Postgres' stability is wholly dependent on the skill and knowledge of the administrator who deployed it. Postgres is rock solid when deployed according to best practices as documented by the PostgreSQL community. When it's installed correctly, PostgreSQL is an enterprise-grade solution. It's reliable but requires more familiarity than you would necessarily need with a database like Oracle or Microsoft SQL out of the box.

View full review »The product is stable only for working on relatively small data. It's not ideal for large amounts of data. Our business has grown rapidly. We have more customers and our data has grown very rapidly. We need to manage performance and tuning and may need a grander product. The performance could be better.

View full review »I have never had a problem that was directly caused by PostgreSQL itself. Usually what happens is that a lot of databases are mistreated in the sense that they are misconfigured, or not designed properly, and then blamed for the issues that are happening as a consequence. Apart from some minor bugs that have recently been fixed, I have never had such an issue.

The solution is not as stable in comparison to Microsoft SQL Server. I had some issues with a version, and I had to re-install it last year. Now, however, it's working fine. That said, they are always launching new updates and they seem to release them too early as they are not so stable.

I had an issue where we couldn't find the fault, and it happened on occasion at the end of the day. Some of my basic queries would stop running.
I had some queries run for two days and some run for a day, then I would have to try it again the next day and it would complete in 20 seconds. Sometimes, it seemed to catch itself.
