Veeam Cloud Connect Room for Improvement

The services are constantly improving. For example, there was an issue that made it hard for our service provider to keep track of the billing process for the end-users because the Veeam software did not care how much the service provider charges their clients. The partner was unable to find a way to track the billings. Later, they were able to deploy a new solution by Veeam to resolve the issue and they can account for the billing correctly now. It is called Veeam Service Provider Console. Previously, it was called the Veeam Availability Console. They recently released Veeam Service Provider Console and it really addressed most of the tracking and billing concerns. So, for now, there is nothing I can think of to improve other than the payment gateway integration, which I believe is still possible through API. It has to be customized a little bit. It is still possible, but you have to do it through the APIs. You have to customize it a bit. One other feature that I would like to see that is not on Veeam is the replication of Nutanix VM. I would like to see integrations with Nutanix AHV for replication. We can still backup copy through Cloud Connect via Nutanix in Veeam, but we can not replicate the VMs of Nutanix. The main feature that I would like to see added is support for a more diverse infrastructure. For example, Veeam is meant to provide solutions for the most well-known enterprise vendors but it does not for Microsoft and VMware. Now they are integrating with Linux and with Solaris. But there is still a gap in using KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) which they do not have an agentless backup for. So I would like to see that. The other thing I would like to see is the replication of physical machines. Veeam does provide a mechanism to backup, backup copy, and instantly recover the physical servers to a VM, but it still does not have the option to replicate physical servers. I would like to see that as well. So it does have these problems still, but in terms of Cloud Connect, the solution really works. It used to be an immature product, but now that is not the case. You can track your customer billings and monitor usage better to make sure you are providing a good service. While some things were a problem in the past and some things still linger, it has improved a lot and it is a fine product. View full review »

Veeam offers native deduplication functionality which is an important factor when customers pay for their storage consumption, as is the norm for cloud-based solutions. However, Veeam's native deduplication, which also applies to Veeam Cloud Connect, is not always as efficient as the deduplication ratios achieved when using Veeam's native S3 cloud integration. That being said, Microsoft's ReFS has helped a lot in this regard. View full review »

I would like to see the solution able to back-up from KVM. There have been major improvements with the response times over the lower bandwidth coming from the internet over Cloud Connect, with a lower bandwidth connection. I also think the cost factor is a major issue for Veeam because it's a very expensive soluton especially when the client wants support for VMware. The cloud is agnostic and apart from our Hyper-V and VMware environment, being a service provider we also have clients that are just using KVM as a hypervisor. View full review »

I can't think of any improvements at the moment. The solution should allow for interfacing with other public cloud vendors. They could work to build something around that concept. There should be a way to easily migrate from one cloud provider to another. View full review »

We were interested in investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in VMware. VMware right now is one of the biggest solutions in the world, in terms of the IT environment. But for Cloud Connect it's not. I think they need the cloud version to reach more customers, to enable the cloud version to be used by more people. The solution could use more web optimization and some networking features than what they have currently. If they could work to integrate more with other solutions, such as Cisco API, that would be helpful. Security is very good, but from the networking side of things, I think we need more enhancements. The possibility to move texts to cloud storage would be ideal. That may be coming in a future version. It would be ideal if my storage wasn't directly attached to some other type of cloud storage, and was just in Cloud Connect instead of having to be on Amazon, or Azure, or Wasabi as well. We need the solution to offer IT storage. View full review »

It would be helpful if the enterprise edition was more complete. It's not as complete as the enterprise plus edition is. For instance, in the enterprise version, we can only use one accelerator with the cloud provider. It means if I have my Cloud Connect, I cannot connect another site of mine with another cloud connect and use an accelerator of Veeam. They should change this. View full review »

The security of encrypted data could be better. Better encryption is needed. The backup solution is related to our data, and they need to encrypt data without utilizing the bandwidth. We would like to see them minimize the bandwidth between all sides. View full review »

I think the pricing could be improved and I also think archiving could be improved. Veeam doesn't do the archiving. When I offer the client Veeam or Veritas, the client prefers Veritas because of the price. I think Veeam was a better choice for this company. I would like to see both email archiving and file archiving as additional features. View full review »

Currently, there isn't too much that can be added to improve the service. We already have a pipeline that checks the program for enhancements and we'd be more than happy to see them added in the future. The pricing is too high. The customer is always asking if there's a way to reduce it. View full review »
