Ubiquiti UniFi Switches Other Advice

I would give Ubiquiti UniFi Switches a rate of Nine on a scale of ten. I just really do like them. Having programmable voltages is fabulous on the ports. Nobody's got programmable voltages on the ports. Ubiquiti have to be because of the gear, but it makes it really slick. That's one place where the GUI is kind of cool, is that you can toggle a port on and off. You can toggle a group of ports off. You can say, "Hey, kill my cameras." It toggles all my cameras for me and bring them back online.

To those planning to use the product, I would suggest they use SFP+ ports.

Ubiquiti UniFi Switches is a simple and reliable tool that is costly.

Overall, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

I've used Ubiquiti's layer two switches. They have an enterprise version layer three that I've not gotten my hands on yet.

The same people who set up the solution are needed to monitor it. It doesn't require a lot of maintenance once they're up and running.

Overall, I rate Ubiquiti UniFi Switches a nine out of ten.

I would rate this solution 8 out of 10.

Cisco might be just one point higher, but twice as expensive. If you really want to save money, then you're getting down into the quality of five or six when you're talking about D-Link and Netgear.

Most of the time I'm going to go with the Pro switches - the PoE 48 port switches, or, if it's a smaller branch office and they only have a few users, I do the 24 ports. I use the long-range Wifi 6 ones, or the short, the regular Wifi 6 ones, which they call the Wifi 6 Light, as well.

Some of the time, depending upon the aesthetic, or the type of office, they don't want to put anything on the wall or in the ceiling. Therefore, I put there what they call the APUI. It's not the Wifi 6, however, it's pretty good. I'm trying to stick with Wifi 6 as I'm getting the best throughput pretty much throughout whenever I use it. There's an access point called the Access Point Flex HD which is the one I really like.

I'm neither a reseller or a partner with Ubiquiti. When I represent my clients, I give the clients some options. Sometimes they say, "We want to go with Ubiquiti." Or they want to go with Meraki. I don't make money on the sale of the equipment for the simple reason I don't want to be connected to one vendor. If I represent that vendor, that means I'm going to basically push that vendor. I don't want to do that. I want to give the client the best solution for them.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

The product improved our company's network performance, considering the web interface and the cloud management side that the tool provides, which allows us to keep track and have a glance at the power usage of various switches, including PoE switches and the other switches that fall under Ubiquiti. In our company, the tool allows us to see the power delivery of the switches from different ports across multiple units. The tour also allows our company to manage any drop in the performance of the switches and to see if there is any power drainage in the switches. In our company, the product allows us to look at these switches that need rebooting. You can get a combined interface of the switches and access points on the same portal, allowing you to get a better overview of your network.

The most valuable aspect of the product for network management stems from the web interface that the solution provides, along with the ability it provides to help users with the quick management of what goes on in their networks while being able to see the performance offered by each port. The product also helps users to see the speed and the connections on the ports in their environment. The cloud management area helps users to see and provide a visual overview of the number of switches and ports in their environments.

The PoE capability of the product has impacted our company's deployment of devices in a good way since it allows you to see which port has been used while being able to see what needs to be delivered and what are the power requirements. The product provides information if our company is low on power or over-utilizing switches.

Our company's experience with the interface and configuration tools provided by the product has been good since the solution provides visibility and is easy to use. With the product, you can do the SSH command line and use the visual GUI offered by the tool, which makes it an overall handy solution to use.

I recommend the product to those who plan to use it. The product is straightforward, easy to use, and fairly reliable.

I rate the overall tool a seven out of ten.

I really can't give any advice, other than, "Hey, the stuff is good, it just runs." It's so intuitive as far as how you configure and manage the switches.

What I would like to know better is for Ubiquiti, what is their strategy? Where are they going in the future? If I'm going to make an investment of buying these things, I would like to know more about what their strategy is in their product designs, when they're going to phase something out, and what they are going to replace it with.

It's not so much about hardware, but more about the compatibility going forward. Right now I realize that there are supply chain problems and things, but I don't know where those guys are going. They're definitely short on products or something because it's hard to get their products these days.

Ubiquiti's website could be a little bit better about explaining where they're going with network and surveillance products. I think they're coming out with some new things, but is the new stuff backward compatible with their old products? I don't know.

I hardly ever give anybody a ten out of ten, but I would give this solution a nine and a half. They're really good, and they just run.

We are focused on open software and manufacturer-independent solutions, so Ubiquiti fits our strategy well because they operate on the Linux operating system.

We have had no problems where this product did not do what it was supposed to do, either from the hardware side or the software side.

This is a solution that I recommend for normal operations. The suitability of these switches depends on what you want to do, what your tasks are, and what the application is. Ubiquiti is not always the manufacturer of choice. If you need really high-speed networks or have special requirements then it is important to test things out in the lab beforehand.

I have a lot of experience with different switches that are on the market and my favorite are those by Ubiquiti. They are affordable, they do what they should do, they are open, and you don't have to pay extra for support.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

My advice to others is Ubiquiti UniFi Switches is a good technique if you want to run it in a small business, where your major concern is not security. If you're not dealing with a data-sensitive organization, that deals in transactions, such as a bank, it's a good choice.

If you use SSP switches they go up to about 10GB per second which is fast on the network. You can use the switches on the core network. However, the only issue is the security aspect of it, you need to invest in something with higher-end security if you're dealing with an enterprise network, where you need proper data protection and user protection.

I rate Ubiquiti UniFi Switches a seven out of ten.

Something people need to look out for is the cost of cloud management. For us, that's been handled externally at the moment, so we're not actually paying for that directly. It's something people should consider with Ubiquiti.

Ubiquiti may be about to or has already discontinued its Edge product line. They have upgraded their switches and routers to replace them. I don't have any of those, so I'm not familiar with them. I am not really sure, and I could be wrong about it discontinuing. I just saw some comments on some of the forums about this possibly happening.

It is somewhat dependent on the class. When compared to what I call home consumers, it is far superior because it has more capabilities. However, if I were to compare it to other commercial grades, such as Cisco and some of the others, I would rate Ubiquiti UniFi Switches a seven out of ten.

We're just customers. We like using the solution. We didn't want to change horses in midstream, even though a lot of people have attempted to convince us to do so.

We try to use the latest version of the solution. We update the firmware on a regular basis and so most of the time, it's maybe one version behind at the most.

We're going to basically start some life cycle management too. We're using the solution on-premise with a cloud key.

I would advise other users to take training before transitioning from the physical. You can get pretty lost in the process. Take any training you can on the system so that you understand it before you begin.

I had a friend who was Cisco certified. He taught IT and he wasn't aware of Ubiquiti and I showed it to him and he said, ''Wow, this is easy.'' It is also very powerful, they didn't skim. The only thing that I have concerns about and everyone does is cybersecurity. Especially since the pandemic hit, there's a lot of activity on the web and there's a lot of malicious stuff going on, and people are looking for the antidote.

For me, the biggest lesson I took from working with this solution has to do with understanding the product and planning. Don't go in cold and try and, you know, find the fit for a job. If it's an emergency that's one thing, however, the better you plan, the better result you're going to have.

On a scale from one to ten, it's a high 8. I don't really see any major glaring issues other than the support. They do make made a hardened version of the product for harsh environments. It's been all-around a pretty positive experience.

In most cases, we advocate for an end-to-end Ubiquiti product solution. This includes using UniFi switches for various purposes, such as wireless controllers, PoE switches, and non-PoE switches.

The tool's product lines are good. The management tools, including the web app and mobile application, are easy to use. With them, I can support clients remotely and troubleshoot issues. Checking equipment statistics is simple. This flexibility is great for helping third-party clients.

Once installed, it is an "install and forget" device, requiring minimal attention or troubleshooting.

I rate the overall product a nine out of ten. I recommend it. Select the model that fits your customer or client requirements, and you're ready.

I am involved in the tool's design, implementation, and support.

My advice for anybody who is looking into implementing this product is to go ahead and buy it. This is a good switch; the functionality is there and the design is nice too. I think that it's a good buy.

So far, this product has had what we've needed. Even though I'm an engineer, I have not done a deep dive into this switch. As such, I haven't paid so much attention to it or the initial setup, so I'm not sure that if I am missing anything or not.

Other than the configuration problems, I haven't had any issues.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

I've done point to point setups, internet setups, and I've worked with Ubiquiti edge routers and edge switches including UniFi routers, UniFi switches and WAPs. I've worked with all aspects of Ubiquiti. They're a great product and they work well, it's just difficult to get hold of switches now with the chip shortage, but if you're going to be doing projects with a lot of clients who will use Ubiquiti switches, my recommendation is to buy a couple of extra switches and have them in stock.

I rate this product a nine out of 10.

I am exploring the possibility of using our Ubiquiti switch as an external gateway but I'm not sure whether I want a gateway in the cloud, or what kind of gateway exactly, so this is something to be decided later.

My advice to anybody who is considering this solution is that you really need to look at the risk profile. Also, I don't think that it is necessarily scalable because I think that I'm on the edge of the limit of what we can use it for. However, there may be something else coming that will assist with this.
