RSA Archer Valuable Features

RSA is a very rich application. I like its adaptive suggestion, where based on your users and the class of data, it can actually recommend you the proper control to choose. For example, we have been using PCI DSS as an NIST. So based on application feedback, it will provide you with a suggestion on which control objective needs to be set. Based on that, you can make a decision—you don't need to take the suggestion, but you can customize that particular provided suggestion. RSA Archer's workflow is also good, in terms of process automation.

It is enterprise-wide accessible. So, it is very helpful for all the employees in our bank. They can log in and do their risk management activities. It has a few inbuilt modules that are helpful for doing risk management activities, such as issue management, risk identification, risk assessment, and policy exception management. It also has some inbuilt workflows inside these modules. They are also helpful.

Its user interface is pretty good. It is pretty self-explanatory and intuitive, which is again helpful. It is also customizable to some extent. We can customize some of the functionalities and enhance some of the features to meet the user requirements for our bank.

The integration of data with application servers and databases is also helpful. We can also use API calls. For some of the functionalities, we can integrate API calls with RSA Archer to meet some of the user requirements.

The tool is really well designed overall and you can develop any application, automate any workflow including the GRC work processes. Workflow can be automated very easily so that providing access and making changes are all relatively simple. I find that integrations are very easy in this tool. For example, bringing data from an external tool is easy and manageable. It also provides a single tool to manage all the different workflows and different processes. For example, you can perform risk management, policy compliance, audit, and all other processes. It's really a one-stop-shop and a great feature compared to what other tools offer. Finally, the core solution and library provided with the tool are great compared to other tools like ServiceNow, which still process metrics. I don't think they come close to Archer.

The integrated data model of a one-to-many/many-to-one relationship is quite useful. It shows what needs to be done around your risk controls, policies, and processes. I can tie one risk to many business processes and have those controls tested once, and then apply them to many different risks and regulatory initiatives.

There are lots of features which motivate our client to use RSA Archer. First of all, its access control feature which provides access at application level, access at record level and  at page level. It helps client to avoid any unauthorised access.

Also, there is a strong integration between the RSA Archer modules and also option to integrate with other application/ process help client to increase confidence on data integrity.

Suppose if anyone is using RSA Archer audit management or any out of the box use cases, it also provides some of the inbuilt capability of the assessment, like some of the questionnaires and some of the controls that are available in RSA Archer.

Capability of sending automated email triggers to the stakeholder on a fix frequency.

With RSA Archer, an admin can set permissions for a normal user to go directly to the tool they need to input some data. Admins can then go through that and approve some requests. Also, they can log in based on these kinds of permissions, including ticketing, service patches, or upgrades. The manager gets a notification, and they can log into the mobile application using this tool.

I have used a couple of other products for the same domain. As compared to Archer, this solution is a highly mature product. The interaction has highly improved, especially in the latest two updates. The flexibility of the application and the usability have improved a lot as well. That's what I think stands out for RSA Archer.

When you get it to work, then it's valuable to me. The part I liked about Archer was the risk assessment for deficiencies and being able to use it there. The part I don't like is what it takes to get it really working right. That's not trivial. You need people that really understand it, and you also have to get people to stop making changes to the data schema and the rules, because if they do that, then it defeats the whole purpose of Archer.

From my perspective, because I've always done it as a consultant, I do like the way it is configured. They've gone into changing the application builder interface, so it is even easier. When you're working with users, it is really easy to show them how to do things quickly and how to configure, change, and design stuff quickly.

The most valuable features of RSA Archer are the asset management, risk management, and vendor management. It's a very simple tool that you can learn within a short period of time.

If I use an AGP, for the onboarding process, for example, I'll create a workflow. An item will go to my manager, the manager approves, and I'll automatically get an alert notification sent to me saying that you are being onboarded.

You can also put a lot of limitations, like permissions and values, in the AGP. As a security person, that is important to me. You can use any number of groups and permission levels. Now I created vendor management and many people have different kinds of applications in the AGP. Many people are users, but that doesn't mean each particular person can access all the applications in the AGP; it'll be limited. At the same time, I also can give edit permissions at the system level.

It is really valuable to me because there are a lot of things which I can do and learn from, especially different programming languages. It's not just built on one thing. There are multiple languages which I need to learn in order to run this. One is JavaScript. On the back end, it's C#.NET. On the server type, it's Java. Trying to figure out every single thing makes my knowledge grow more and more every day.

The most valuable features of this solution are the Data integration, the different kinds of Data import, Data feeds, and the API.

One of the useful features is the ability to connect to various systems in order to accommodate data.

Otherwise, all of our administrative functions, business apps, and application development are available, but this is the most important.

It can integrate with other systems to get that data, as well as get data out of Archer and into other legacy systems.

Reporting is very good. You can have reports and IUs on your dashboard, as well as different types of IUs.

Reporting is excellent for all types of aggregators, as well as for different types of integrators. That is one of the positive aspects.

The Advanced Workflow feature is one of the most valuable and user-friendly. We used to have to write multiple calculations. With Advanced Workflow, things are much easier for the developer and end user. It's a robust feature that allows users to easily identify what they're doing and where they are. We're able to create multiple layers with a specified functionality that gives an understanding of what is required as well as increased flexibility. Archer provides good security, enabling access where necessary. It's also a useful reporting tool, clearly showing functional data and, when needed, the ability for comparison. The default dashboard shows daily activities that are easily captured allowing for information to be extracted.

Specialist - RSA Archer at a tech services company with 10,001+ employees

RSA Archer is a valuable tool because it can manage the end-to-end functioning of any enterprise GRC module, such as compliance and risk management or business continuity plans and the entire BCM module. RSA Archer also provides many out-of-the-box solutions, which are use cases derived from the standards for GRC or risk management, governance, and compliance. It provides an end-to-end mechanism for business users on a single platform. That includes reporting, managing workflow, creating documentation, or tracking a process where you need to get approval from the various levels within the organization's hierarchy.

Integration is another great aspect of RSA Archer. From the beginning, integration has been a central focus for RSA, and Archer has always integrated well with most tools on the market today. RSA Archer has its own APA that can be integrated into any other tools using Dorknet, Java, or any other language you can think of. So the APAs are excellent and easy to work with.

RSA is also increasing the scope of customization. When using a tool, consultants like us might need to customize it because the out-of-the-box solution does not perfectly match the client's requirements. So RSA is quickly incorporating those customizations and allowing us various ways to do that. In doing so, RSA is opening up more areas where Archer can be used. Vendor management is the latest example. They have already added one vendor management module. I'm not entirely familiar with it, but it can be integrated with other tools directly on a real-time basis. So that's one feature, which is very new to Archer, and I think it's going to be a breakthrough.

One of the most valuable features is the ease of use. The customizable forms and drop-downs are pretty easy to configure. Automated notifications is another feature that is nice. The whole workflow, basically—if you're going through a workflow process, the whole process is automated with notifications. Basically, it's a pretty straightforward, easy-to-understand interface. I've also had the chance to develop some backend configurations, which is straightforward as well, if you want to add a new field or anything.

I like the dashboards and reporting features; it's easy to gather reports quickly which is great when your VP is waiting for the KPIs. The solution is generic and it's great to have out-of-the-box workflows and concepts. I'm very satisfied with Archer, possibly because I've been using it for so long and I'm in my comfort zone. I know, for example, that ServiceNow GRC is more customizable but it's not as secure as RSA Archer.
