What is most valuable? The backup feature was the most valuable for us. We used it on the exchange and SQL for mass files and folders. When we did backups, we did full backups as opposed to incremental ones. We found that for exchange, SQL and even for single… more»
How has it helped my organization? We did a number of restores using the application. Even though the earlier versions of Veritas would not allow us to restore single files, in later versions, maybe around the 2016 version and beyond, we were able to restore single files… more»
What needs improvement? The cost is quite high. Along with the general costs, the supposed agents that you have to buy for the various options that you want to use ends up driving the costs higher as well. There was also one time when I tried to use the disaster… more»
What other advice do I have?We used the on-premise version of the solution. The dashboard was good. I loved to see the maintenance dashboard every time I logged on. That was my first screen because it always gave me a reminder of how many days before my next renewal… more»
Which other solutions did I evaluate? From the outset, we had heard a lot of feedback from colleagues, so we went directly to Veritas. We didn't do an evaluation of other solutions.

What is most valuable?I prefer to use a tape library and Veritas Backup Exec is fully compatible with different tape libraries. So I prefer this software. Of course, all of the solutions are agent-based, but granular recovery, GTR, works well in Backup Exec. It was Symantec in the past. I can easily recover a user or a… more»
How has it helped my organization?I remember in the 2010 version you needed to have two jobs per data source; one job for full backup and another job for a differential. But now you can merge both of them into a single record and have different schedules for them. The results and the interface are better now, and there is no extra… more»
What needs improvement? In the past, it was not user-friendly. But nowadays it's very user friendly. But it could be better if it had a web-based interface. A web console would be great because nowadays a lot of products are web-based and you can access the console from various environments. So I would recommend bringing… more»
What other advice do I have?On a scale of one to ten, I would rate Veritas Backup Exec an eight. I would advise that it's not important which product you use because I think most of the products are good quality and nowadays have at least a standard because of technological enhancements, but it's more important to understand… more»

Gives us a good view of what's happening on the network and it's now easier for us to correct and to troubleshoot network issues
What is most valuable? It gives us a very good view of what's happening on the network. The security feature is very good as well. The network isn't open to everyone. It's open only to those who work on it. One improvement… more»
What needs improvement? We occasionally have false positives, but the solution certainly has a good configuration. In terms of improvements, I think the pricing model could be improved. They charge you by port, for every… more»
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?Licensing is based on the number of ports you have. Even if you aren't using all the ports, you will be charged for them. The license is renewed on a yearly basis and we do pay for support on top of… more»
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?I tested the solution about six years ago. We checked other solutions too, but we decided that this one was the one that would work best. Since then we've been very happy with it.
What other advice do I have?We use the on-premises version of the solution. For what we need, for how we're using the solution, it does what it's supposed to do. If I were to give advice about the product to others, I would say… more»
Which other solutions did I evaluate? We evaluated Forescout at the time. The system was more complicated and more complex. I don't know how it is today, however. It took a lot more time to integrate it into the company. It also had… more»

How has it helped my organization? This solution allows my clients to restore a backup from a specific point in time.
What needs improvement? The price of this solution is very high. It has a lot of features, but it is still kind of expensive for emerging markets, for example, in Africa. The problem comes from the fact that it costs more to… more»
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? There is an evaluation license available to test this solution.
What other advice do I have?Depending on the size of the data being backed up, it can take a couple of hours to complete. This is a solution that keeps evolving with technology. They know the trend of cyber attacks, so Veritas… more»
Which other solutions did I evaluate? My clients have used Micro Focus Data Protector (when it was called HP Data Protector), and they were not satisfied with it.

What needs improvement?A lot of backup solutions are coming out now and a lot of new disaster recovery software is coming. We should see an updated cycle in six months or one year. Veritas… more»
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? For Backup Exec usage, the client uses the software with us because we have a license for this product. The license availability we have is for ten years. Licensing is… more»
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We were also using Symantec Enterprise Vault.
What other advice do I have? For our internal purposes, Veritas Backup Exec is very good, but for disaster recovery, you should go with another product. Nowadays, everything is going on the cloud and… more»
Which other solutions did I evaluate? This solution we are using now is only for the data backups. The last data recovery we were on had different features and functionality. Disaster recovery is only part of… more»

What is most valuable? The beauty of the solution is that you can rely on it. It offers a quick recovery time when it's backing up items. The way it recovers data is excellent. Sometimes with other software, a complete backup doesn't happen. With Veritas, the… more»
How has it helped my organization? The most important part of any organization is the data. When you do a backup, you want the data to be available whenever it is required. Veritas offers a more predictable backup and recovery process.
What needs improvement? The licensing packet is confusing. If Veritas could do a better job of clarifying it, that would be helpful. For example, if you have a mixed environment of Linux and Windows, you end up buying too many licenses. If you compare it to Veeam… more»
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? We have licenses that run on a yearly basis. We are paying somewhere around $10-15,000 on licensing a month. We don't have too big of an environment.
What other advice do I have? We're a reseller of this solution. We also use an on-premises version in our offices. It is the most preferred backup solution for data protection for our customers. We use it ourselves for our production environment backup. Whoever is… more»

What is most valuable? The most valuable features for me are the ease of restoring the data and the backup window.
How has it helped my organization? It allowed us to step up to a better backup routine from the previous product we were using.
What needs improvement?I think that the one place the product could improve the most is in user-friendliness. If you compare it with Veritas' NetBackup, for example, that difference is pretty clear. They could take a lesson… more»
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The cost of Veritas is really mid-range for this class of product, I would say. Everything is included in one license and there are no additional, hidden costs.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We were using Data Protection Manager prior to Backup Exec. We switched to Veritas because we saw by comparison that it was a better product for our situation with more capabilities.
What other advice do I have?My advice to anyone considering this product would be to know how many servers have to be covered and the complexity of the environment as well as the capabilities of Backup Exec. Veritas cannot… more»

What is most valuable? The most valuable feature is the SLP, and using it has been very beneficial.
How has it helped my organization?Veritas is the main backup solution in our company. We have hundreds of virtual machines that we back up. They are VMware, Windows, and physical servers. It makes our backup process so stable and robust. Everybody with every kind of OS and service depend on our backup structure.
What needs improvement? The user interface needs improvement. When comparing the user interface to other backup and replication products, it is greatly lacks in UI. In some cases when I have an error, I need to use the command line. I prefer to have access to the logs of different services through UI and even to the… more»
What other advice do I have?I have suggested this solution to four of five people. For big companies, with more than fifty people, I recommend this product completely. However, for companies with less than fifty people, I don't suggest it. For the installation, you need at least two servers and a tape librarian. This is a good… more»
