I'm not ready to answer that because we didn't scale it out or scale it up because we just started working with Veeam Backup & Replication. But our topology will be really easy to scale up. It actually doesn't depend on Veeam itself. It depends more on the storage systems where we're storing their backups or network capacity and not on Veeam.
There were two guys from my system IT teams and one from the integrator side managing the Veeam infrastructure, but anybody in the system IT team can use it. We use it for the user restoration process or adding systems to the backup. We automated the whole process of adding the system to the backup so we don't need to do that manually, but anybody can access the system and do what it can do according to their permissions.
I think we're using only about 50% of the features. There is a lot of functionality we've still not used so we are planning to increase our usage.
It scales out easily. The only challenge is that as compared to some of the other products, it is a little bit more difficult to do things when you're dealing with the public cloud. Other products integrate a little easier. Veeam has not gotten there a hundred percent. You've got to deploy additional infrastructure out in the public cloud. So, on a one to five, it is a three. It is a little bit more difficult, but it is scalable.
We have hundreds of customers who are utilizing Veeam. They are any type or range of engineers, IT directors, and IT managers. There is a whole different range of individuals who are supporting backup environments running Veeam.
There are probably plans for increased usage. A lot of it comes down to the requirements of our customers.

I've recently tried using version 12. Although I haven't used it for long, I find it nice. I'm currently using it for one of our main offices at the HQ. It hasn't been fully deployed yet, but we're considering deploying it before the end of the year. The plan is to scale it within our HQ infrastructure because that's where we have the highest workload and need more information about different features available in version 12.

It is scalable. What they definitely don't recommend is running it off a virtual machine rather than its own physical machine, but then we have some replication servers that we use for VM. So, the actual Veeam installation is set up on a physical Dell server, and then it is almost like they are sub engines. You would use these other processes to kick off the replication for whatever you want to be replicated to your DR. So, it is not all functioning from a single server. We have like three or four of those forms of replications.

Its scalability is good. I've been testing Veeam since around 2013 and they have constantly expanded their features, improving day by day. Our management particularly likes this about Veeam, and we are hoping Veeam will keep working to add more hypervisor support, such as for Oracle OEM. That would make it really easy for us to scale up our usage of Veeam even further.

Veeam Backup & Replication is so much easier now with the new license,. Now you can scale out without any problem, there is no limitation, by the license to scale out. This is a good thing on Veeam, so you can actually scale out according to the customer needs. There is no restriction on customer capacity, on sizes, etc... Nowadays, it is a good thing that they migrated to this type of license which is not depends on the NO core processor. So, if the customer has enough instances, he can backup for anything and he can expand without any limitation.
I already have some enterprise customer including one big global company. Most of the other customers are small-medium. , now we can expand to the number of enterprise customer because once you become compatible with IBM, Sun Solaris ,Linux and these High end OS, you will have a lot of new customers in the enterprise area.

Veeam Backup & Replication demonstrates impressive scalability through its modular architecture. By utilizing multiple proxies and repositories, users can effectively distribute the workload and achieve load balancing. This scalability feature allows the solution to adapt and accommodate varying environments. Thus far, there haven't been any encountered scenarios where scaling became a significant challenge.

It is scalable. We have many users of this solution.
Veeam doesn't focus on a particular segment. Small, medium, and large businesses can use it for backup. Solutions such as Veritas, Commvault, and Rubrik are more focused on the enterprise segment, and they are not really SMB friendly. Veeam has really excelled on that part.
If you are a small business today, you'll grow tomorrow, and Veeam will grow with you. There are certain scenarios where Veeam is not a perfect fit, but for a vast majority of scenarios, Veeam is basically the number one solution in the market, especially now with their new release in which they have a new feature to conduct beautiful backups to Linux repositories.
The main challenge for small and medium businesses has been the investment in backup storage that can provide such features. Most of the solutions that can provide such features are pretty expensive, and they weren't an option for small and medium businesses. Now, they can just install Veeam on a Windows Server, Linux, Ubuntu, and other systems and configure the backups and store the backups on that storage itself.

This solution is easy to scale. You can scale it up—you just need to give it a repository and then assign the backup to those repositories. It is a little difficult moving the old backup change from one repository to another, and is not as simple as with Datto. Datto has a very simple process and when you continue with the Datto machine with a higher amount of space, they always have their pool containing all the previous backups. They also move all those backups to new storage, so their process is very easy, whereas it's a little difficult with Veeam.
Veeam Backup is mostly suitable for small organizations. For large organizations, I recommend Datto because they're more reliable, in terms of the restoration process. Small organizations may have time to recover things or provide a solution. Basically, it depends on the queue scalability or the RPU and RTO, so you must plan the solution according to that.

I'm not big. We have 200 employees and maybe 50 or 60 or 70 VM's, something like that. We have a data domain appliance that we rent space on that is offsite. We have an extra grade appliance and I have a bunch of CADA disks on a net app for just local storage. If that's scalable, I don't know. My understanding is that I can create more, but everything is local. So I don't have to have remote backup servers. But I understand that with my license I can create remote backup servers, as well.
That sounds like it's pretty straightforward. You link it and you can move backups from one site to another and then recover them off that other site. From what I've read, it sounds amazing, but from what I've done, I've never had to go into any great remote control, remote access or remote sites. So I don't know as far as the scalability goes. It sounds like it can scale up the ying yang. The one thing that I'm aware of though, is that when you're doing the backup, when you're scaling, you wind up with tears, because you have one server backing up a set of VM's, or an environment. And you have another server backing up another environment or another set of VM's.
If you lose one backup server it is able to catalog those backups from another server. I know you can catalog those backups to another server to recover. So it's dynamic. I've had to do that. I've had to build a new server and then recover the catalogs and recover data. It is powerful, it is capable. I like it.
In terms of direct users, it is me and three others that have gotten their fingers into it a little bit by the documentation that I've written on how to do something step by step. But there is really only me managing the system.
We are using this product extensively now.
From the time that we installed it until now, we had to switch from CPU licenses to what they call UL, Universal Licensing. Because CPU licensing was only available on a VMware infrastructure and when we entered do our Nutanix infrastructure, we had to change the licensing model. There was a small cost to doing that because of the way it's licensed. We have not had to increase our license count yet. I will be shortly implementing another version of the Veeam. I think it's a very simple license, it's the five user license. It's in the VLU, but it's not the enterprise version of it, for our computer science department. They will be managing their backups with Veeam and a technician who I will be training.

For example, for VMware and Hyper-V and physical workloads, Veeam is pretty scalable. However, if you have a really huge Nutanix cluster and you are fixed with only one proxy, Veeam is not that scalable even though you can increase the RAM in the CPU.

It's a scalable solution. We started out with a few issues, and after we purchased Office 365 it was easy to store and proceed with other backups.
This is a backup of the applications and data. We don't have any users who access it.

Veeam is changing its licensing model and I think scaling will be more difficult. I didn't study in a deep way, but I remember last year's licensing model for scalability was easy because it's only a licensing processor socket on a host. When they change the licensing model I am not sure if scaling will be easy anymore.

If you have a simple environment, Veeam is useful, but when it comes to scalability and you have a more complex environment, it isn't a good solution for advanced customers that want business continuity or have more complex data centers. For example, if you have three data centers and you're looking for replication between them, or you want to replicate your backup, Veeam isn't the most useful.

Scalability is very good. The only problem that might occur with Veeam is if people do not size it correctly, they can get performance issues. If you don't do the right thing, you always have those types of problems anyway.
Backing up to the cloud, AWS or Azure is fantastic. It's really good. It also backs up applications as well like Oracle, SAP, and so forth. Veeam is a good backup solution.
Scalability with Veeam Backup & Replicate is very good. On our team:
- They try to get the support of reference material for the software base.
- They already made a package using Veeam on a single machine license.
- If you having 50 VM machines, virtual machines, then you can take 10 packages.
- This requires a 1 to 10 heavy package license. Then you can increase your VMs repeatedly.
- If you would like to engage your infrastructure more than 50, more than 100, more than 1000, then you can enterprise license Veeam and have the machines in your infrastructure
My only concern about Veeam Backup & Replicate is that it could be more open.

View full review »The main issue we're still facing with scalability is the fact that the EM (Enterprise Manager) is not designed to handle a very big number of Backup & Replication servers (some of which having hundreds of jobs). As so, we've been recently forced to deploy an EM in each of our HQ locations so that the Veeam infrastructure in the country is managed by it and not by a single unique EM server like we had until now. Automatic upgrades and patches were also an issues, but, as stated above, we seem to have found a solution thanks to the guys from Veeam.
No issues have been encountered so far.

The Veeam Backup environment is only limited to Windows environments because you cannot implement many of the components of different operating systems or environments. You have to resort to Windows. Windows is not the most secure system out there. Perhaps that can also be extended to the applications that you run on the system. In that sense, I think that Veeam Backup has a weakness in relying too much on Microsoft technology and not being able to deploy, for example, the Veeam Backup server on Linux or a Linux machine, and that would be flexible enough for some kind of environmental clients that require some stringent security.
