I also have experience with Power BI. Power BI has more features, but they don't have inbuilt reporting. Jasper has inbuilt reporting and the ability to have Ad Hoc view or Ad Hoc reports.
In Power BI, we're supposed to connect to the data sources, and then get a query, some gateways, or APIs. We're only able to input the data sets after that, or we need to get Excel data into Power BI as Microsoft supports it, or we need to go to Azure and get the data sets.
We also use Tableau. It has some customizations. On the higher level, we have SAS Analytics, which has a lot of features, but they have their own language. We need to get familiar with the SAS online version to create the data and visuals. It's a licensed version, not open source.

We previously used LAMP with JFree for canned reports but a customer wanted to create their own reports. We evaluated different BI tools in the market and chose the solution based on price and fit to our environment's in-house technology stack.
The solution was quite cheap at the time. It helped a lot because of its flexibility in creating Java reports via JasperReport Writer to get the desired results. We also used Scriptlet to customize features not present in the JasperReport Library and added them to our reports.
View full review »I have previously used Oracle, although I would say that TIBCO Jaspersoft does not have any major advantages.

We use Oracle for analytics.
View full review »In 2015, we evaluated many tools. When we came to know TIBCO Jaspersoft, we felt it was the most appropriate solution that met our needs.
We chose TIBCO because of the ability to drag and drop all the segments into detailed segments.
Also, we could easily incorporate and integrate the tool with our applications.

TIBCO Jaspersoft is not as powerful as other tools, like Power BI. In the past, I used SSRS, but TIBCO Jaspersoft is more powerful than SAP Crystal Reports.
We were going to the AWS cloud. Jaspersoft was the only tool which understood the licensing part of the cloud. The easy handling of the row-level security made me decide to choose it.
View full review »Previously, we were using SAP Crystal Reports. However, it was already an obsolete version.
View full review »We did not use a previous solution.
View full review »We used a home-grown reporting tool that lacked many of the functionalities we needed. We evaluated multiple vendors before selecting Jaspersoft.
View full review »We were not using any other solution. We were doing things more manually. Jaspersoft was our first try.
View full review »We did not previously use anything else.

Prior to Jasperserver, we did use a different solution and decided to switch due to higher licensing costs.
View full review »Previously, we used Microsoft reports and switched due to high licensing costs. Also, the older versions for which we had a license for, were not able to effectively manage memory consumption on the client side.
View full review »No previous solution was used.
View full review »Previously, I used SAP BusinessObjects. License costs was the reason for the switch.
