What is most valuable?

What is good about this product is that the customers get real insights into the behavior of their network. They can see what is flowing over it. They will know what kind of data it is, like whether it is YouTube movies or if it is application information. This allows them to get an exact picture of… more»

What needs improvement?

I see a tendency in the industry that a lot of software is going into the cloud. Customers now have to install it on-premises or they could install on-premises software in the cloud. That is also possible. So I see a tendency that software is becoming more cloud-related and I think that it is… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have been working with another HP product called OpenView a long while ago, but that software is now disappearing and it is being replaced by HP with SolarWinds. The big bank I worked with has already replaced all the HP OpenView software with the SolarWinds product. The main difference between… more»

What other advice do I have?

My advice to people who are coming to SolarWinds is that they do a training on the website and take advantage of exploring the trial version. The free trial will allow them to use the product and get to know the features before paying for it. I always recommend that smaller organizations start… more»

What is most valuable?

The biggest thing for me is that it provides enough information for me to monitor. It alerts and provides you with the information that you need. SolarWinds is one of those tools that work across the spectrum with different products, such as Cisco HP. It is very customizable. I am quite happy with… more»

What needs improvement?

I can say that SolarWinds is good on the market, but it's also expensive. The price is an issue. It would be nice to have the device tracking software as part of the Network Monitoring suite. If you go with Spiceworks, which a free shareware product, they will give you all of that type of… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's expensive and there are costs in addition to the standard licensing. They have additional modules, for instance. They have a device tracking software that is an extra module. It tells you which device is connected to which port on your switch. It's a module that you have to pay extra for, at… more»

What other advice do I have?

We don't have any plans to increase usage in the future, but we do have some additional plans on providing it as a service to other companies. That said, I don't think that we will be changing anytime soon. I have recommended this product more than once. It's one of the better products on the… more»

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the alarm that is set up to trigger based on bandwidth utilization. When we are alerted then we know that we have to look further into the issue.

How has it helped my organization?

This solution gives us a simple way to monitor traffic that is coming in and out. It shows me how much bandwidth is both inbound and outbound, and it is shown clearly on the dashboard.

What needs improvement?

This solution does not do a very good job when I am trying to look deeper into my internal network, in particular with respect to individual ports.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not have anything in place before implementing this solution.

What other advice do I have?

This was a good solution when we began using it a few years ago. However, now as the company is growing, I have more data lines coming in and I have more endpoints, I want to combine products. I'm looking for a single pane of glass… more»

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is remote access and the fact that there are multiple options to choose from. These include VNC (Virtual Network Computing), RPC (Remote Procedure Call), and Splashtop.

How has it helped my organization?

This solution has improved our organization because it saves time, in that I do not need to visit every workstation in order to update it. I can do everything remotely, including running PowerShell… more»

What needs improvement?

This pricing for this solution needs to be better. I would like to see integration with antivirus or other security endpoint solutions. There are only one or two solutions that they integrate with.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The cost is based on the number of nodes, so it is expensive when you have a lot of them.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use another solution prior to this one.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to anyone who is implementing this solution is to be well prepared. You need to know your network infrastructure before you start implementing. Otherwise, it will take longer than necessary… more»

What is most valuable?

The connectivity of the solution is very good. The solution is quite robust.

How has it helped my organization?

It helps us figure out how to fix problems faster than we were able to before.

What needs improvement?

My team has had a lot of issues with support. The solution should offering monitoring for the database and for the TC (traffic controller).

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We didn't previously use a different solution.

What other advice do I have?

We use the solution on a daily basis. I'd advise others that if they just implement the software with an engineer that knows how to handle the installation they should be okay. We've generally had a… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did try out some other software before we decided on SolarWinds, but I don't recall the names of the other companies.

All the features are very good. The monitoring of the equipment, the configuration manager, and the IP address monitoring are great.
