SAP ERP Other Solutions Considered

I have practical exposure to other ERP products such as Oracle and Microsoft Dynamics. Their integration features are very loose because they are not architected as a single solution.

For Oracle, they acquired different companies and tried to integrate them together. With each architecture being different, the integrated solution is not robust. For example, Oracle will process payroll and push accounting entries into the ERP through a robot process automation. But these things were all achieved by SAP 25 years back as an integrated solution.

For Microsoft Dynamics, they too acquire and try to integrate so the end products are not robust. They have rebranded and relaunched four or five different ERPs including Acceptor, Great Plains, and Solomon.

If I compare SAP ERP with its competitors like Microsoft or Oracle, then I rate SAP a ten out of ten, but the ratings may vary depending on the industry where SAP is used. Considering the manufacturing and distribution sector, I rate SAP a ten out of ten, but if you use SAP in the banking and financial sector, then I rate it a seven out of ten. Different industries have different preferences.

We chose this solution because of its stability, and the system offered everything we wanted. In my company, I primarily research IFS, and this solution was the first time I heard of IFS and SAP because they met all our work requirements. Since we work in mines, we use different systems like geology, metal and accounting, and they need to integrate with SAP, and SAP is very flexible for that.

Because I was representing third parties as their solution provider. I already knew most features and functions, so I never went to another vendor for support. But in such cases, if I can't resolve an issue, I log a ticket to an SAP technical team like the core SAP team or the SAP Support Portal.

We are considering S/4HANA for our organization. We are also looking at SAP Business One. It looks fair, but it seems to have some limitations. It doesn't seem suitable for big organizations.

PeopleSoft was on our shortlist at that time, although today it's Oracle. But they made it very hard for us to go with them because they didn't want to do meetings. They didn't respond to our calls. That was the worst kind of vendor you can find when you are looking for a new one.

There was another, Meccano, here in Chile. It wasn't on the same scale as SAP ERP. So we went for the sure bet and went with SAP.

I do not know if other ERP solutions have a heatmap to show where there is the most activity. SAP ERP does not have this feature. Camunda has a heatmap that is used with the optimize and Cockpit module. The heatmap in Camunda gives you a perfect view of your company process. The map shows exactly where the processes have some difficulties at a glance. For example, it will show where the most steps are used and where work slows down with bottlenecks. Having this information can give you insight into improving your larger view of your process and where it is working or not. You can see the whole picture in one window, and you can see all the stages of the process. You can easily define where it is most important to work on making improvements.
