We piloted with CentOS and RedHat, however, ultimately landed on Ubuntu as it was quickly rising in popularity and has become one of the most widely used in the world.

Ubuntu Linux is reliable, has easy package management and is easy to upgrade from one version to the next. Windows can not offer that. Ubuntu's deployments are easy with a very reliable machine, which Windows has shown that they can't do.

When I started using it initially, it had better accessibility and speed. I have a low-end laptop with an AMD processor that doesn't work well with Windows. So, I chose Ubuntu Linux as it works efficiently on that device too.

There are those who prefer Windows for its UI features, but I am not one of them.

When it comes to the stability of Ubuntu Linux versus that of Windows, the former, in respect of developer machines, is less energy consuming, which translates into a longer shelf life.

We prefer both Mac and Unix.

The main advantage of Unix is that it's free.

Windows Unix and Ubuntu provide a free license and one need just pay for the hardware. Mac is costly. Ubuntu provides a cheaper and better option.

However, the price criteria is not why we use Ubuntu Linux, but because it is scalable, stable and developer-friendly.

Many other Linux distros were selected for testing, but Debian core was very stable. However, the Debian distro itself was very annoying, missing many basic packages, and had little to no support for template deployment in VMware vCenter 5.5 to current.

I also like Red Hat, CentOS and Fedora; however, upgrading to latest releases without reinstalling the complete OS seems only to be painless with Ubuntu (please correct me if I am wrong, maybe it always went well for you?).
