SAP CRM Initial Setup

Shreyas K M S - PeerSpot reviewer

Setting up SAP CRM is straightforward. I rate it eight out of 10 for ease of setup. SAP provides all the tools and techniques were available from the vendor. However, the integration portion is a lot of work and requires some functional consultants.

It takes some effort to customize the program and rewrite it to align with our business standards, but the initial implementation is straightforward. We didn't face any challenges here.

Total deployment for this project took around eight or nine months, including development, testing, and validation. After deployment, the administration is fairly simple. We have to take care of the licensing part and forecast data growth for the next three or four months.

We have the tools and people available for operations as well as vendor support. If we have complex issues, we can raise a ticket to the vendor and get it sorted.

It was comfortable setting up the tool because I have previously worked with other tools that are cloud-based, like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft-related services, and also Google. So, I've worked with a couple of software that have made me comfortable with setting up SAP CRM.

We have a designated team to do the deployment so I cannot comment, but our model of deployment is on-premises.

In terms of deployment, there was an initial training organized by the supplier. Then we had regular interactions with the mentorship training team who was directly involved with the deployment. The overall experience of deployment was satisfactory. Everything was working smoothly and I appreciate the step-by-step approach, which helped us to deploy this software more efficiently.

I would rate my experience with the initial setup a nine out of ten, with one being difficult and ten being easy.

The deployment takes a few hours.

The deployment process was complex, but it was not specifically related to SAP CRM; it would have been complex with any other provider as well. The complexity mainly stems from internal factors.

We created an initial template with one country and then rolled it out to other countries. We made adjustments to the template as needed, especially when specialists in different regions discovered requirements from their old systems that needed incorporation into the new system. The duration varies, ranging from three months to one year.

The deployment is a complex process.

It takes between a year and two years to implement. One of the projects that we completed in our region began in 2017 and was delivered at the end of 2018.

The initial setup is fine. We use an activate methodology, and we go and find the scope. However, all the customers will align with what SAP delivers out of the box, every customer needs some variation. That variation you need to deliver through the bespoke development. Unfortunately, the bespoke development in SAP CRM Cloud is quite challenging.

The initial setup is extremely complex. We are a fifty-billion-dollar organization with 400,000 people, so the setup will be complex irrespective of the software.

The initial setup for SAP CRM has not been straightforward, and we're still trying to get it tuned correctly.

In terms of how long the setup took, it was around one and a half to two years to get a basic understanding of the process, but we didn't have any deadlines, and that could be why the setup took that long. If we had a deadline, we could have cropped down on the setup time.

The initial setup is not straightforward like Microsoft Dynamics. To be fully workable, the administrator needs to customize many things. From scratch it is not very usable. To make it usable, you need to customize many things to get the expected results.

It was deployed in different countries and it took a different amount of time for different customer centers. But for Bangladesh, it took almost three to four months because we needed to extract data and to upload that from the previous CRM system. Later we needed to customize many things as per our business requirements. So it took almost three months for the implementation.

The initial setup of SAP CRM can be complex but it depends on who is doing it. For us it was straightforward.

SAP CRM has components, such as a development environment and testing environment. The length of time it takes to the implementation depends on either requirement. I cannot say universally it's straightforward. It depends on how large the customer is and how large their database is.

Our requirements are quite complex, our customers like to use the solution and we are supporting them.

The initial setup was a little complex in the beginning. The technical team had to change the standard features. They developed some features that the business needed. Not all the implementation was the standard. You need around ten people to deploy and maintain this solution.

The initial setup was not very complex, it connected to our back-end SAP system. We have a Java portal at the front. We used a third-party service provider who was an SAP gold partner and carried out the implementation. The product requires the usual security-related patches to be applied as and when there are issues, then regular database upgrades and OS upgrades. We have around 450 people who are working on this solution.

There is a great need for consultancy work. You need to first understand the needs and then design and configure the application. You need to understand all the features of the software in order to have a good installation. It is not for a common user. You need specialization and knowledge about it.

For its deployment and maintenance, we have at least 10 people. We have five engineers and five power users or business users.

The implementation of SAP CRM is complex sometimes. Our team cannot deal with some functions in the solution. We have some trouble, some aspects are not as easy to fix as some other CRM systems.

If someone takes training and understands how the processes and functions work, it will be very easy.
