The existing test functionality is really old-fashioned, basic, and limited. The interface is also ugly because they haven't upgraded their UI in years. I know they're working on a new version, but they're really not moving fast enough with it. In addition, they're selling new modules using Netflix-style licensing, which doesn't sit well with a lot of business strategies, and which may cause drama going forward as the old functionality clashes with the new. In the future, I would like to see some more cohesive rationale between the releases - sometimes, a new functionality comes out, and it doesn't make an awful lot of sense next to whatever it was against.

The solution's administrative features need improvement. For circular training, converting handwritten rosters to digital format is complicated. Also, there could be a feature for attendance through QR codes or scanners. In addition, its integration with Microsoft Teams for virtual sessions is very complicated. They should improve these particular areas.

Cornerstone Learning can improve reporting. If they had a harmonization of the administration UIs it would be great.

There are some configuration elements that require Cornerstone engineering resources. It would be nice if we could self-serve.

I would like the ability to manage the user interface or the navigation and layout of the pages that are displayed to end-users.

We were on premium support, but we struggled on a fairly regular basis with the support model in terms of the turnaround times, especially during peak times surrounding end-of-year reviews and things like that. When things went wrong and we needed immediate attention, sometimes, we struggled to get the turnaround times that we were looking for.

My understanding is that they are working on the interface, which is something that is needed. The user interface and user experience could certainly use an update. The fact that it is a work-in-progress is obvious because it is strange to see one modern-looking page that is immediately followed by one that looks like it is from 1999.

The automated ticketing system for technical support often has a response time that is quite long, which is something that should be improved.

Something that I would like to see in the future is customizability for the Learner Homepage. This is an interactive web page for your training, and my company has chosen not to create a separate welcome page for the system. If it were customizable then I could, for example, have an inbox widget there. As it is now, the actions that a user can perform and not in a centralized location.

Even though the system has a number of features, design wise the user interface is a little bit complicated. It is hard for the user to navigate properly. Because the system has so many features, it has a lot of tabs and links. Sometimes, people get confused as to where to go and search.

Also, the user interface is not that great compared to that of other platforms. From a learner's interface point of view, it has limitations on the design side.

The certification in Cornerstone is very basic. It has a strong foundation, and you can configure it however you want to, but the template or the user interface for configuring a certificate or how the user gets a certificate needs to be improved.

A minus is that Cornerstone doesn't provide the admin the ability to create their own content for learning. So, you can just manage the content.

They don't invest a lot in some of the other modules. For instance, Succession is a very good module, but it is still a small module. You cannot do everything that you want. Similarly, with the HR module, it is complicated to put all the strategies in Cornerstone because it is very hard to find a workaround.

They should also work on the Recruitment module. There are a lot of bugs in this module. From my experience, even their support team is not proficient in this. They don't have a level-three support team experienced in the Recruitment module.

Cornerstone Learning could improve the curriculum function by giving it more flexibility. I'm managing the solution and I adding content to the system, and overall, the backend of the system looks a bit dated.  Cornerstone Learning has focused a lot on the user experience and less on the backend operational administrative experience. This could be improved overall.

There is always room for improvement. I would like to see improvement in notification management and administration.

Notification management, while it has improved a bit in the past years, is still a bit cumbersome and error prone. E-mails are tied to triggers, and while there are plenty of triggers available, each email template needs to be activated one by one, and each language is a different template. So that entails lots of clicks for the training administrators.

Several features could improve the situation markedly – from creating “mail packs” (instead of activating one email at a time, activating pre-defined groups) and, of course, creating multi linguistic templates, where the user automatically would receive the email version of his selected language.

The user interface is in need of improvement.

Reporting and analytics capabilities could be more flexible.

The platform is more useful for a corporate team program rather than for individual users, which is something that could be improved.

Better support for iOS is needed.

There is a need for quite a bit of improvement. The reporting side of things definitely needs a lot of improvement. At the moment, it gives you a data dump. You have to open it up in Excel and filter out the bits that you don't want and need.

The whole system itself is not so user-friendly from an administrative side. The way we used it is that we assigned curricula to our learners. So, if there were due dates on a certain learning object, those due dates weren't shown at the curricular level.

Another thing that we found was that where we used groups, the groups were attached to the assignments for the curricula. For example, if you have a group with about 30,000 learners in it, and if a learner left that role and moved into another role, you literally have to scroll through the pages one by one or three at a time to find that learner and remove that learner from the group. That's the only way that you could get them out of the group so that they were no longer assigned to that curricula. We spent a lot of time doing that. We asked for simply being able to search in the group for a learner and be able to remove them that way. We should be able to just remove people a lot easier. We should also be able to just delete a group. Certain people, such as super users and super admins, should be able to delete the groups. At the moment, there's no way that you can delete them. There should be a way to remove them to keep the system clean.

It was so vast in terms of what we could do in the system, but there was a lot of the functionality we didn't need, and we had to bypass that. From that aspect, it would be nice to have a default so that those selections are not available to us. That stops people from doing things wrong in there.

They're working on the mobile app. It's a lot better already, but it can be improved. Another thing that can be improved is the whole reporting. The online reporting, visual data, visualization dashboards are also improving, but it's not there yet.

In the next release, I would like to see improvement in the dashboards and reporting.

The user experience should be a bit more configurable in terms of recommending training to specific users. Now it's either quite hardcoded or based on machine learning. It would also be good to have some kinds of intermediate features that allow organizations to propose training based on the criteria they choose and not just based on machine learning.

Its dashboard and analytics must be improved. Currently, we get the data, but we don't get anything from the insightfulness perspective. Analytics is where it requires a lot of work. We definitely expect some good dashboard features, which are currently lacking in this solution.

From a technical perspective, they need to open access to all HTML tags. It currently doesn't support many HTML tags, which makes it challenging to create HTML pages.

The reporting for certifications is tough – the clients I’ve worked with want to be able to report on Learner progress against the individual learning objects that roll up into each certification section but it’s unavailable. You can report on the learner’s completion status but not on the status of the items themselves, i.e: Learner Jane has been assigned certification Y. She has completed these 3 learning objects of the 5 in the certification. I worked with a client last year that was building out 400+cert paths and they had to order a custom/back end report from CSOD to even get a listing of what LOs roll up into each cert.

The certifications themselves are great in terms of they allow ease of assignment – manual or dynamic – and the ability to renew/recert is easy too. But I’ve found build out isn’t always super intuitive for clients moving from other systems. It’s easy once you have the hang of it. I am told that certs has been a functional area CSOD is looking to improve upon soon so hoping an upcoming release will enhance the cert ability.

I would like more robust reporting or more flexibility and scalability around the reporting side. Certainly the way it manages SCORM packages could be improved and that could be because there's so many providers or vendors that provide learning content. I think there needs to be more collaboration between those developers and how Cornerstone utilizes them because our main problem is managing how those packages work within the tool from an employees' perspective and user perspective.

This solution needs to be less simplified.

It has a different look and feel, and the clients need to have it look like the other applications. You should be able to go in and change the look and feel of the system.

Also, Cornerstone does not have a hybrid architecture. It is only on the cloud and our clients cannot have their data on the cloud. They need a hybrid where the data is inside and the application is on the outside.

In the next release, I would like to see a Hybrid architecture and to be able to customize the look and feel.
