The initial setup is straightforward. They have divided it into three categories: MacOS, Windows, and server. So, if you are installing it on Windows 10, you must download the Windows installer and select the Windows installer option. In Sophos Central, they have separated the installation files. The server-required files are separate, the client system files for Windows are separate, and there are separate files for MacOS.

The initial setup wasn’t that complicated. The interface wasn’t user-friendly compared to other brands. I had to establish the network from scratch, set up the environment, configure the devices, join the domain for group policy, and install the necessary software. That was the approach I followed during the implementation.

The deployment took 20 days for nearly 300 computers.

I rate the product's initial setup phase a nine out of ten, where ten means it was a very easy process.

The solution is deployed on a public cloud.

For endpoint installation, it takes some time, but for agent installation, it takes a day to deploy the product. As a server-based tool, the installation takes a day to complete.

During the deployment part, there are some restrictions as well as the need to sign up with the console in Sophos Central. There are multiple options provided by the product and our company has to follow the on-screen instructions provided by the solution. I am not in a position to convey all the details regarding the deployment process.

The initial setup is very easy. Customers choose the product because it has a user-friendly dashboard. It is not complicated. It is easy to understand. To deploy the tool, we install it in the client’s server and enable the policies they require, like USB filtering, URL filtering, and web control traffic. The customers have their own DLP methods. We enable it as per the requirements. Our service team is involved in the deployment process. It takes 40 to 60 minutes to deploy the tool. It is easy to maintain the product.

The setup is straightforward. If we're installing it locally on a computer that's just joined to the domain, it would require a script. Setting up the script is quite simple. Setting up, testing, and getting it right takes about half an hour. It works out of the box.

If we have to set up a computer that has not joined our domain, we must log on to the cloud portal and choose to protect the computer. We can download the file that we run on the computer. It's pretty straightforward. We don't need any external help. The deployment is seamless across our organization's endpoints.

A new device installation is very easy. During installation, when you download the installation file from the web, the registration works so well, but the installation takes a bit longer for each of the vendors. I don't know whether it is because of the internet connection. It looks like it is the web installer that takes longer. I don't know if others have experienced the same issue.

We also had a few challenges during migration. Because we were doing a migration of the site, we wanted just to maintain what we were doing before.

I have been using Sophos Intercept X for over two years, in the beginning, the initial setup was straightforward but because they do not fully support the Apple platform, or they're pretty slow at supporting the Apple platform, the latest version supporting Apple is a little bit cumbersome to use. You need to walk the user through the process with some specific instructions or help the user directly. It's not as easy as it used to be.

I would rate the implementation process of Sophos Intercept X a four out of five.

The setup is simple and straightforward. However, you must have at least an operating system that supports it, if not the most latest version of Windows. I don't mean XP or Vista, but something that is already supported, because Microsoft doesn't even support all of the operating systems. As a result, you won't be able to use it on Windows XP or Windows 7. It must be a current operating system, such as Mac, Linux, or Windows.

If you have a small environment, you need one person to maintain it. If you have a large environment, you need two or three. It really depends on when you want to complete it. If for example, you have a building and you want to build it in one year, you will need 20 to 40 people to maintain it.

If you have a building that you want to be built within 10 years, you can have two to maintain it. It all depends on the environment, the customer, and the deadline set for the project's completion.

Sophos Intercept X could improve on its setup process. They could make it easier to have a baseline set up for the system, or at least provide more understanding of what the baseline is when you first install it. This could be a matter of lack of training on my part, but it's difficult to receive training on solutions that are not Cisco. Cisco is the only vendor with classes or courses.

When we set it up, we made very few changes from the baseline setup, and mainly that's to allow other software to operate. Sometimes the endpoint security software interferes with your software that needs to be running in addition to the bad software. You have to set up and configure the software and the policies to allow for the software you want to operate.

Configuring Intercept X is generally straightforward and user-friendly. It is designed to be easy to understand and use. I would rate the easiness of the initial setup as an eight out of ten.

The deployment time for Intercept X varies depending on factors like network complexity and organizational policies. Typically, for around 100 users, it can be completed in a day or two. Maintenance is generally straightforward unless support assistance is required, which can sometimes be challenging to coordinate.

We had some initial problems with our deployment, and it was more around uninstalling Sophos Basic and installing Sophos Intercept X.

Its setup was rather complex because we support different clients, and the configuration of the PCs of each client is different. If every PC is the same, the initial setup might be straightforward, but we support over 30 different campaigns, which makes it challenging. We were able to deploy it for 2,000 or 3,000 agents, but it was not as seamless as we wanted it to be. It ended up taking four or five months.

On a scale from one to five, where one is complex and five is easy, I'd rate the initial setup at four. This is because sometimes you'll get a popup asking you to reboot, but actually, if you've installed it a few times, you know that you have to reboot it after the installation. So, there are a couple of popups that don't make it seamless.

If I've got 10 new workstations with a new client and I've sold them 10 licenses and one server, I will have that set up in the cloud as soon as I get the license. It will probably take half an hour to set that up. I can then start adding computers instantly. To install 10 computers, it would take about five hours.

Initial setup for the cloud is very straightforward because it's managed by the company. It's just a matter of downloading the agent and installing to your end point. The on-premise implementation is more difficult, particularly if you're not familiar with it but the support is very helpful. I believe there's a way to roll out without the need to visit individual users. I believe they integrate with an active directory, and then post from there. Deployment time depends on availability of the user's desktop or and/or laptop. If it's on premise, you can push that one, it would take less than 15 minutes. To deploy in a company would take less than a month.

I think the initial installation and setup were very straightforward.

Once the rollout started, we had to incorporate 1500 devices — and that is just the desktops alone. It probably took about two months. The amount of time it took was because of the scale of resources dedicated to onboarding the solution. It was not because of distribution.

The initial setup is probably straightforward but there are times when it could be difficult. We are about to do a project where we are going to have to replace a Symantec product. We will see how hard that is to do. The potential problems have more to do with a question of how difficult it is to remove Symantec completely than it is about installing Sophos. There is a tool from Sophos for doing a replacement. We had not used it before so we will get to see how well it works.

The deployment is quick. It just depends on the environment. If you have a lot of remote sites, that could take more time. If you got to replace something, you never know how hard it is going to be because of how another product sets down its roots. There is a point where you have to just do as well as you can and then deal with issues if any arise.

The initial setup can be challenging for those that come in blind with no prior knowledge of the solution. That said, we're pretty knowledgable, so we went in knowing the product and therefore we didn't really have trouble in that sense.

You need to make the deployment, and you need to put the agent in the workstation. That is the most difficult part of the solution. If the company is not centralized, the deployment of the solution is hard. That can be true for any product, actually. However, if you have some solution, for example, to make the deployment of different software for you, you can make the deployment easier. That way, you can centralize the configuration, and set the configuration for the complex platform.

For us, it took two weeks to a month to deploy the solution with the assistance of a software platform. However, that can vary according to the company and its size and environment.
