What is most valuable?

In the previous version, some features were not enabled. For example, you could not access the VPN. So that was one of the downsides of the product. In this latest version, after enabling these features in the previous version and using them, it's been good. Inspection, application, and inspection… more»

What needs improvement?

The file trajectory could be improved. We still have a web proxy but I think at some point we should not have two products. We should have only one product. Most of the features of the web proxy already exist in the UTM appliances. We have a debate as to whether it's the Cisco Firepower and UTM… more»

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

I started with Juniper and the Palo Alto UTM Appliances, and many other vendors. But we do have a policy to use multiple vendors.

What other advice do I have?

The solution is extensively used. We have a policy, from a permission security perspective, that you need to have diversity in the vendors and diversity in the products. We have some areas which are using these products and other areas which is using different products. It's a really good product… more»

What is most valuable?

The ability to centrally manage all the IPS sensors, track the different security events generated by it, and customize the different policies, depending on their… more»

How has it helped my organization?

We feel safer now. We are currently enhancing all of our network security. The IPS has proven that it can find events and items, which previously went under the radar. We… more»

What needs improvement?

I would like the ability to apply more filters or better customize reports in order to display information in a readable way. That would be nice.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I did not handle the purchasing, but I believe it cost $15,000. There is an additional support fee, but I don't know how much it is.

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

This is our first IPS technology that we deployed in our EDGE network. We are users of other McAfee tools. We wanted everything to be able to talk to each other. We want… more»

What other advice do I have?

This product is helping us grow, as we have a newly created security operations team.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also looked at Cisco and Palo Alto. The centrally managed solution allows for control of the tool and policies in a more straightforward manner. I would imagine other… more»

What is most valuable?

It's user-friendly for engineers and works well for configuration and debugging. The solution can be integrated with some network electors like Cisco Stealthwatch, Cisco ISE, and Active Directory to provide the client with authentication certificates.

How has it helped my organization?

This solution has improved our security level for our organization. It's a more intellectual system with many features that can help us with decryption. At this time, we have more than eighty-six percent of the traffic is SSL. We must decrypt this, and these devices provide us with tools for… more»

What needs improvement?

This is a good solution, but some others may have some advantages. For example, Palo Alto has more useful and suitable application abilities. This solution has a better Firepower but the functionalities are not as good. With the next release, I would like to see some PBR, so that you can do the… more»

What other advice do I have?

Providing videos and materials are useful, but really what you need is the experience in analyzing logs. Without that, you wouldn't be able to problem-solve on your own, even with the assistance of videos. I would recommend this solution. It's reliable and scalable, with easy installation and… more»

What needs improvement?

It's not so easy to set up a test environment because it's not so easy to get the test license. The vendor only gives you 90 days for a test license; it's a tough license to get.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is a bit higher than the competition, but it's okay. The cost seems cheaper than Cisco's Firepower.

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

We do have other solutions that we run in parallel, but it isn't like we had one solution and then we switched to Palo Alto.

What other advice do I have?

We use the on-premises deployment model. The solution is very good, especially compared to other solutions. I would rate it nine out of ten. It also offers re-instruction detection and prevention software, which we also use in conjunction with the Threat Prevention solution.
