SSIS Initial Setup
Deploying SSIS is straightforward, similar to other Microsoft products. You simply deploy the SSIS file and configure parameters as needed.
The solution's setup was straightforward. It takes a day or two to complete the process. If you are good at development, the deployment process becomes easy. You only need a few resources to deploy the solution. I am handling deployment and maintenance all alone.
View full review »Installation is quite easy. There are some drivers and setting you may need to make, based on the sources or sinks you need. I am hoping these are more embedded in the install process, as I have not set up a server since 2015.

With SSIS, it is not difficult at all to set up. Many sources are there through which you can learn how to set up your SSIS. The documentation is great. With the help of documentation, it was very easy for me to set up.
Deploying a package would also not take a lot of time. It depends on what kind of package it is, however, it is pretty fast.

The initial setup is not difficult. However, when the volume increases, it slows down. It's a bit of an obsolete tech stack and is not very current.
You only need one person the setup and deploy the product.
View full review »The efficiency of the deployment and management tools of SSIS is a bit technical, but it is alright since our company's technical support has hands-on experience with it, and they can deal with the deployment part in a very minimal amount of time.
The product's deployment phase is easy.
To deploy the product, I followed the solution's online tutorial and downloaded the tool to configure it.
The initial setup is very easy. I'd rate it an eight out of ten in terms of ease of implementation.
The deployment itself only took a couple of hours.
The installation that comes with SQL just requires some tweaking with Visual Studio or something like that. We had some problems with maybe deploying the product from the local machine, however, in the end, we solved it.
We have three people handling the initial setup. All of us are DBAs.

SSIS implementation has been straightforward for us, using scheduled tools like Kubernetes for deployment and master packages in SSIS. It seamlessly integrates with Microsoft products and other databases like Oracle or Teradata. We haven't faced issues integrating with third-party solutions, and even with tools like Attunity, it has worked reliably for almost a decade without performance problems.
The first time I attempted to deploy the solution, it was a bit difficult. However, it gets easier with time.
I'd rate the ease of setup 6.5 out of ten in terms of ease of implementation.
I don't do much on the deployment side and, therefore, can't speak to how long it takes to actually deploy.
We have around eight people on the solution working on the deployment in total. Around 5 are database administrators and there are three developers.
View full review »The solution is very straightforward. It's not overly complex.
The package deployment takes some time. It depends on the size of the data which is being pulled in. For the normal setup, it hardly takes much time. For the most part, it is very fast.
View full review »The initial setup isn't too difficult, but it's not easy. Sometimes, you may need help from a database administrator to set up the SQL Server Integration Services. It can take almost a day to deploy.
A database administrator can deploy it alone. You may need another person to develop the packages and set up ETL, so it's you need about two or three people for deployment in all.

I've never had to install SSIS at an enterprise level, but the installation is straightforward for development purposes. It takes less than an hour. However, installing it at the enterprise level would require a lot more configuration, tuning, etc. I'll leave that to the experts.

How easy or difficult the setup is depends on the size of the process that we want to normalize. If it is a big ETL, it's not always that fast. We are considering changing to a different platform so that it's easier. For example, we are looking into SQL to have another kind of data exploration.
The first time we initially set it up, it was quite fast. The deployment of the integration services for the very first time without any process implemented took about a day.

The solution is straightforward and simple. It's not overly complex or difficult. It's actually quite easy for us to get everything up and running. We can finalize everything within a day. It doesn't take a lot of time to implement it.
One person is enough to deploy and maintain the solution. That said, it depends on an organization's planning strategy. It might not take a lot to do that kind of activity.

In the case of a separate server, opt for SSIS service installation instead of installing the SQL Server, and it will be pretty quick. You can have your server up and running within ten minutes.

It only took five minutes to deploy SSIS.
For maintenance, we rely on our platform team.
We will probably need one person for maintenance. Let's say it's only one person. But I'm not speaking on behalf of the entire company; I'm speaking on behalf of a single team of perhaps 1,000 people.

The initial setup is never a complex process because the interface is user-friendly. If you are working with complex situations, then it can get complicated. We have a DBA team to handle the deployment. We must follow a process to deploy, so we need to get approval whenever there is a change. It's not easy for us, but it's still good, and it doesn't take much time.

If you want to develop with Visual Studio then you have to install the data service add-ons afterward, so it is a bit cumbersome. Then, if you want to use the catalog on the database, with deployment there are often security issues and you have to get an SQL catalog up and running. This can also be a bit cumbersome.
I would say that it takes a day or two to deploy this solution in a new environment, and it can be completed by one or two people. A single developer may be sufficient to deploy and maintain the system.

The length of time required for deployment depends on how good your DBAs are. Some of them take quite a while because they have to install, configure, and then do some test runs. Then all of the permissions, etc, have to be taken care of. Some of these things are easy and some of them are difficult. I would say that it will take a least a week.
We have five people maintain this solution at the moment. We have the DBAs on standby before we do any sort of deployment to UAT or production.
