Symantec Proxy Room for Improvement

The solution's databases are long, and their support is very fast. At times, certain areas are lacking in the policy manager. It would be great if we could directly control those URLs in the policy manager through the US.

At the time of policy tracing, it is necessary to determine where the policies created by Blue Coat for the solution are being dropped. We should be able to get the exact results for this. Also, it would be great to have an online tool that could provide us with confidence during encryption and decryption processes without needing different tools. This tool could help us identify which problems to manipulate and where to allow manipulation. Such additions will be great for us.

We have been experiencing issues with file processing and network stability, particularly when dealing with requests for proxy files or fax networks. Improvements in log availability would greatly enhance its overall effectiveness.

The solution must add a new category for WebSocket data. It must provide a new category for internet streams currently categorized as Technology/Internet. They're independent streams. The AV engine can't scan them. They get stuck. The tool’s reporting features must be improved.

The traffic filtering could improve. Our firewall traffic is limited. Additionally, it would be helpful if there was a dashboard and reporting feature.

The product must be made more simple. The solution is quite complex. Though the complexity gives us more control, some complexity is unnecessary. The product shifted from Java recently, which complicated the solution a bit.

Marketing needs improvement in Symantec Proxy, as it needs to catch up in sales here in the Asia Pacific region. It has always been a leader, but after Broadcom acquired it, there's been a decrease in sales.

Symantec Proxy licensing renewal also needs improvement.

The solution can be improved by making the deployment much more user-friendly. The deployment methodologies really need to be looked at, and there needs to be authentication for the user so the user has to authenticate before they get onto the internet as such so we know and can track that this particular user is for example going to skynews.com or facebook.com or whatever that URL is.

One area for improvement in Symantec is the lack of a reporting server or dashboard integration with SIM. Many clients require this integration, but it is currently not possible.

Additionally, Symantec lacks dashboards based on their product, and reporting is also not available. To improve this, additional servers or features for reports and dashboards would be necessary.

Prior to the Broadcom purchase, every appliance was application based, but now they have one ISG device and on top of it multiple applications are running. It has a single point of failure. If your device goes down, all of the applications would be down.

The deployment is quite difficult.

Their support is not as per the standard, and that makes it quite difficult to deploy the product. It needs very high expertise to deploy the product line.

They're not addressing issues in a timely manner. They seem to be continuously backsliding.

It is an expensive product.

Activating the SSL inspection is one of the challenges. We are currently moving to the O365 cloud, and one of the challenges is the performance when all of our users are connected to O365 by a proxy.
