have some problems with functionality every now and then. For example, I recently had a problem with the side-to-side VPN, but the configuration was okay. In the end, I found it was a problem with the internet connection, not the VPN. Initially, our internet provider told us that everything was okay on our networks.

For the VMCD ones, we had to get help from their pre-sales support team, but for the on-prem physical appliances, we did the implementation ourselves.

We use Secureworks, which is a big security company. They actually send an alert when there are problems with the firewall or if there are security issues. They handled the deployment.
We also use another company called Logically to monitor the firewall in addition to all our other devices.
View full review »It required three network administrators. They are responsible for actively managing the firewall configurations, taking backups, etc.

CyberSecurity Network Engineer at a university with 5,001-10,000 employees
When we first implemented Palo Alto, we hired a consultant, ProSys, to assist us. They know our network. They've been with us for years and they've got some Palo Alto experts. The reason we asked for their help is that we didn't know anything about Palo Alto until after we took the courses.
One of the problems at the university, in general, is that we don't do a lot of these processes every day. This makes it hard for most universities to be able to do a lot of these more complex setups on their own without getting outside help. The people who are in big businesses that deploy these things on a daily basis get to see this stuff all the time. Universities don't, so we normally have to rely on outside help.
Overall, our experience with ProSys was good. We like working with them.

Chief Architect at a recruiting/HR firm with 1,001-5,000 employees
We used Palo Alto directly for the deployment. Our experience with them was great.
To deploy it, we didn't employ any more staff. We did send a few people out remotely. With COVID, travel is a little bit tricky. So, we have some remote agreements with some suppliers who will go out for a day, plug a device in, and help us with the initial out-of-the-box config. That is normally two to three hours per site that we have to do, which is what I would expect from this kind of device.

In the beginning, we used Palo Alto, but after that, we did everything in-house. The support from Palo Alto was fine. Their support person helped us. We are in Mexico, and he helped in translating the support information from English to Spanish in the beginning. We had a few big issues, but in the end, we solved all of them. Now, I can operate these firewalls.

View full review »We implemented this using one member of our in-house team, and the deployment took three days to complete.
However, there was some pre-implementation work to be done registering firewall serial numbers, connecting console cables etc, but this is all straightforward.
The policies we have with Atelier and WatchGuard were exported, and we tried to deploy these policies on the new firewall. The reseller helped us configure it but without our concession or permission and could not deploy the firewall. We later had more problems, and the reseller helped us with that as well.
Video Import Solutions is our local reseller in Pune, India. In our experience, not every engineer knew the firewall concept. I mean, not at all. If we wanted something new or had to deal with this application-related issue, they always told us they would log a case and resolve it. But they did not support us at all and did not give us any reason why they could not do it.

We had a lot of support from their local partner So it was very straightforward at the time.
I didn't come across any significant issues, but as engineers, we are always prepared to face challenges.
Nowadays, nothing works as simple as plug-and-play like it used to be. However, we try to reduce the likelihood of issues as much as possible by working closely with project managers and performing thorough preparations beforehand.
Before doing the implementation. It was okay.

For our implementation strategy, we talk to our customers and work out documents for all their configs, which includes basic information that we need to know for implementing the firewall. Then, we follow the documents and do the implementation. We also may modify some content of the documents as the project processes.
It needs one or two employees with enough skills to manage and maintain it. They may need to modify firewalls, firewalls security rules, and possibly inspect alerts that are generated from firewalls.

Deployment time depends on your requirements. If you talk about the system requirements, it hardly takes up to 15 or 20 minutes for the configuration.
That said, it totally depends on your requirements: What kind of policy you require that supports what kind of block, etc.
The deployment time would change based on these requirements, but the system configuration: accessing the internet and creating policies hardly takes 20 minutes.
Deployment is configured by administrators, so if we have any kind of issue in policies or any confusion, we get tech support.
