RHEV Initial Setup

The initial setup is fairly straightforward and well-documented. The process is very similar to its competitors. The success of your setup depends on how well you plan.
So, I could rate my experience with the initial setup for all of those a nine out of ten – all three of them (Microsoft, VMware, and RHEV) across the board have very good documentation on how to set everything up and execute it.
Every platform requires maintenance because there are patches and bug fixes. I would say it depends on your security needs and how you plan around security and protect the hypervisor. Overall, I wouldn't have any major security concerns.
View full review »The deployment is not as easy as VMware. The time required for deployment depends on the setup. We face some issues that we need to troubleshoot and fix. However, VMware can be deployed smoothly without any issues if we follow the steps. We require more time to deploy RHEV compared to VMware. One engineer can deploy the tool. If we have skilled people, maintaining RHEV is easy.

If you're comparing it to larger solutions like VMware, the setup is slightly more complex because it requires a lot of technical knowledge. But the offset is that once you cross that hurdle, your system is super reliable. And it works and works. We have servers that have been running for the past eight years without having to be turned off.

For me, the initial setup was fairly straightforward and because I've been using it for so long I was able to do it myself. In terms of initial deployment, I was able to run up five DMs running Red Hat with Oracle database within a week.
The initial setup is straightforward. One system administrator is sufficient for maintenance.

The installation was easy. The time was affected by configuration requirements and the extent of work needed for customization. For example, the simplicity or complexity of it, how many virtual machines we want to establish, or whether we want MDM.

Because of the miss-organized documents, it was a bit difficult in the beginning. Once it went on, it became very easy. Overall, it's a very smooth and straightforward process.

The initial setup is very straightforward. In terms of ease of implementation, I would rate it as a four out of five.
I was not directly involved with the deployment process. However, a company likely will only need one or two staff members to deploy and maintain it.
