The initial setup is very straightforward. There'll be some hiccups, but the deployment doesn’t take more than two days.

The initial deployment of SAP Business Warehouse is straightforward. SAP has made significant improvements in deployment processes, making it much easier compared to ten years ago when it required expert assistance to get it up and running.

The initial setup is pretty simple. You just have to complete the step-by-step book from SAP. It's very simple. I'd rate the ease of setup eight out of ten.

The deployments are manageable every week, so if it's for the simple change, it's weekly. We divide our changes into minor, medium, and major. Minor deployments go every week, major ones go biweekly, and then the major change is monthly or once every two months.

How long it takes depends upon the objects that you're sending and the number of objects that you're sending, and the changes that you're sending. There is a max of six hours of downtime when you have a big change going in, however, when you have a minor change every week, it's under an hour.

You only need one resource to handle deployment.

There is regular maintenance required. On the BW side, an average team size of ten is good. Depending upon the complexity, it might increase. It depends client to client. You can't put a number on that since it all depends on the number of modules implemented and the number of reports available.

On the support range, it's a medium-scale. If there is only BW support, a minimum of three and a maximum of five resources are necessary. It's only for BW, not any other integration reporting tool. Just for BW, about three resources is enough, however, for BW.

SAP Business Warehouse is a complex product in terms of implementation and initial setup. The setup is not straightforward because you have route data mapping. I found the initial setup for SAP Business Warehouse complicated.

How long the tool implementation takes depends on the requirements, but usually, it takes me about four to five months to start running SAP Business Warehouse in normal circumstances.

So far, the initial setup process in our company has not been easy enough for us to understand. As of now, I might be wrong or right since we have not completed and are still undergoing the transition phase in our company. Once it is completed, I can only give feedback on how easy or complex the setup process was for our company. As of now, still, we have some connectivity issues.

The solution is deployed on the private cloud.

The initial setup for SAP Business Warehouse is not as straightforward because it's not an out-of-the-box product. You need to brainstorm with other business users and find out what you need to build department-specific or user-specific configurations before you can start using SAP Business Warehouse.

In the earlier days of my career, I implemented SAP Business Warehouse. I did one in Australia, one in South Africa, and three in India. Whether the implementation was easy or complex depends. If you have complex requirements, then your implementation will be complicated. Otherwise, implementation would be simple.

One implementation was a bit complex, and the process took almost nine months, but that was for an implementation where you didn't use all features simultaneously. Instead, you implemented the features one by one. Going live completely took nine months.

My team went phase by phase with the SAP Business Warehouse deployment. The first step was going live with the sales module that contained different sales reports. Next was the material management, and the final stage was the core modules going live. However, for any module that needed complex modeling, that went last. Initially, my team gave the basic reports to users, but the customized reports would take some time.

This is not a straight out of the box product. It is a product that needs a lot of brainstorming along with the business users to find out what they need so that the build is department specific.

The product is straightforward to install and deploy. It takes two to three weeks to complete the process. I install it for the customers and forward it to application executives for data warehousing. The number of executives required for deployment depends on the organization’s size. It requires approximately one to ten people, depending on the project requirements.

Initial set up is pretty easy. You just install it and connect it to ECC. The tables are already there as well as the business content. If your company has a lot of customized processes, then you have to adjust a few things.

Otherwise, if it's a fairly new company, then you just have to connect ECC and the data will start coming in. You can do batch jobs and create aggregation. The initial implementation is fairly easy in that scenario.

The setup was straightforward.

The only thing which we needed help with, and are still struggling with, is getting to know the AW server. That really helps because we always have to be dependent on a vendor or a consultant company to help with our strategy.

If SAP could help with that, it would really help us with the hardware requirements. Because we are not on the cloud, we still struggle with the SAP and always have to be dependent on a partner to give us all the information. There are existing details about the basic configuration and requirements based on the data sizing - that calculation is available and it really helps.

The initial setup was good enough. I wouldn't say straightforward, because we took about a month to set up the server, processes, tools, and the software. For me, one month does not signify a straightforward process. Maybe it's because we are using iSeries from IBM and it's not a very popular architecture. So in part, it was our fault too because we are using that line of servers.

For setup, you definitely need tutorial planning and a second set of eyes—even a third set of eyes—when it comes to code checking and things like that.

I would rate setup 3.5 out of 5.

The set-up of the solution was very complicated. I believe SAP has a new offering on HANA that may be easier, but we have still not adopted that due to cost concerns.

Deployment took about one and a half years.

Consultants had to come in with their content and explain everything and helped by calculating the BW content. The BW developers had to understand all the build documents. That took a lot of time because SAP's architecture is very complicated for general users to understand.

It took about 35 to 40 people to handle the implementation across the organization. There were about five people from each department because Business Warehouse is something that's set-up for all departments and all the systems that all departments use.

We have three to four people from our internal IT department that handle maintenance. We also have a support structure with an external third-party vendor who assists with our maintenance support. Roughly, in total, we have six to ten people handling ongoing maintenance.

Setup is sometimes complex, sometimes not. For example, LIS structures are initially highly complex; you have to drop setup tables and re-fill it again. But other structures do not use setup tables and are more straightforward.
