Slack Valuable Features

Twenty years ago, we communicated through email, where we would send documents back and forth with different versions as people changed them. If we sent the documents to a group of people, we would have to figure out the versions and who modified what. When we work with a platform like Slack, we can have one source without merging different document versions. That makes people more productive and collaborative at the end of the day.

Slack allows me to write personal notes to myself and set reminders for them. It has a send now and a schedule send option, so I can send messages immediately or schedule them for later. Maybe you don't want to send a reminder to a certain team now, but you'll forget when you have to; you can schedule it.

One of the key benefits is the ability to easily share large video files and documents without any limitations. It also integrates with ticketing systems like Jira, allowing you to add plugins, such as Outlook, to streamline collaboration with emails. It offers customization options for various applications, including integrations with Zoom for video calls and a wide range of other integration plugins. This flexibility in integration is a significant advantage. You can segment your user base into different channels based on shared access, ensuring efficient communication. One recent noteworthy feature is the collaboration space, known as Slack Canvas, which enables users to share and edit documents collectively.

Slack offers several valuable features. Firstly, they have a message deletion feature, which is now available in other software as well, but Slack was the one who introduced it in enterprise solutions.

Additionally, Slack has a great feature for creating communities. This means that if you want to communicate with someone from a different company, you can create a channel specifically for them. They won't have access to other channels or public channels in your company, only the channel you've created for them. This is particularly useful for our interactions with one of our client, as we have a dedicated channel with them, allowing us to receive support. It's one of the best use cases I've seen for Slack, apart from its primary use for intra-company communication.

Nowadays, we don't need to visit an HR portal. Our marketing and human resources teams directly share details about birthdays, upcoming events, and important dates in Slack. Whether it's a training event, a company-wide gathering, or a social event, all the information is shared there. This keeps us all updated.

It's very easy to share files in Slack. We need to drag and drop or upload them. The tool's mobile application experience is user-friendly.

Our usage was fairly limited. We used it to communicate with our team internally, and, in some cases, we had Slack channels with customers as well. But that was purely to ensure that the information was accurate and there were no different versions. Everyone was aware of the latest happenings. That's the only feature we actually used. We never used any other features.

However, I appreciated that it was easier than email and more comfortable than sending emails. The entire conversation is recorded in one place where anyone can go back and look through past discussions, statements, or situations. It's much easier than trying to figure out how to use the search feature in email. And, obviously, given that multiple threads could be initiated, email can lead anywhere. Slack helps us keep the conversation focused and avoid multiple threads that create more confusion. I would say that has been the biggest advantage for us.

Even if something happens to our mobile phones, we can still retrieve our messages in Slack. I like that we can integrate the solution with various tools. The product gives the best user experience. One thing I like about Slack is the ability to change the color of Slack. It depends on my mood. When I'm having a bright day, I just change the background color of my Slack, which is nice. Then, I need to spend on the mode.

Another thing I love is that you can create different teams on Slack, and you have to give each team a legal name and use an icon. The icons on Slack are beautiful. I especially like the variety of icons available on PeerSpot. Another aspect of Slack is the ability to edit your profile picture. It's a visual icon that you can personalize. Yes, you can bring in your own picture and set it as your profile picture. It's a nice feature.

Also, when it comes to emails, you can navigate your email through Slack. If you have an incoming email, Slack will notify you.

If you have an upcoming meeting, Slack will notify you, or it can notify you about your meetings. I like that feature. Additionally, you can connect other applications like Asana and Trello to Slack. That's how you integrate all those applications into Slack. Then there's SMAX. I've used SMAX before.

If you want to communicate with your team without using Google or Google Meet, all you need to do is send them a message on Slack. You can hold a call with them. The network usage of Slack is super cool compared to using Google. The networking aspect of Slack is excellent. Also, my friend mentioned that if you want to organize your day-to-day activities, you can create schedules within Slack.

Basically, it’s great for getting different kinds of groups with different partners - let's say one with the IT, one with the payment solution, into one place. It’s used just to communicate and nothing more than that. It's just a better solution to use instead of Skype or any other standard application.

It is easy to set up.

The solution is stable.

The product has the ability to scale.

We use thread-based communication. So that if a new person comes to look into a problem for a particular task, they can easily go and look into the particular thread it is discussed in.

We also send/download multiple files at a time.

It's also helpful that we can do group and individual calls on Slack.

  • Channel conversations, because it's an easy way to get to a few people or a whole team at the same time.
  • Private conversations, because they're simple, convenient and they work!
  • Slackbot reminders, because it's a simple way to set a reminder for yourself or a colleague, without messing with calendars.
  • Integrations. For instance, thanks to integration of our own application Woodpecker.co with Slack through Zapier, we get notified each time one of our users starts the paying process and each time they complete it. We can actually see the new customers coming on board in real time.
  • Slack is just a communicator, no more. It has a narrow set of features focused on team communication. It's simple. I guess that's why it works so well for us.
