SAP S4HANA on AWS Other Advice

I know the PTP part of the public cloud is for business analytics from the IT side. I'm not updated with S4HANA's new certification, but I did my old one. I have very good exposure to SAP S4HANA. I'm certified in all areas, not only in AWS as a professional architect, but I work on the Azure side. I work with multiple backup solutions, SAP side, and, especially, I have very good expertise in AIX and Red Hat Linux. I am very good at the cluster part and SAP workloads. I recently passed all the examinations, which were very hard examinations.

SAP I work on all S4HANA on AWS, ranging from 1610 to 2022. So, I am just doing this upgrade to SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 07 right now, which is coming to the market. And we are planning to resize that hardware. I am including multiple activities in S4HANA on AWS. So multiple activities should be SAP, patching, high base, and a few more related stuff. Also, I recently did very good projects related to the data center, which is normally for the ERP, including BW, HRM, and CRM, which are in a patch with the correct version. So all are in sync now, and so all servers are running very fine without any database loss.

With the solution, I know how to do the IT, MC, and business function part while also knowing how we can pull the data from SAP S4HANA on-premise to the automation side. I have completed my projects very fast, with and without conversion, along with greenfield and brownfield. With my expertise, I can deploy it very fast on servers, including AWS.

In IBM, they want SAP S4HANA on AWS. They are not happy with Zoho Cloud and Paradigm solutions for the last two years. So, now they are ready to move to AWS because of its speed and security features.

I rate the overall solution, including the overall software that is SAP S4HANA on AWS, a nine out of ten.

When choosing a solution and you're completely new to ERPs and you're going out and doing analysis, what you're looking at is many factors, such as are you a Microsoft shop where you have Office365 with Outlook, Excel, and that's your standard company-wide solution. Then you're already really comfortable with Microsoft. You might go ahead and use Microsoft Azure for hosting and database management. You could be a shop that has always used IBM since mainframes and you just love IBM so you're going to stick with them. However, I have found Amazon AWS, they have a great reputation. This is very important to me.

Each one of the hosting vendors has its own way to provide the service and has its pros and cons. You have to know how many people are going to be using it, and what's the cost per seat. You have to do a cost analysis because they have different pricing based on what you want to do.

I rate SAP S4HANA on AWS a ten out of ten.

It takes about 15 people to maintain the SAP S4HANA application stack and all its related components. We have individual teams who own the business capability. That count is very big and they handle all the CA work.

We have approximately three to four people supporting this solution for maintenance.

My advice to others is this solution is straightforward and the deployment is very easy. I would suggest choosing Amazon AWS for SAP S4HANA if you have a nearshore data center to avoid any latency issues if we are in a different time zone.

We are an SAP partner.

We deploy both on-cloud and on-premises versions. We have done SAP on cloud on AWS and the latest cloud solution, which is provided by SAP - Horizon ERP. SAP is increasing a lot. We have more returns from Horizon SAP compared to AWS, however, with AWS, we do have our consultants on the infrastructure side - including SAP cloud architects and SAP business consultants who are well versed regarding the requirements.

I am into the development area, but for me and my organization, I am looking after the SAP business development part for the client acquisition and sales and marketing.

Whether the solution would be a good fit for a company depends upon three scenarios. If the customer is a bit hesitant about the cloud, for example, then we go for SAP on-premise. If the customer is not hesitating about the data, then SAP and AWS are also good, however, SAP is also coming up with their own SAP online solution, which also might work for some people. Cost-wise, SAP AWS is always better.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

The advice that I would give to people who want to use S/4HANA on AWS is that a specific study needs to be involved in the implementation process. It is what we call a discovery session. The idea is to discover all the independent needs for the use of the product. This includes things like the size of the organization, the size of the industry, the number of users expected, the revenue, et cetera. It should also include projections into the future aspects of organic and inorganic growth. The budget may be the main issue for many organizations. The deployment plan should be created based on keeping all these discovered factors in mind. This can affect the deployment model or choices as to whether to go for SAP S/4HANA on the cloud, on-premises or if another ERP may be a better choice. But in any case, all the factors need to be taken into consideration. It is not a black and white decision.

On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate SAP S/4HANA as very near to a ten. Maybe nine because there is no competitor like SAP in the market right now to compare the product to and maybe there is room for improvement. I think that Oracle and Microsoft are looking to close the gap. But, looking at the current market share of SAP, it is at the top so it is near to a ten.

We are authorized to sell SAP. We only provide infrastructure licensing.

If our client's company would like to deploy SAP S/4HANA on the cloud, then we provide the AWS infrastructure or Huawei infrastructure to clients to deploy.

SAP B1 customers are not taking infrastructure from the cloud. They are directly taking the SAP B1 as a service on-premises. S/4HANA has separate modules that you can have on cloud models, and we do provide the cloud infrastructure to deploy S/4HANA.

We use infrastructure as a service for SAP S/4HANA deployment, though AWS has a separate offering where you can have a platform as a service offering, meaning that they will provide the infrastructure and provide SAP.

We highly recommend the solution to others and find that every year we have more and more clients implementing it.

I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten.

The advice I would give to someone who is looking into implementing this product is to wait for a year basically so the product will mature and stabilize. The company and the users will learn what the issues are that have been discovered by other people and then maybe it is OK to take on S/4HANA as a project. The project itself is going to take eight to nine months to get completely on HANA. If this part of your business is the backbone of your industry, you can not afford to make this kind of risk.

On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate the product overall as between a five and a six. Closer to a five at this point. The problems are that the GUI should be updated and the time needed for real user issues that will come up, be identified, and be rectified. Probably after that, you will start seeing the results with the product moving in the market and raising awareness and popularity. It is more of a wait-and-watch as of now in my estimation.

This solution is fantastic, and I fully recommend it as I recommend all SAP solutions. All of their products are good for SMEs or for large enterprises.

From the functional side, there is very little room for improvement in this solution. There are always enhancements that can be made, of course.

It is not easy to find people with knowledge of the HANA database. People skilled in HANA are rare and expensive, unlike Oracle, where you can find thousands of CVs for database administrators.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Planning is very important before undergoing an S4 implementation and upgrade. The functional components need to be planned and tested thoroughly. Otherwise, the lines will not be met. Try to do a Greenfield implementation because it will be much simpler.

I would rate it an eight out of ten.
