Veritas Backup Exec Initial Setup
The initial setup of Veritas Backup Exec is simple. The solution is easy to integrate into systems. You only need to have IP addresses and VLANs and then it is easy to set up.
View full review »The initial setup was straightforward. It's pretty user-friendly, although basic training is necessary. Any person with IT knowledge should be able to set it up. Depending on the hardware, the process could take around one hour to complete.
View full review »The complexity of the initial setup depends on the workload. The process involves installing agents for the relevant workloads and configuring backup schedules based on criticality and recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs). During this phase, decisions are made regarding which backups will be full or incremental and whether duplication will be implemented. Additionally, considerations are given to the features to be enabled, such as deduplication, compression, or encryption.

The setup is easy but ongoing management depends on whether the infrastructure is physical or virtual.
Backups take 40 minutes but can be complex depending on the environment.
I rate the setup process a four out of ten.
View full review »It’s effortless to set up the solution. It’s not difficult at all. I’d rate it a four out of five in terms of the ease of setup.
The deployment is swift and doesn’t take too much time. We didn’t really have a specific strategy going into the implementation.
We only need one person to handle deployment and maintenance tasks.

We are a BFSI company. We need to keep a log of eight to nine years. We are concerned about the log getting deleted whenever we upgrade the tool. We need our oldest log to be migrated easily to our new version. It is the only concern we have. The deployment takes a year. It is easy to maintain the tool. One person is enough to maintain the tool.
The initial setup has medium complexity. It takes one working day to complete. I rate the process a seven out of ten.

Firstly, we need to continue operating with the customer to understand their requirements. For example, they need the retention policy set for their email backups. Most customers prefer a weekly backup schedule and two to three months of retention. This clarification is crucial. However, during installation, it typically takes just one day for setup and configuration

It is very simple and straightforward. It is done in 30 minutes. One engineer is enough for its deployment.
The whole implementation in a small-sized or medium-sized environment takes a maximum of three days. In a large one, it depends on the number of machines and different use cases that you're looking at, but usually, in a week, you are done. In the first two to three days, you would have done quite a lot of the deployment. It is just more about having conversations with the backup admin to understand, for example, how often they want the data backed up and other little things, but in terms of getting the solution to work, it is pretty straightforward.

We find the solution to be straightforward to set up. It's not overly complex or difficult. I'd rate it a ten out of ten in terms of ease of implementation.
We always keep three people (engineers) on the solution. During the implementation, we have three people there, and they can handle maintenance once it is up. If, for a backup, somebody's not available for a particular reason, we'll be covered as we don't rely on one person.

Normally we take about two hours. It's just that sometime if the environment is old then you have to fix the environment first. But if everything work 100%, two hours, max four hours and then you're done.

Generally, Web Backup is more complex, but Backup Exec is easy to use.
The initial setup is not very complex. I've deployed in different projects, but installation was the easiest part for me. Having a good plan for the backup solution is more complex than installation, I think. You have to consider the concurrent back-up jobs and the speed and data growth.
It is good that you don't need to install an extra database.

The initial implementation was actually fairly easy. It was pretty straightforward. I actually just rebuilt it and put it onto a newer server. It is actually very easy.
I had deployed within a day due to the fact that I was familiar with it. If somebody wasn't familiar with it, might take them up to a couple of days to do it. I was very familiar with it and therefore could do it pretty fast. It took me just a few hours or probably a day's worth of work to get everything in there, the way I wanted it.
We do not require any additional staff for deployment and maintenance.

The initial setup was pretty simple because we have expertise. We are partners with Veritas and we do installations on a regular basis.
In reality, the installation time is even shorter for the Veritas portion. Integration, of course, takes a bit of time. You need approvals for the different application owners, for example. It takes time, but installation is a maximum of one day.

View full review »Setup can be both straightforward and complex. If you're talking about just a single installation, it's straightforward. But if you come back to the client-server architecture, it's complex because it has to match the versions and it has a one-version backup compatibility. If you had to go back to a previous version, then you struggle. Thus, it's simple for standalone but is complex for the client-server architecture.
