QlikView Room for Improvement
Many of the features in Qlik Sense need to be available and reintroduced in QlikView. I believe many of the features have been added to QlikView after the layout containers were introduced. QlikView used to be a way more customizable tool than Qlik Sense is in the present time.
Improvements are required in the hide and unhide functionality that falls under the layout container feature that has been used in my company in recent times. Hiding off the apps in the app overview tab based on the access was a really good feature that needs to be introduced back in the product since I see that, at the moment, there are multiple groups on the tool, owing to which multiple changes on the QMC part is required to handle the solution.
Only the person with access to the dashboard in QlikView could have a link to the dashboard through QlikView's hub or access points. With Qlik Sense, one can see whatever is available in the stream. If a user wants to control everything in the product, then there is no need to make multiple changes in the QMC at the individual app level. The aforementioned area can be considered to improve Qlik Sense.
It is really old. We are moving towards converting everything into a Power BI environment. We want to have a self-service type of BI environment where different levels of users in organizations can log onto a portal and retrieve the data they need or get the necessary insights for decision-making that's important for them or their business unit. They have built a new version of QlikView called QlikSense, which probably competes with newer BI tools, such as Power BI, but they are far behind. That's why we are moving towards a newer tool that's easier to use and has more visualizations to represent the data. QlikView is very old, and there are more modern tools that work.
It is expensive. Its licensing can be improved because the tool is old. If they still want people to use it a lot, they should substitute it for a newer, better BI tool. The price should change for what you get. They can have a cloud version for it, but I guess they have created QlikSense to have a cloud version or platform available so that people basically go from QlikView to QlikSense.
There is a learning curve. It is not for first-time users working with data. It has got its own little syntax to create usable datasets, codes, schedules, etc. So, there is quite a learning curve to learn the syntax to use the tool, but if you build expertise in it, it is nice to use.

There are a couple of things right now to consider since QlikView is going to be out of the market. Instead, Qlik Sense will be the new platform. Right now, QlikView is switching up. So there are some enhancements in Qlik Sense required.
Though the initial setup phase is simple, when it comes to the integration with the custom systems, the configuration and the compatibility sometimes take some more time. The aforementioned area can be considered as room for improvement.
Many types of analysis based on financial or management and accounting concepts require writing expressions. This particular feature could be included in QlikView.
They could provide a user-friendly analysis process rather than specialized IT resource code. Any HR, finance, or supply chain department executive could develop an analysis on the platform.
View full review »Enhancing user-friendliness would be highly beneficial. It could become even more remarkable if it were available in the cloud, retaining the core functionality of its engine and offering the same seamless user experience. There could be enhancements to the Qlik Management Console. Specifically, the user interface and user experience could be refined to better manage execution sequences. Currently, there might be overlaps between executions and deployments without clear alerts or notifications. This lack of alerts could lead to issues like concurrent job executions causing system downtime or memory constraints. Improving the sequencing of deployments and incorporating smart notifications would significantly enhance the overall process.
View full review »In terms of improvement, I would like to see more advanced features from Qlik Sense integrated into QlikView to keep it competitive and up-to-date.
View full review »They should offer the capability to directly access data from SaaS environments, as it would simplify the migration process, and while it may seem like a minor enhancement, it would be beneficial to our clients. Some clients have requested a hybrid environment where both QlikView and Qlik Sense can work together effectively during the initial stages of migration, so that would be a good feature to add.
View full review »While QlikView is a powerful tool, there are areas where it could be improved. There is a lack of static PDF report generation and automatic resizing of the dashboard to fit the device, for example.
Also, scripting can be a bit difficult if you don't have the necessary knowledge, so this app may not be suitable for everyone.
I'm not like a lot of people who are into AI, especially when it comes to making queries. I don't really remember if QlikView has this feature, the one where you write up a question about the data in human language, and they just bring up a quick analysis from it.
I'm not sure if this feature exists. But if it doesn't, it should be something they consider adding. I believe assisting users with quick building using natural language queries is not as simple as just making a regular query.
I like the idea of using human language queries. That would be a plus, really.
QlikView should improve the integration with scripting. It has its own scripting language for building the underlying data layer. Sometimes, dealing with complex reports requires more effort, and that could be really improved.

QlikView's UI could be more user-friendly. At present, I encounter difficulties while writing complex queries on the UI. It doesn't support the query button as well.

View full review »While it used to be extremely easy to work with for me, at least the basics, some other folks used to have a bit more trouble using it. I think that it might be useful if the first-time user wizard was a bit better. It might help people get the “Eureka “ moment on their own. I always felt that the wizard was not really worth using, and I started people off with making their own import scripts with my help. Others also seemed to believe that as well.
I think the wizard could take a bit more time and provide training along the way. For example, show the data to be imported, and go over some of the best practices. And maybe continue on with going over the Edit Script and hit some of the basics there as well and so on.
I think all things are covered in the tutorial, but I had very little success having people use the tutorials.
Some aspects are so common, and used so much:
- Basic import of data, load, review the field names that come in, set your fields as “what you want”
- Import a different table, review as in step 1, but check for synthetic links, do your “AS” statements to clean up, and get the linkages you want, etc.
- Then have some wizard to make tables and charts in the same way, etc.
I do these things with new users inside of a couple of hours, including usually helping tham make their first solution.

No out of the box mapping capabilities (Extensions/Plugins available).
No auto-scale for different display resolutions/dimensions, but the trade-off here is the much greater design flexibility than one gets with a Grid based product.

Very rudimentary report creation and PDF capabilities No scheduling or distribution without Publisher product.
View full review »There is room for improvement in terms of scalability. Because it depends on the use case and customer requirements.
If QlikView can't handle the scale, I usually look to the data lake or data warehouse for solutions. My experience is that for self-service BI, users often request low code tools, which wouldn't be suitable for the QlikView front-end due to performance limitations.

QlikView certainly lacks in its ability to share visualizations or create visualizations easily. QlikView is a powerful tool but has shortcomings when compared to the visualization capability provided by Qlik Sense or Power BI.
From my perspective, I understand that since QlikView is an older product, it can be simply left as it is, and users can move to Qlik Sense, which provides a much stronger visualization.
If QlikView decides that its visualization part should be just like Qlik Sense or Power BI, then I would say it would be too much to capture in one or two phrases, considering that it is overall much easier to create visually good-looking dashboards and also something like a geographical map which is not possible in to get in QlikView currently.

This solution would be improved with the inclusion of a feature that would allow us to add a common library of (our) commands used in load scripts and expressions, so with a keyword, we would get a drop down to select the command we are looking for, as opposed to the generic help. I keep them all in OneNote now and copy and paste them in, then change the field names. This addition would really save time.
examples:
Convert date-time stamp to just a normal date in the Load script - so we can match to the company calendar for Model Year / month etc , Fiscal Year /month / week of year/ week in year
date(floor(DTTMSTAMP),'MM/DD/YYYY') as TransactionDate,
Storing QVD's: (this is the path needed from a Data Loader)
STORE SummarySalesAggregate INTO [..\QVDData\SummarySalesUnitsAndDollars.qvd];
Sorted and Count for creating Arrays:
SortedAndCounted:
Left join (SummarizeSales2)
LOAD
Option_Inv,
Line_No,
if(peek('Option_Inv',-1)<> Option_Inv,1, Peek('counter',-1)+1) as counter
Resident SummarizeSales2
Order by Option_Inv asc, Line_No asc;

Qlikview is extremely good with descriptive analitycs. Sometimes the filters are disappearing, and I'm not sure why this is happening. It might be when it's refreshing or updating. I'm not sure. For example, maybe when I'm doing a report and it's refreshing, I can see that all my filters are gone and I need to start again from the beginning. This is the main issue for me.

The only thing I would improve about it is the fact that it refreshes all the time, and when it does that, it just deletes all the options you had, all the filters that you had selected, so you need to select them from the beginning. If it could refresh without it taking away all your filters, it would be amazing. It doesn't take a long time to refresh. It's every 20 minutes or so. Still, if it kept your options where you wanted them, it would have been much better.

They could improve the update time. Sometimes it takes longer to update, so we see numbers of maybe half an hour ago or one hour ago. If it could be updated faster. That would be something that would help us a lot.
By comparing with the latest data discovery tools like Tableau, Qlik Sense and Sisense, the layout and colors are not eye catching enough. It looks like a very powerful excel with a lot of powerful features for analysis. But it may not be good for presentation.

Our business model relies on the business to build their own reports and many departments did not have the associates they need with this type of skill set (i.e. SQL experience). In a business model where a centralized department (i.e. IT) is in control of the reports for the entire company, this would not be a problem.
The development was the ultimate reason this application did not take off in my organization vs. a competitor's application (Tableau). This is a shame as the finished dashboard appeared to be more polished.

View full review »It is well know that the ETL is quite far away from leading products like Data Stagem Informatica and others. Currently Qliktech is working on this problem with Expressor, a powerful graphic dataflow tool. Another area is the licensing scheme, which leaves out many SMO. To remedy this and try to stop the eruption of third parties (e.g: Tableau), QlikTech launched Qlik Sense, although the future is unclear and there may be a possible merge of the two branches (Qlik Sense + QlikView). Finally QlikTech, since release 10/11, leaves the development of new graphic charts to the community with mixed results.
View full review »There definitely needs to be an update in the number of chart types available and the options within each chart. There are various charts that could use more customizable options, as well as certain charts that are missing such as waterfall charts, histograms, etc.
One glaring omission is the lack of mapping technology in QlikView. Although they do offer solutions through third-party add-ons, other similar providers have this as a default feature in the app. I think currently, mapping technology should be standard with these applications given the competition and the capabilities it brings. It seems that because of their third-party developer relationships, they are holding back on adding features to the application, which would put those developers out of business.
The licensing scheme leaves a lot of room for improvement. I believe it is cumbersome and expensive to maintain. In order for a user to view a published application, they need to have a viewer license (approx. $350 the last I remember). However, if they need to view multiple applications, they need a viewer license per application. $350 X # of applications they need to view per user. This will get very expensive if a lot of users need to view the application. There are application licenses, there are named user licenses, there are session licenses, and developer licenses. There are way too many licenses of varying costs, none of which are very economical in my opinion. If you need to view more than three applications, the best alternative is to purchase a developer license, which allows for unlimited applications. However, that will set you back about $1400, even if the user is not a developer.

QlikView should give you just that: gather, provide access to, and analyze data and information about their company operations
So, QlikView has little success by itself, so we have to go with: ERP, CRM, or some planning and estimation solutions (this would take what-if scenarios) which means other costs besides the costs of implementing QlikView

Somehow both are still supported and they've developed new versions for both of these tools but Qlik Sense is basically the restyled version of QlikView. There's a lot of discussion about some features which are difficult to use including the user interface, all look and feel aspects, but I think that will be in the new version. What they could provide is a migration path to Qlik Sense. It's very difficult to do that automatically because it always requires you to check and change some new port. I'm referring to the properties of the various charts that you can create within Qlikview – this brings up a dialogue box with a number of different tabs along the top;
In my opinion, for example, the tabs “Visual Cues” and “Style” could be combined into one. “Caption” for another example could be renamed to “Title Bar config” or “Chart Config” or something like that. Some aspects of the “Layout” tab could be added to “Presentation”.
The dialogue box itself isn’t quite wide enough, so if you end up going all the way to the right you have to click on an arrow a couple of times to see the tabs all the way to the left again, and you can’t resize it either – Why???. The box itself should be wide enough to encompass the number of tabs in a single view. Either that, or have a maximise / minimise buttons on it to give the users the choice.
There are no doubt a few others I can point out if I give more though to it, just my feeling of the product is that it can be a little unwieldy, especially to people initially learning the program.

Currently we are building a pane to use filters and select options. For a dashboard, if they would add a "Column value" filter option like what you see in Amazon on the left hand side, that would be useful.
It could also have an autosave feature, which it direly lacks.
A direct feature to export views to PowerPoint, instead of external plugins, could be useful.
Sometimes large files are difficult to read and QlikView crashes midway. So you need to start from scratch. This is really an awesome product, but there is room for improvement regarding the visual aspect (this has been sorted out in their new product – Qlik Sense). View full review »While Qlik and their products are very intuitive and a pleasure to use as a developer of the dashboards and poweruser, many of my colleagues and stakeholders of information are used to static (paper) reports. This often leads to producing tables and graphs that are 'pinned down' (set analysis) to reduce the flexibility of the representations and the dashboards as a whole. (Qlik presents this as a core strength of their products.)
Often this makes the formulas for these expressions and dimensions very complex. Of course you could argue that the users would have to 'mature' to use this new, more flexible, way of information. But it would be a great improvement for the Qlik products if it were able to easily 'lock' graphs without extensive coding.

View full review »Although Qliktech's road map clearly states that QlikView has a long way to go, most of the R&D effort seems to be benefiting Qlik Sense which is getting stronger and sexier with every release 5 a year from now - June 2017).
Qlik Sense makes selling "Qlik" easier - the only "negative" aspect is that the "self-service" capability of Qlik Sense means less consultancy for our company but more customers!
Cost: The licenses are expensive.

The security features in QlikView are not yet mature: very complex to define permissions in a dashboard (based on data/sheets).
View full review »I believe that improved analysis prediction capability would be more than welcome in QlikView. If we could simulate scenarios in a more intuitive way that would be a nice-to-have feature.
Besides the fact it’s quite a useful tool for data visualization, the final user interface is not that intuitive. That might be the idea with Qlik Sense, which we haven’t had an opportunity to experience yet.

View full review »I think the visualization of the charts and the number of default charts provided by QlikView should be improved. QlikView only has limited chart options compared to its competitor. I think Map would be a great addition if QlikView can provide it as default chart.
I think that the type of chart that is provided by QlikView must be added to capture the need of variety of visualization. Tableau has more charts compared to QlikView.
View full review »Improve its table/data editor to allow easier ways to pull multiple data from multiple sources and associate them to establish a complete business data model.
Consider providing more features that allow the decision-making process of analysing different data at different levels to be captured. Maybe a decision-making flow/process editor for Qlik sheets and objects at the presentation layer.
View full review »The script engine for loading data needs a total overhaul. It is hard to use and counter-intuitive. It also blocks less-skilled users at the very beginning.
View full review »- Version changes should be made fully compatible with older versions.
- Advanced analytic capabilities of model building using regression or time-series analysis should also be added in the product.
I would like to see them add a powerful map and improve statistic functions.

- It should have an HTML text box control

- The performance of the Qlikview website is poor as it takes three minutes to open a page
- The SME server edition does not include a deploy tool, and we have to copy updated document to the server manually which seems ridiculous

I would say it's not negative, but it's an issue because we also use other tools, like SAP BusinessObjects, for a long period of time, which is another product in the business intelligence area.
Improvement in collaboration, between that and publishing of reports and publishing of models. Probably that could be more comprehensive, from my point of view.
I predictive analysis is an area with room for improvement.

Graphic User Interface, the product could be improved by a smarter, more intuitive and friendly interface for graphs or reports.
View full review »For me, it is important to have a mix, what is the "view" and what is the "sense", Qlik Sense. They have two tools, but for me it is important to have only one tool that combines the functions we have from one side and the other side. One application.
Also, they have not come out with new functions for QlikView. Qlik Sense has evolved but not QlikView.
Another problem is the printing. It is not a solution that comes with QlikView. I believe we had to buy it. It is not integrated. It is not the easiest to manage. It is not as easy as it could be.
Data Science.
View full review »QlikView is really easy to use and it can help you manage different kinds of data, but licenses are expensive.
View full review »Server performance. Reloading of data sometimes weigh down the server's performance.
View full review »I would like to see more ‘drag and drop’ functionality as, in my opinion, there is still too much coding required to join tables correctly.
View full review »Actually, Qlik, has decided to move forward with a brand new product, Qlik Sense, so it seems that QlikView can be deprecated as it follows an older approach that pre-dates data visualization in data warehouse and BI.

The backend (scripting) needs improvement to be more like a real ETL BI tool. The script editor is, in my opinion, no more than a basic scripting editor with too-limited debugging features.
