Ruckus Wireless Pricing

Sachin Vinay - PeerSpot reviewer
Network Administrator at Amrita

Pricing and licensing are a concern for average enterprises as Ruckus is overpriced when compared to Aruba and Cisco. Also, it is better to go with a new controller license rather than adding to an old one since, over a period of time, most of the new devices will be supporting only the latest controllers.

Ruckus networking solutions offer various license-based models, including support licenses lasting a year, permanent AP licenses, and switch licenses with potentially expiring support. Ruckus One is a cloud-hosted platform with integrated features like analytics and AI, providing flexibility for customers. For network deployments, smaller environments may benefit from Ruckus Unleashed, while larger setups may require controller-based or cloud-based solutions, each with its pros and cons. Controller-based setups typically involve on-site virtual SmartZone deployment, while cloud-based solutions host controllers remotely. Hosted environments like Intel's offer greater network control, but may require firewall adjustments, while cloud environments have firewall limitations and subscription-based licenses. Ultimately, the choice depends on factors such as network size, control preferences, and maintenance needs.

I would rate it six out of ten. It is not cheap, but it also doesn't carry the high price tag of some other products on the market.

For licensing, the product licenses are permanent, while support licenses are renewed yearly. An AP license costs around $40, with support priced at approximately $20 per year.

Not all of our clients can afford a fully corporate solution like Ruckus. But for many of our clients, pricing is the only factor that prevents them from choosing Ruckus, as we have found Ruckus to be a very suitable and reliable solution for integrating wireless access points to a company's network.

Regarding pricing, Ruckus Wireless is a five out of ten. Though it's cheaper than Aruba Wireless, pricing for Ruckus Wireless, when you look at its functionality, could be more affordable.

The pricing is moderate. It's not as cheap as a few other options; however, compared to the performance you get, it's excellent. I'd rate the value of pricing ten out of ten. In terms of if it is high or low, I'd rate it five out of ten as it's moderate. It's better than Cisco in terms of pricing. Cisco gives you less performance and integration and costs more.

The license is perpetual. You may need to pay for extra support after a year. However, you do not have to renew the general license. You pay for everything at once in the beginning.

It depends on the client. You have an initial license cost that you need to buy to bind the access point with the controller. This is a one-time fee. You also have to pay the support fee that, if I remember correctly, is about $25 per access point. Its pricing and licensing can be improved.

Ruckus was much cheaper than their enterprise competition (Aruba, Cisco, etc.). We've found that Ruckus can handle the client density load with greater success than Aruba, so leveraging Ruckus has allowed us to lower our purchasing needs since we would need to procure fewer APs. Cloudpath would be an added cost if you wanted to deploy that solution.

For me, licensing is zero. You don't really need to have any licensing for what I own. The only thing is, unless there's some software update that you need, you don't have the support. If you're stable and it runs, you don't need to do anything. However, if you need those software updates they'll make you pay.

With Ubiquiti, there's no annual cost to keep the software upgraded, whereas with Ruckus, you have to pay an annual fee or three-year fee. That makes it a little more pricey.

Ubiquiti is quite a bit cheaper, just on the upfront costs than the Ruckus equipment. I mean the Ubiquiti quote we got, we're not only doing the access points, but we're also doing our switches. If one person is doing Ubiquiti switches and Ubiquiti access points, another vendor's doing Ruckus equipment. We're seeing half the cost with the Ubiquiti equipment. I worked for Ubiquiti on a very small installation where cost was at a premium and they needed to get in as cheap as possible. It worked for them. It was a church. Dropped in about four access points and they were happy.

The pricing is quite expensive. If you were to compare the solution, license, and pricing with another brand, I think Ruckus still have the most competitive pricing cost per feature rate among them all. For instance, drawing comparisons with similar products offered through HP or Dell EMC, Ruckus' price reasonable.

The licensing is great; it's more flexible than the other brands as well. For example, we can buy the license for upgrading the controller on an as needed basis. The other brands don't offer this option.

It's definitely a good value. It's more expensive than some of the other offerings out there, but when you compare it to other enterprise-class gear, it's very well priced. And the beauty of it is, because it has better range because of their patented BeamFlex - which is the way they can send and receive and listen to signals - you can actually use fewer access points. That means that it's a cheaper overall project.
