ReadyAPI Other Advice

SandeepSingh9 - PeerSpot reviewer
Sr. QA Engineer at Arizona Department of Education

ReadyAPI is deployed on-premises. My company bought five licenses, and my team uses three licenses while the other team uses two licenses.

My company uses the latest version of ReadyAPI. Every time there's a new release, it's downloaded, then that new version is used within the company.

I belong to a team of five that deployed ReadyAPI, but two members took care of implementing the changes after it's been reviewed by peers because that's taken into consideration before going ahead and deploying the changes to the next environment.

As ReadyAPI is a paid tool, it doesn't require any maintenance from my company's end.

Five people work on ReadyAPI within my company.

My advice to anyone looking into implementing the tool is to go ahead and try and test it to see how ReadyAPI can help you with your project and application, but I'm sure it's worth a try. Essentially, the ReadyAPI team does offer a trial period as well, up to fourteen days, from what I remember. You can just reach out to customer care and see if you could get a trial for a month or so because that would give you hands-on experience with ReadyAPI. That can give you an ample amount of time to figure out how the software works for your application.

I would rate ReadyAPI as seven out of ten for now.

My company is a customer of ReadyAPI.

Whatever scripts we have created, we have to maintain them, but the solution itself does not require maintenance.

This solution is limited to only SOAP and REST services. There can be one free month license available if there is proof of concept to be conducted, then go ahead. It is easily available.

I rate ReadyAPI a nine out of ten.

I would recommend ReadyAPI for users who need a tool for daily API testing, especially for organizations with frequent API deliveries. While it can be challenging to manage, especially with daily testing requirements, it is essential for maintaining version control and handling various data scenarios. Additionally, ReadyAPI integrates well with tools like Jenkins for automation, making it a valuable choice in a continuous integration environment. Overall, I would rate ReadyAPI as a five out of ten.

I would say that it's a very strong tool by itself. I haven't seen any other tool that matches the capabilities from a standalone point of view. If your goal is, "Hey, I have a bunch of services I want to test and play around with and even automate some testing around on a standalone machine," ReadyAPI is very powerful and capable and has a lot of benefits.

It saves a lot of time for future testing, so if I want to repeat a test over and over again every single day, it saves time. It has good source connections, such as a database or an Excel or adjacent file. It can take the source input in various formats, and it can give the output in various formats, like Excel, or it can also write it into a database. It has that integration available with other technologies.

I think it is trying to improve itself by having integrations into Bamboo, Jenkins and Jira, but it's bit late in the game there. I think there's still a lot of work to do on the CI.

I would rate this solution as a seven out of ten.

In my opinion, the only reason people aren't switching to the solution is because there is a lack of knowledge. The solution has its own programming language and that might be a red flag for some people because they find it difficult to change to something new. If you get your hands on the solution and spend time with it, then you will align toward it. If you are in the early stages of setup, you should definitely look at it.

Try the solution before buying it. Download the free version and use it for 14 days. Try to move some of your scripts there, run them, and see the difference. It is a very good tool but you need to ensure it is a good match for your requirements.

I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

If somebody really wants to use ReadyAPI to implement API automation, I would suggest different tools rather than ReadyAPI.

If they have already chosen to implement ReadyAPI, I would recommend that they have a mentor and a proper training plan in place. Even someone who has experience working with API automation will not be able to start immediately and use the solution. My advice is to learn the tool perfectly because there is a good chance that they will miss some of the key features which will definitely ease their work. Once they know all the small tricks and tips, it's really an easy tool.

Overall, I would rate this product a six out of ten.

I'm a customer and end-user.

I'm using an installed version. It's installed on my desktop. We're using the most up-to-date version.

I'd advise potential new users to look at many other tools. Do some detailed analysis of things like Postman and those other tools too, and then if you have more technical experts, try Python or others, including JavaScript-based ones. See which would be best. Consider how you would use it as well. That way, you'll be picking the right tool.

I'd rate it five out of ten.

I would say go for it. It is a really great tool. It is a game-changer because you can automate faster and quicker. It also doesn't take much time for any person to pick up the tool. It is pretty lightweight. Any person who has a little bit of technical background or 1% JavaScript knowledge can quickly use it and write code in Groovy.

I would rate ReadyAPI an eight out of ten.

My advice is that based on the flexibility of the application, the ease of use, and the price, it's definitely worth it. There's no other product out there comparable to the price we found.

I would rate this solution as a ten out of ten.

It is good to explore the ReadyAPI functionality first and compare the benefits with its price.

ReadyAPI can become a great tool for your organization for the long run and different types of APIs.

You should consider the API styles you have, such as SOAP, REST, or GraphQL, and check out how it is supported in ReadyAPI and how much benefit ReadyAPI will bring to you.

I would say they should know exactly what they're looking for because if they're looking for API testing, this is a perfect tool. If they want to automate the process, then go ahead and use ReadyAPI. It is the best tool that I have ever seen for API testing. However, if you're just using it for manual API testing, I would say get the trial version or use Postman. We also use JMeter for performance or load testing, but ReadyAPI gives both API and load testing. If you want to do both, this is a good tool.

I would rate this solution as a seven out of ten because we haven't integrated it yet with any deployment tools, so I don't know how difficult that process will be.

I'm an end-user.

I'd advise new users that this is not a free tool. If you don't have a budget, you can go try Postman. However, if you have $4,000 or $5,000 a year, ReadyAPI is one of the best tools to use. It is easy to learn, and it is easy to work with. The features are very good.

In general, I would recommend this tool to others.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

We are a customer and end-user.

If you are going to use this product, you should have a basic knowledge of APIs and how APIs work. This is an API automation tool specific to automating the APIs. If you have previous exposure to an open-source tool, like Postman, then you can easily get started with this tool. However, you must go through basic training if you don't know APIs and never work on APIs.

I'd rate it six out of ten. It gives us core value, however, the UI isn't great.

It's not stable. The Git API within ReadyAPI is a a GUI front end to make it easier to do version control but it doesn't work well as mentioned.

It's not reliable. I would not recommend this product, as there are better products out there.

Our plan includes a need to filter out all the API, middle-tier bugs. This is the initial phase of development. We don't want to find any bugs in either UAT or UAP. That's an objective for us, but right now, we are setting up the team and people are working on it.

My advice for anybody who is implementing ReadyAPI is, to begin with establishing a framework of what they want to achieve. Comfort with the framework is more important, before acquiring the license.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

The main advantage is that it could be integrated into different CI/CD tools. That is something that is really valuable and helpful.

I would rate it an eight out of ten.

In the next release, they should make the ability to extend different functions a bit easier. We extend some functionalities and it's possible to extend the functionalities because you have the ability to add many interesting pieces by yourself to that API but it's not so easy. It would really help if they improved that.
