Steelhead Stability

Chaudhary Muhammad Moez Manzar - PeerSpot reviewer
Senior Network Engineer at Arwen Tech

In terms of stability, Steelhead performs well with no downtime. Even in situations like a power outage, the traffic continues to pass through the box, though optimization temporarily stops. It is a robust system that ensures uninterrupted traffic flow. Additionally, the option to use two boxes in High Availability mode adds an extra layer of stability. If one box encounters issues, the standby box acts as a backup, maintaining a smooth operation. The technology is resilient, ensuring that productivity doesn't halt even if optimization is temporarily paused. Overall, it is a stable solution without noticeable lag, crashes, or downtime.

These boxes were always up, very stable, and even upgrades were smooth. I can't think of an instance when the appliance wasn't doing it's job as expected.

At times, like all network devices there were issues, but support was there to help us understand/resolve any issues that we could not handle. Even if it meant RMA, we would receive a new Steelhead the next day and be able to replace it.

Some types of data flows between servers don't always lend themselves to being optimized by the Steelhead unit. These data flows must have bypass rules set up in order to properly pass traffic.

We have had some issues with licence acquisition following a hanging server or power issues. Sometimes it can take a long time to resolve the issue with Riverbed support.
