Prisma Cloud by Palo Alto Networks Stability

I have never encountered any challenges regarding any modules. Occasionally, they do undergo planned maintenance outages, but those are well-communicated in advance. Therefore, I don't consider them to be challenging. Prisma Cloud is reliable, and I would rate its stability at nine out of ten.

I never faced any challenges because of internal hardware issues or the agent. Because I've always worked on the cloud-managed version, we have never faced any problems with the functionality. We did have a couple of hangups with the user and administrator onboarding and privileges, but I don't think that affects the functionality of the overall product.

The stability of Prisma Cloud depends on how the infrastructure has been configured specifically for that tool, taking into account the load and architecture of our infrastructure. The tool responds well in small-scale infrastructures, functioning perfectly without any issues. However, in larger environments, I have not encountered any crashing or lagging problems but the time it takes to scan the infrastructure varies depending on its size.

Prisma Cloud has excellent stability. From a product perspective, they strive to stay ahead of the curve regarding vulnerabilities and other issues. I receive regular email updates, approximately four times a week, informing me of any discovered vulnerabilities. Additionally, they provide articles on new releases or micro releases for patching these vulnerabilities.

Prisma's stability is close to 100 percent because it's just a dashboard that connects to your public cloud. It's essentially a website that never goes down, and you could also host it locally if your security requires it. Most of the customers use the Prisma Cloud platform. If it goes down for any reason, the security agents work independently of Prisma Cloud. You send logs to Prisma Cloud and update the configurations via the cloud. However, if the platform goes offline, you still have top-notch security.

I'm using the SaaS version which is running on Palo Alto's infrastructure, so I've never encountered instability.

There is some patching behind Prisma Cloud when Palo Alto delivers new features so there are some "patch intervals," but most of the time, Palo Alto does notify you when something like that is coming up. It will say, "Hi. This Friday, the application will be unavailable from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM." But it is not very disturbing at all.

We have not had many issues with the solution's stability, and whatever challenges we have had have been in the public cloud. But with the solution itself there has only been one issue we got stuck on and that was NAT-ing. It was resolved later. We ran into some issues with our design because public internet access was an issue, and that took us some time. But it was only the NAT-ing part where we got stuck. The rest has all been smooth.

In general, the stability is very good. As a SaaS tool, we have high expectations for how it performs, and we did have some growing pains in that regard around the console upgrade in October.

The work that we have ongoing maintenance-wise is from a policy perspective. We have custom policies that we deploy above and beyond the CIS Benchmark policies deployed with the tool. As we deploy new services, start to use new tools, and as the cloud vendors roll out new services, there is policy work which goes along with that. However, the bulk of the work is still in meeting with business units who are responsible for deploying these applications and keeping them on track with their remediation activities.

In terms of performance, they have cloud releases of security features during the first week of every month. Whenever they release new policies, all of a sudden it starts to throw multiple alerts within our console. It is a bit annoying for the DevOps team, but from a security perspective, it is a useful process. But a pre-announcement or pre-testing of the alerts would be a better way for them to do this, instead of creating 50 or 100-plus alerts for our DevOps. We are suggesting better pre-testing of new policies.

Prisma Cloud is quite stable. At times, it goes down, but that's very rare. We have some tickets with them, but when we see some issues, they sort it out in no time. We do not have a lot of unplanned downtime. It happens rarely. So I think in the last year, we haven't seen anything like that.

Prisma Cloud by Palo Alto Networks has mostly been stable. However, there were some instances when it was not as stable, particularly the Defender setup, where it did not work for three days, so my team had to escalate, and then it suddenly worked. The issues usually happen during implementation, but you will not have as many challenges after it is implemented.

Stability-wise, the solution is a six out of ten for me.

We really have had very few issues with the stability. It's been up, it's been working. We've had, maybe, two or three very minor interruptions of the service and our ability to log in to it. In each case there was a half an hour or an hour, at most, during which we were unable to get into it, and then it was resolved. There was usually information on it in the support portal including the reason for it and the expectation around when they would get it back up.

It's pretty much stable, as much as containers are stable. It is more about the container solution itself, or how Kubernetes is managed and the state of health of the containers. As Prisma is a container solution itself, it was as good as the Kubernetes environment could make it.

I don't know about the Prisma Cloud SaaS solution because we didn't use it, but the on-prem solution was as reliable as our Kubernetes system was. It was really reliable.
