Talend Open Studio Other Advice

Aymen ANNOUN - PeerSpot reviewer

Maintenance is required not because of Talend, so there is a team to help each client adapt to the ETL account and change the data source.

There is a team of two members for handling the solution's maintenance of our clients. It is not that there is always a change in the data source, but when it happens, our clients contact us and ask us to edit the ETL according to the changes.

I would recommend the solution to those planning to use it.

When comparing Talend Open Studio, I saw many other products with better documentation and UI that are more scalable.

I rate the solution a seven and a half to eight out of ten.

We can only have one user in the free version. We are now wondering whether we should go for the enterprise version or switch to a different platform, like the HANA platform, HANA cloud, or Datasphere. Or another platform called Encarta. There are multiple technologies we are exploring.

It's a good tool overall, but that depends on whether you have the enterprise version. The free version is not for a team in which you have more than one member. In this case, you have to go for the enterprise version, which is a bit expensive.

Likewise, you do not get support with the free version, so you won't speak with tech support. There is, however, a community with a knowledge base in forums.

You also get the scheduler, the deployment, and everything with the enterprise version. You could deploy the solution on the server and then schedule the jobs. Likewise, you get logging and an audit trail of your jobs. Currently, we maintain these jobs manually.

They should make purchasing the servers for the enterprise version a one-time payment, where you buy the server, and that should be it. The yearly cost is what makes Talend not a great tool.

Talend is fine if you are only using it for the ETL tools. However, there are other options, such as SSIS, Informatica, and SAP Data Services, which are not promising for Talend Open Studio. Some things are easier with other tools. Talend is logical, but a few things are not very straightforward. If there is an option to choose from other ETL tools, I would rate Informatica number one, in second place, maybe SSIS, and then maybe Talend.

If Talend Open Studio is cheaper than other solutions, you can go for it.

I would recommend other people looking into this solution to pay attention to the learning curve and the documentation, which is the solution's strong suit. The Talend academy is a good place to start.

I would rate this solution as a whole a nine, on a scale from one to 10, with one being the worst and 10 being the best.

A scenario where Talend Open Studio has streamlined our company's ETL processes stems from the fact that it helps in areas like performing a CROSS JOIN of data between an ERP tool and a solution for financial data.

In Talend Open Studio, the features I have found to be the most beneficial for our company's data workflows stem from the Talend Data Integration, Talend Management Console, and the ability to access Talend Identity and Access Management.

Speaking about how Talend Open Studio's user interface or design impacted secure data integration processes, I would say that its users don't have access to areas like Talend Data Stewardship. The users of the product in our company can just consume the data that is loaded in the data warehouse.

I recommend the product to those who plan to use it.

I recommend the product to those who plan to use it. I would push Talend Data Integration over Talend Open Studio since the latter is no longer supported. I feel that Talend Data Integration can help users follow dataflow better.

I have no idea whether the scalability feature of the product supports my company's business growth.

Talend Open Studio is easy to use.

Talend Open Studio isn't supported anymore. The difficulty stems from the fact that my organization pushed Talend Open Studio for a lot of small companies that don't have extra IT services. All the big companies use SQL Server or SQL Server Integration Services. It becomes difficult for companies to choose between Talend and SQL Server Integration Services before considering the prices.

I rate the overall solution a nine out of ten.

Some of my comments are based on my limited understanding of the tool. Please do due diligence before selecting the tool. I recommend a POC over 1-2 months on shortlisted tools, before finalizing one.

I am an IT Consultant. I use it currently in my job. I'm providing services to a company in Australia, using Talend.

I would advise others to use the Studio. If you have to pay for some license to use the key parallelize component, it's a good idea to do it. However, don't use the TAC. Use the other orchestration services like Control-M or AWS functions such as AWS Lambda. Don't use the TAC. The TAC is really ugly.

Overall, I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. I'd rate it higher, however, the TAC is unreliable. It's a big part of the solution, and, while I do really appreciate Talend Studio and the ability to link into a producer to make a Java code, which is ugly, I don't care because the job is done anyway. The fact that the orchestration is creating execution plans, from the TAC it's fine. However, when the running of the execution plan, sometimes there are issues. The job remains stuck on the actual server. I've had a lot of issues with TAC.

The cost involved is high, we need to select which solution to use, the Open Studio version or the enterprise version. If there is scope for SAP or some paid connectors, we can go with the enterprise version, or the Open Studio version is capable enough to manage the data integration part.

I rate Talend Open Studio an eight out of ten.

On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate this solution as an eight out of ten. To give the product a higher score they would have to improve several things. This would start with improving technical support.

As far as advice that I have for people considering this solution, I think that this is a very good product which will be able to resolve most peoples' business needs. I recommend it for use depending on your business needs and situation.

I would say it is a good platform. Give it a start to work on. It actually handles the freshers very nicely. The only drawback as a fresher is lacking the experience which makes it difficult to understand the error message that gets generated on the execution of the job, not in the file. That has been tricky. Because you need to have experience to understand why that error appears in the execution of the job. Otherwise, it's a good platform to have a start on.

On a scale of one to ten, I would give Talend Open Studio an 8 to 9. It would be 9 if they added the scheduling of multiple processes. Without that, it is an 8.

We have a partnership agreement with Talend.

While I mostly use the on-prem deployment, for new opportunities, I'm beginning to move towards the cloud.

I would recommend this solution. I don't have an opinion about Talend in a big data environment, however. For example, we've got an Azure kind of environment. I don't have a clear idea if it is the best choice for those particular situations.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. If it had better integration to ensure it was up to a government's required quality levels, I'd give it higher marks.

I rate Talend Open Studion eight out of 10. Talend can do everything that you want to do, but to do the more complex tasks, you need extensive knowledge of IT processes. You need to know what you're doing or you won't' be able to do anything in Talend.

We are the solution provider. We are the company that implements such solutions as Talend. We are not the user of the solutions themselves necessarily. We are the reseller as well as implementation partners and the implementing partner of Talend. We have resources who work on these tools and who implement solutions for our customers.

The version of the solution we use varies from client to client, especially for Talend. They have multiple products, including Talend Data Management and Talend's Data Integration Pipeline. A lot of our customers are using the open-source version of Talend. Some are using the licensed version. From those, some are using it for the data stewardship.

We deploy both cloud and on-premises models as required.

Overall, we've been happy with the product. From a data management perspective, the data preparation, data stewardship and the other features that Talend has, including the MDM, are all extremely important for today's organization.

Overall, I would rate the solution at a seven out of ten.

I would rate it a ten out of ten. It's a lot easier to start. You can find a lot of information on the internet. It's a big community. They offer great solutions, which you can use with your use case. There are many different version of this solution that fits into the customer's needs. We have supplied versions best suited for data management, data integration, pipeline and many others. The version varies from customer to customer and some are using the Open Source Talend. Some are using the licensed version and others for the data stewardship.

For those wanting to purchase this solution, there are some important things to consider. This solution has better multiple pre-built connectors than competitors, which is good for any client or any business, because today, in most of the cases, they are dealing with multiple data sources from multiple technologies. Data integration from multiple data sources, I find Talend is extremely helpful.

The features in this solution are very important for today's organization.
