Radware Alteon Benefits

Network Engineer at a real estate/law firm with 1,001-5,000 employees

When our companies separated, we converted an F5 config to Radware, which is much easier to operate overall. The upgrades were smooth with F5, but Alteon works better for our small team. Operationally, the care and feeding process is more straightforward, and it's easier to learn how to use the load balancer side of the tool. The AppWall portion is a little more complicated, but the load balancer is effortless to learn.

Alteon makes it easier and quicker to spin up services when other departments come to us to deploy applications.

And its analytics have helped us save time, at least an hour or two in a typical scenario, when it comes to troubleshooting.

It saves us a lot of work in terms of management since it has tasks already defined automatically. That enables us to better administer our services. It is very dynamic and easy to administer.

Another benefit of using Alteon is the support that Radware, as a company, provides. They are very fast and that is key because the availability of our exposed services is always very important to us.

We realized these benefits immediately, with highly available servers without service interruptions. We have two servers, which, thanks to the virtual services that Alteon has, can be quickly balanced. Our services are always up. The time-to-value was almost immediate. The high availability of services helps avoid losses and any instability that might result in intermittent services.

We have high availability for both our servers and services, thanks to the virtual service that Alteon manages. We have two Alteon teams internally, so if one data center suddenly has a problem, the other data center still functions. That means we have an immediate solution. When one is not there, the other immediately takes control.

We go to the analytics, to the graphs and to the logs, where we can identify problems and failures. We have it configured to send us notifications and alerts when a service is slow or does not respond for some time. With the alerts and the logs, we are able to further verify the graph of the services and their states of health. That helps us a lot to quickly find out if we have a problem and find solutions. We can save 80 percent of the time it used to take to investigate a case because it makes it much easier and simpler for us to find an issue.

Radware has helped us to solve problems by providing optimal capacity.

It has also helped with the issue of migration to IPV6, thanks to its features and the way it is integrated into the network.

We are a data center company, and we used to see a lot of traffic management issues. Since the implementation of Alteon two and a half years ago, we have been able to load balance the entire traffic that is coming in. It gives our customers good performance. Customers are happy with the traffic management and the load balancing feature. The customers are more satisfied now than before it was implemented.

The integrated applicant protection is extremely good. Integration with third-party applications is easy in the case of Radware Alteon. This is a critical feature, and Radware has made it very simple.

We have also used the out-of-the-box integration feature, and we have also customized some integration with the help of our Radware partner. We have integrated with vRA/vRO. Ansible is going to be used along with my OpenStack in the new load balancer that we have attached.

The automation script libraries for each orchestrator are good. That is the reason the integration is simplified. If these automation scripts were complicated, integration would have been difficult, but because of these automation scripts, integration has become so easy, robust, and simple, and we are able to integrate third-party applications within a very short period of time.

It was way cheaper than F5, so that was the reason to move from F5 to Radware. In terms of value for money, maybe it's better. F5 is very good. However, it was really expensive. This solution is also quite good, yet costs much less.

It has improved our organization in terms of the availability of our critical systems by increasing the level of protection for those systems. We are a critical-infrastructure company, and the services have many internal clients that have experienced that improvement.

Our Alteon system is configured in high availability and it helps us have a very productive system. We have it on one device that is in contingency for when we want to apply changes. For example, we can do new parameterization that can be applied to the device that has Alteon in backup, do tests there, and almost automatically synchronize the changes with our main Alteon. In other words, we have a very versatile and high-availability solution.

In addition, the health status information, with its highly detailed reporting, has saved us time on troubleshooting. We have the precise information needed that helps us find different types of situations. It has saved us about 50 percent of our time when troubleshooting.

It gives our application more resiliency by providing redundancy so that if one server fails, another one can take over and service the website.

And when troubleshooting, Alteon’s analytics have helped me save about half the time it would take me otherwise.

In our data center, the biggest problem was handling the traffic. We have more than 9,000,000 consumers or electricity utility users. Handling the traffic was a little difficult, and the site was going down every one or two hours. We connected with multiple load-balancing companies such as RA Network, F5, Radware, etc. We found Radware Alteon to be the best because of three things. The first one was the product. The second one was the solution they provided, and the third one was the support team. The security features were also good, and we could use Pulse Secure for third-party SSL integration. The availability of the product was very quick. These were the main benefits of why we went for Radware Alteon 6420s.

Radware Alteon helped us to balance the links. Our data center is connected to almost 519 locations, and we have more than 9,000,000 users. Radware Alteon helped us to do the perfect load balancing so that the MPLS link and the ILL link that we are using in the data center get perfectly utilized, and there is no downtime. We have reduced the downtime for customers.

We have improved the user experience by having services available all the time, in addition to the fact that with this solution it is easier to manage from a graphical interface that is useful and intuitive, as an administrator it is important to have a clear and complete vision of the services that we operate. Simple troubleshooting tools have helped us solve problems faster and problems are more complex so analysis is complex so we asked for Radware support. This has helped us to identify exactly where the problems are in the network, correct faults, and continuous improvement.

IT Infrastructure Coordinator at a transportation company with 501-1,000 employees

The two use cases I mentioned are very valuable for our port activity. We must have our applications and services running 24/7 and balance the connectivity and the applications. Also, in terms of security, using Alteon means our services are available, with high quality, to external and internal users. This is one of the reasons I give a high rating to the abilities we have with Alteon.

It has enabled us to have high availability and fault tolerance in operating our applications securely. This has created a lot of value in our IT area around the services we provide to the organization.

Time savings are another area where the solution has helped us a lot. In particular, the visualization has been important for troubleshooting and error resolution. We have been able to find clearer information or more details that are important to solving these issues when they arise. It has reduced our troubleshooting time by about 50 percent.

The time to value was practically immediate. The issues with load balancing of the applications, and the balancing of the internet service and the services provided, changed quickly. They were things that could be identified by our clients immediately. We started to see results from the implementation of the solution within a month, and in some cases, within 15 days or less. For example, the load balancer started acting immediately. We have great confidence in Radware solutions.

Radware Alteon's integrated application protection is a good choice. It provides better protection for our web applications by delaying access to the interface and limiting access to specific web applications. This centralized and limited access makes it easier to manage our web applications, even if we have multiple users or customers. We have also provided suggestions for a release that includes the customer's recommended modifications and edits. This release is sufficient for cloud-based applications.

Radware Alteon's out-of-the-box integration feature is good.

The automation script libraries for each orchestrator are of good quality. Our team can apply the updates and configure them.

Radware Alteon has improved our organization by providing an interface for connecting 10 Gigabit Ethernet transceivers. This allowed us to increase our network bandwidth and improve the performance of our applications.

Radware Alteon Analytics saved us around 15 percent of the time troubleshooting. The dashboard provides a helpful overview of active alerts and warnings, and we can easily investigate and add new ones as needed. This has made it much easier to identify and resolve issues quickly.

The solution has added a secure layer in front of the servers, protecting them from malicious actors, especially the actors who are targeting our application.

And the analytics have definitely helped save time, about 20 to 25 percent, when troubleshooting, due to the breadth of monitoring and the visibility that the solution offers.

At this moment we can tell from the dashboard how our application is receiving traffic. You can look at how many transactions have occurred, for example. We can prevent issues from occurring which helps keep us safe.
