The initial setup phase has been quite interesting because of our experience when we had to use the agents on most of the endpoints, which means it was okay for us.

The solution is deployed on the cloud.

There were a few challenges. I had an integration issue with Qualys where they had to enable the data privacy from the back end because I couldn't integrate it with the SIEM.

The agents update themselves. There isn’t maintenance necessary once it is deployed.

In the first step, Qualys provisions your cloud-based management instance. From there, you get a small, lightweight agent deployed by deployment technology like Microsoft Intune, in our case, SCCM, or any deployment technology.

We worked with BCX Namibia and the Qualys team in South Africa while deploying the solution. It took two weeks to deploy the solution. The solution is not difficult to maintain because the management component is cloud-based and is taken care of by Qualys. Any agent upgrades that might be necessary are very seamless.

The initial setup is straightforward.

Qualys environment is implemented very easily, within one or two months. However, setting up the standard devices, such as opening a firewall, and preparing the network can take up to four or five months. The entire deployment takes about six months.

The initial setup is straightforward. After the cloud tenant is available and the agents are installed, the first scans can be done in one to two days.

There is maintenance required for the agents but it is completely controlled by the cloud and is done automatically. There is a necessity for human intervention when there is a new agent or new feature that must be tested before it is implemented.

This is an easy product to set up. It's not very complex to implement.

The deployment was very fast. We could do it in about a week's time. It can be done very quickly. There are just some configurations on the cloud, and you can handle the agent deployment using some deployment tools.

As it's a cloud agent, there wasn't any specific setup. It's also managed centrally by Qualys, and when they always release a new update, all we have to do is push it. So, the maintenance requirement is minimum at best.

Each customer is different and if you need to deploy a more active virtual process that will affect the implementation. If a customer wants to use policy compliance on their machines that can add to deployment time too. I tend to deploy myself because I'm usually making the POCs of Qualys.

Qualys is a fully SaaS solution.

It is dependent on the configuration. When you work with the agent, you are primarily concerned with deploying the agents to all assets. However, if you want to scan based on IP, you'll run into some problems.

If you wish to scan on an IP basis, for example, you should deploy a virtual appliance. You may set up several appliances for different domains. Otherwise, you must have your network rules properly configured so that the appliance can reach every asset.

It's relatively simple to set up the basics, but if you want to scan, it really depends on how many networks and domains you have.

In a couple of weeks, you can set it up.

Straightforward. Assuming you know your network layout, # of devices and other basic information it is pretty simple to figure out what you need. Qualys ships you the scanners, you rack them, set them up and technically could start scanning. Though, there is other recommended tasks to complete via the QualysGuard Vulnerability Management web portal such as defining asset groups, setting up scan rules, turning ticketing on, generating reports, etc. View full review »

Qualys initial setup is straightforward and if you follow the manual you don’t have any problems. You receive the credentials, login to the Qualys website, download the virtual appliance, configure the IP, and, after defining the credentials and the assets, you can start scanning your environment. For the hardware appliance you have to connect it to the network and after the configuration you can start the scanning.

The initial setup was very easy. We just needed to download the virtual machine. There is a key and we just needed to provide a proxy setting. That's it.

We did all the configuration as a one-time job where we defined our subnet and mapped. We needed to schedule the scan and the map and we needed to schedule a group of, say, Windows. It was just a one-time job where needed to configure the query and run it. It created a report and sent it to the administrators. After that one-time job, everything happens automatically.
