SolarWinds NPM Other Solutions Considered

There weren't any other options were evaluated. We saw SolarWinds and noted our other sister companies use that. We just went with it to be standardized within our entire conglomerate.

I have evaluated other solutions, such as PRTG Network Monitor and WhatsUp Gold. We choose SolarWinds NPM because it had better licensing and architectural options.

We evaluated Zabbix and Nagios but SolarWinds is better for enterprise organizations. Other solutions are on a smaller scale and only provide basic monitoring; SolarWinds has a better engine.

We also evaluated ManageEngine OpManager and AdRem NetCrunch before deciding to purchase SolarWinds NPM in conjunction with the SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) module.
View full review »We were required to assess alternatives, but I don’t recall the specifics. When implementing SAM in the last 2 years, we moved from Big Brother and evaluated Nagios.

My company's current customers plan to replace SolarWinds NPM with Fortinet FortiCloud.
In comparison to other tools in the market, SolarWinds NPM hasn't been upgraded yet. I believe SolarWinds NPM plans to upgrade itself in the future and have more features, like the ability to support other devices or vendors, like Arista, Juniper, Guardicore, or Akamai. In terms of the advantages provided by SolarWinds NPM, I would say that the solution is easy to use, easy to onboard, easy to set up, easy to delete, easy to configure, easy to get the report on a single interface, and one can also apply a filter to get what is required.
We considered Dotcom-Monitor, but we went with SolarWinds for financial reasons.
View full review »I find this solution to be better than others because we are familiar with it.

HP had a similar product that we looked at but it wasn't nearly as universal as SolarWinds products. HP has a product to monitor servers and a product to monitor networks, but they don't have one product that does both well, SolarWinds monitors everything very well.
View full review »We evaluated WhatsUp Gold and Cisco brand tools.
View full review »We are currently exploring New Relic as an alternative product. The Zoom monitoring issue is one of the reasons that we are looking at New Relic and willing to pay their higher price.

We evaluated:
- OpenNMS
- ScienceLogic EM7
- Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold
- A few others that either no longer exist or were consumed by other companies
I did a proof of concept with ManageEngine. The functionalities are similar, but the ManageEngine interface is way more user-friendly.

They will be putting NetScout on their network to look at some of the differences and to look at the pluses and minuses of each of the two tools.
View full review »We considered options from most major vendors. SolarWinds won out because of the low price-to-value ratio; and the immediate and long-term cost savings made by displacing other products.
View full review »We’ve evaluated PRTG, CA, SCOM, and Splunk.
View full review »Before choosing, I did an extensive evaluation against 9 other products. Most are listed elsewhere in this review. This was by far the most cost-effective solution that met all of our monitoring needs.
View full review »Before this solution, we evaluated IBM Tivoli and WhatsUp Gold.
View full review »Yes. We looked into Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2012 R2, What's Up Gold, ManageEngine, AppDynamics, NewRelic, and Nagios.

The competitors can be PRTG in combination with, for example, log monitoring features. There are lots in that space.
If you look at SolarWinds, it's a very traditional brand, and there are a couple of competitors who are far more modern, also in the layout. Some of the competitors have better visibility, and also have licenses more suitable for some customers.

PRTG is easier to use, but SolarWinds is more customizable. SolarWinds also has more features, but they are complicated to use.
We are just trying the demo. I am not going to recommend this to my company because PRTG is much easier. We're looking for something that is very easy to export the reports from the dashboard. SolarWinds is sort of complicated.

We are having some problems. Our network can't find the problem. We will probably go use Cisco Prime.
We have also considered switching to Zabbix due to its support and deployment.
Some solutions are open source and free.

We also use Microsoft Operation Manager SCOM. Microsoft is dedicated to monitoring servers, but it needs some improvement in network monitoring. SolarWinds is more appropriate.
We are also comparing SolarWinds NPM and Zabbix. Currently, we have SolarWinds NPM, but its license is about to expire. We need to see which product is suitable for our environment.

We were recommended SolarWinds by a friend so we tried it and purchased it. We did not evaluate other options.
View full review »New clients will sometimes ask, "Okay, so let's run through today's simulation, let's see how it works and then we will make a decision." They know I'm going to install it and then they'll evaluate it and find that they're happy. For me personally, I know SolarWinds is releasing new, major releases at least once, maybe twice, a year. I'm on the forum watching all the new features and releases, and adding my own input. I'm pretty much in the know about what's going to happen next, and I'm always anticipating starting working with new features. I don't go and explore anymore; I already know what's in there.
Obviously, the actual process of testing is very fulfilling, as well, especially after we've been communicating on the forum and suddenly it's all live and working. The forum is the number one place I go for my information.
View full review »I evaluated SolarWinds Network Performance Manager and compared it to WhatsUp Gold, PRTG, OpenNMS, InterMapper, ManageEngine, LanSweeper, Cacti, and FogLight.
View full review »Yes I was able to go through a whole bunch of options such as managed engine but I was not very impressed with the licensing scheme. Also most products were SAAS and we wanted independence and ownership over the product.
View full review »I was using other products so I did not evaluate, per se. But I knew the difference between other products and SolarWinds.

Before choosing SolarWinds NPM we evaluated other solutions such as Splunk and ScienceLogic. The flexibility and the overall breadth of different modules that SolarWinds has to offer were superior to the other solutions evaluated.

We compared it to Zabbix. You can do a lot of parameters in Zabbix, but you have to configure them all. Also, it is not as easy to install.
