SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform Previous Solutions
All of the systems were running on-premise. However, when the SAP Cloud Platform was introduced, we began using SAP's native solutions and native applications. You can use the SAP cloud connector to connect backend systems that are running on-premise. This is the type of usage we began with when we first used the SAP Cloud Platform, and we have been very pleased.

I do work for enterprise customers, and in the past 10 years, I have seen more presence of SAP, Tableau, and Qlik, but now Power BI has also started capturing the market. Power BI is cheap. Its per-user license fee is cheaper than SAP. That is the key reason why people are switching from SAP to Power BI, but at the end of the day, when customers who have been using SAP for ages do the PoC on Power BI, they are not getting the ROI that they're expecting. They already have a solution that is proven, working, and giving them what they are looking for.
All the tools have certain technical challenges in terms of the whole landscape or whole ecosystem, and our clients use tools as per their requirements.
Its integration with the SAP ERP system is a pro. Another pro is that SAP is already in the enterprise market. They understand the landscape of big companies, and that's how they actually enhanced their product. They also have a very good user community. However, SAP's dashboard capability needs to be further improved. It is improving, but Tableau, Power BI, and Qlik have already captured a big share of the market, and regaining that share of the market would be quite difficult.
We are also using Power BI.
When we moved into the SAP landscape we had two choices. We had IBM Cognos and could integrate SAP with Cognos or we go for an SAP solution which is an SAP BI that automatically integrated with SAP ECC. We chose SAP BI. However, now, we are moving more towards Power BI and moving away from SAP.

We previously tried to work on Power BI and on Microsoft SharePoint. But with Power BI, there are a lot of limitations. Its visualization is very good, but you have a lot of limitations, and it uses a lot of memory. It does not provide efficiency and scalability when we are talking about a high volume of data. When you are talking about simple reports, it's very good and its visualization is great, but sometimes business users are in need of answering complex questions, so here SAP was better for me.

I have used other products, but my company hasn't really used any other product or any big data solution like this.
It has been wonderful but they have to integrate it with the Big Data economy system to sustain it.
View full review »Our organization also uses Tableau in some instances when we need to query several data sources/views for one dashboard because of performance. However we usually try to use Business Objects because of the synergy we find with SAP systems as a data source as well as the data security options available in SAP HANA.

I previously use Oracle BI. I think the Oracle BI is stronger and has more functionality than SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform. However, it does not connect to SAP ERP which is a disadvantage.

We previously used SQL Server Reporting Services because it was included with Microsoft Server and it was free. The reason we switched was because SSRS lacked the ability to do what we needed without involving IT.

We currently also work with Crystal Reports, which is dated, and Jasper, which is also not that great of a product.
When we began to switch to SAP, we really wanted customization capabilities and we wanted the business layer. We needed something to provide a middle layer or translation layer so that people can generate reports much quicker, and, at the time, SAP was a good option.

I am a consultant; even if I advise changing BI reporting toolsets, I do so reluctantly. It is more involved than at first glance, particularly if you have a user base. To date, I have not encountered a situation where I would advise changing BI toolsets that have some traction in the organization. At least not without a plan.

The company implemented BusinessObjects 10 years ago. At that time, it was the best product on the market. A lot of things have changed in 10 years.
The most important criteria when selecting a vendor, if we're talking about a reporting tool, is the ease of use for the end-user as well as integration with other tools, like data dictionaries and data catalogs. That would make the underlying data more visible to the end-user. And, of course, price is important.
