Technology is not a core skill of HR, and HR is having difficulty adapting to digitization. SAP has done something great by introducing a new enablement platform in the middle of last year. This platform allows us to transfer our skills to an HR information system environment so that we don't need to rely on certified consultants for all of our needs. A lot of the templates and transactions need to be maintained internally, and SAP's platform has given my team an advantage. My team was previously one HR administrator and two payroll administrators, and now I have a team of three people that support the implementation of SAP SuccessFactors from a business perspective. The enablement platform that SAP provided has given my team the knowledge to use the various functionalities. However, for a normal HR end user, the gap between where HR is and where it needs to be in terms of digitalization is very large. HR is struggling with this.

When I used SuccessFactors as a CHRO, I found that the platform helped build not only a unique signature experience for all our employees but also enabled greater transparency in the organization as we could better empower our employees, managers, and leaders all at once.

Processes that were tedious became simple, structured, standardized, and scalable. We were able to get visibility to all employees and enhance the quality of our talent management framework and mobility of talent within the organization.

Every aspect of SuccessFactors is important to our organization because all of our team members have a set of roles to perform and I can't compromise on anything when it comes to managing employees.

For example, I cannot compromise on the recruitment area, nor can I compromise on compensation and benefits, or training. These factors are equally important and SuccessFactors help to ensure that these areas are all accounted for and fully utilized.

Taken together, all the features that SuccessFactors provides are absolutely vital in order for our organization to function.

A suite of SuccessFactors Talent Management tools helps us in managing the entire employee journey. HR may utilize the recruiting tool to match external and internal talent to job openings. Employees can also use the app to look for work within the organization.

HR and managers can use the onboarding tool to help new employees prepare for their first day on the job, which can help them acclimate to the company culture and reduce anxiety.

HR and managers can use the succession and development tool to create career paths and staff development plans. When combined with the learning tool, these development objectives can help employees gain the skills they need to advance their careers within the company.

SuccessFactors has a really solid process for talent management, starting with Goal Management which helps managers and employees build smart goals aligned with business goals. Unique Continues performance management provides another tool for managers to facilitate communication between employees and managers and ensure having high alignment between employees and managers. This helps to have effective performance and better optimize performance process. CPM helps managers to have an accurate picture of their employee's performance to evaluate employee performance all year daily.

From the moment you are evaluating the candidate through recruitment, the process related to review employee performance using Job profile builder will help to have a connecting process between Recruitment and performance.

Having an LMS and Compensation module helps you to have the complete process, where you can use LMS learning to improve weaknesses and reward top performers using compensation.

The conceptual structure of Core HR enables us to build whatever we need when it comes to the data that we need to collect from our employees. Prior to implementing SuccessFactors, we had nowhere to go for a single snapshot of our entire company. Today, we have our entire North America, Europe and Hong Kong businesses in the system and therefore easily accessible.

SuccessFactors allows us to have an online performance/review process that is consistent across the organization.

SuccessFactors has a workflow/approval process in place to ensure that updates are made/approved by the official ‘manager’ and 2nd level ‘manager’ for that associate. Prior, everything was done on paper and faxed to payroll for entry into the legacy JDE system.

All department/store leads now have the ability to see employee information for those reporting through them (initial level and cascaded down).

All department/store leads now have the ability to make change requests for anyone in their reporting tree without having to fill out a form and faxing to payroll.

The entire company now has a tool to view basic information (including associate photos) on their fellow associates.

We can design a “quick & dirty solution” or “very complex services”, we can manage small enterprise projects (in our experience 150 users) as the big organization (in our experience 40000 users), all with the same solution. This is a big saving of time, costs, and team usage optimization.
