We've had Tintri for so long that it is hard for me to compare total cost of ownership. But I would think the TCO would be less due to lower administrative costs, less downtime, and the overall ease of management.

When we were buying it originally, the price of Fujitsu, Hitachi, Nimble, and Tintri were all very close to one another in a competitive bid environment. The real cost and savings are going to be the administrative and management costs, which become very negligible in comparison to what you were having to do with a traditional LUN, iSCSI fiber-channel solution.

Server rentals for only one customer covered the entire cost of the box, so the rental income for everybody else we have hosted for the past seven years has been profit. VMstore has reduced our overall business costs in terms of time and power. VMstore is much more efficient and easy to manage, enabling us to decommission seven other individual servers, which has helped us reduce our power usage.

The return on investment for our organization has been that we're able to deliver what we say we will to a customer. We're able to offset the projected OpEx expenses of other vendors. The ROI for us is based on customer value and customer satisfaction. Storage has never been a detractor on our side in terms of customer value. Storage has never been the root cause or smoking gun for any problems that a customer may have asked us to look into.

The ROI for us is clear. We're able to deliver performance at a predictable price point with a predictable administrative and operating model. We really haven't looked into any other vendor in the last couple of years because of that.

We're able to offer competitive managed services and innovation services to our customers. Some of that is built on Tintri, and some of it is knowing the predictability of Tintri and the scaling model. It allows us to then invest in other areas of our business as well. If we had a less predictable scaling or OpEx model, it would introduce a lot of questions for us about whether we should be investing in these areas or putting these dollars towards storage vendor X or management person Y. The predictability, reliability, and performance of Tintri have enabled us to invest in other areas of our business without concern.

We have seen an ROI. It's worth the money.

It has helped to reduce our total cost of ownership, but I don't have the metrics. We use it heavily in our automation platforms.

We've achieved significant time savings by not having to address malfunctioning components, allowing us to focus on developing new features for our VMstore. We eliminated the need to seek out small storage solutions through other vendors.

It's hard to pinpoint the ROI, but the devices have been worth every penny spent.

We plan to be using the Tintri system over 5 years, but we expect our ROI within 1-2 years based on lower admin overheads and quicker troubleshooting of issues.

How do you value a trouble free solution that works and provides metrics you cannot get anywhere else?

ROI is hard to quantify, but we gained visibility and optimization of the VM execution environment, freed up more-valuable resources (equipment and people) and improved reliability and stability of the VM execution environments.

We are able to fully patch our servers and run more VMs without having to purchase additional storage. Our ROI after switching to Tintri and Hyper-V is in the $40-$60K range.

At this moment, the ROI is really good for us. We bought additional VMStores in the first year for additional storage space and DR site. We are looking to add more and more in the following year.

TBD, but had we purchased the Tintri prior to spending money on NetApp there would have been a huge cost savings.

We anticipate that our ROI will be around three years.

Our ROI is in the time saved on our troubleshooting. Also, management hours have been massively reduced as monitoring and maintaining the Tintri have almost gone down to zero!

As it's been under a year since we initially implemented, it's too soon to determine our ROI. But it looks good so far going forward.

We have not calculated this. It is a difficult one to calculate as well, as it has saved man hours for both support and developers in troubleshooting storage I/O issues. It has also allowed us to actually complete upgrades that were failing on our traditional storage arrays because of time-outs when accessing the disk. So without Tintri, we would not have been able to perform these upgrades.
