Trend Micro Deep Discovery Initial Setup

Subhendu Dhar - PeerSpot reviewer

You will need a team of engineers who know the ins and outs of the solution or a solution similar to Deep Discovery.

It is not a plug-and-play solution. A lot of fine-tuning is required when doing the installation. We faced a lot of problems when installing the solution's data centers. A lot of the servers and applications stopped working. We then needed to do a lot of fine-tuning and understand why the solution was not properly working. When the application does not work properly, the security is down.

We do the maintenance for our customers and five to six people are required. We have a team of engineers who maintain and remotely manage the solution for our customers.

The tool’s setup needs to be monitored on a daily or weekly basis. The initial setup took two to four hours to complete. The product’s integration also takes one hour to complete since we need to confirm whether the scanning is happening properly.

I rate the product's initial setup phase an eight or nine on a scale of one to ten, where one is a difficult setup phase, and ten is an easy setup phase. The product's initial setup phase was not difficult.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

The solution is easy to implement. It's very straightforward. We just deploy the machine. We plug in all the sniffing ports. Then we added another dirty line for the sandboxing, that's it. We're able to get logs from it with no problem.

For Deep Discovery, the deployment took around one to two weeks.

The solution's initial setup is not complex, but you must have training or a certified engineer to do it.

I rate Deep Discovery seven out of 10 for ease of setup. I wouldn't necessarily say that the deployment is hard, but there are many external factors that might determine whether the deployment goes smoothly. Overall, it's straightforward, but it's not the easiest product to install. It isn't a "next, next, finish" installation. One person is enough to implement Deep Discovery, but you need someone from the network and applications team to deploy the entire project.

The installation was done by a Trend Micro implementation partner. It took about one or two weeks.

For deployment and maintenance, we have a team of two engineers and a few managers.

The initial setup is straightforward. One person is enough for it.

An MSP company creates customer accounts from Trend Micro's MSP portal. Then, the customer gets the key. After that, they can log in to the Trend Micro portal. They will see the agent to be downloaded for Windows and Linux. It takes about two or three minutes to deploy.

The solution doesn't have a very common setup. The initial implementation is a bit different. However, anyone can handle it as long as they review the necessary documentation. They just need to read the manual, and then they can handle the implementation. I would suggest it has a medium level of difficulty.

For us, deployment took about three days. That includes configuring the solution as well.

The initial setup is at a moderate level of difficulty. However, we are qualified and for somebody quite new to the solution it could be more difficult. It is not usual for the end-user to start the process themselves. Usually, they are assisted with a partner or with Trend Micro themself. It is not a matter of how complex the solution is, but how much experience they have with the setup.

I believe it was straightforward to set up because we haven't had something similar to it. There was no interference, but everything just went more smoothly than expected from day one of implementation by IT. We faced some issues in between in regards to certain aspects of sandboxing for the exchange. That was because of certain ways that software was interrupting emails from somewhere inside. They helped customize some hotfixes and inserted methods into the program just for us to be able to support it. There were issues that we faced in between, but the support team from Trend Micro did their best to customize, make changes, and support us to help us fix these issues.

The solution is extremely easy to install. It's not overly complex or difficult to set it up. A company shouldn't have an issue with the initial setup.

The deployment was pretty fast and only took us about two hours or so. You can get it up and running pretty quickly.

The initial setup can be simple, and at times it can be complex when changing the solution.

It is less than a week to deploy Trend Micro, but it can change per the solution type.

For some solutions, it can take a week, and for others solutions with complex projects, it can take a month.
