vCloud Director Stability

Tim Abboud - PeerSpot reviewer
Key Account Manager at a computer software company with 10,001+ employees

Initially, I would rate the stability a three out of ten because we faced some complex stability issues initially. I had a lot of issues at first, making me think the product wasn't as stable as advertised.

Now, it is more stable. I would rate the stability an eight out of ten.

Initially, stability was an issue. However, over the past two to three years, the platform has significantly improved in stability. Both our team and our customers now experience consistent stability and reliability.

I would rate the stability a seven out of ten. We don't have many issues related to the software. It's more on the hardware side.

The stability is good but not excellent because of the interoperability between different components of VMware products, which form a private cloud. The interoperability needs to be improved between the different components of the private cloud.

Stability has been great. We have had very minor problems with it when we've been upgrading, but VMware has always stepped in. They have been able to fix everything for us. It's a fantastic product.

Every quarter or after every quarter, they release new versions and new upgrades. If we don't do the new upgrades, it causes stability issues.

We don't have any issues with stability.

With our license, when we want to expand and connect vCloud with the billing systems you have to pay more.

It's your choice if you want to pay more for a license because the billing system is separate but you have to pay more. For example, if you have the Python team to develop the system, you can use OpenStack and you pay less than wit the vCloud system.

We don't have any issue but when we want to extend the system, we have the problem with the license and so we have to pay more. It's better to use the other solution.

Generally, it's quite stable. We don't have issues where the Director doesn't work. However, sometimes the vCloud Director cannot finish some operations for some reason. We'll need to try the operation twice or three times, redeploy, and do other steps. It could use some improvement. It would be better if it was a click and go.

Stability in solutions is fantastic. In the life cycles that we've had all the products, we've maybe had some hiccups here and there only on the hardware side. Of course, within any large enterprise environment, there's always some hiccups but even with those the HA failures that we've had, the recovery time within the application platforms has been fantastic and that's been reported up to the CIO and up to the CEO of the company. They have visibility to that and that's why they love the product features of vSphere.

We’ve already deployed three-tiered applications with just a push of a button to deploy from dev to staging to production.

In regards to stability, this gives you more control yet takes out the human element. There’s consistency that’s set in the script and then we can make small changes as we grow.
