Veritas Backup Exec Scalability
The scalability of Veritas Backup Exec is good. Veritas has physical hardware appliances, and hard disks, you can easily upgrade your backup appliances to have more storage if needed. It is easy to scale.
We have approximately 200 people who use this solution in my organization. We are happy with the usage at this time.
I recommend this solution for large-scale and enterprise companies.
View full review »I rate the platform's scalability as seven out of ten. There may be limitations on backing up or restoring large data sets. Enterprise software typically offers features like multiplexing to handle large amounts of data more efficiently than Backup Exec, primarily designed for smaller environments.

The solution is scalable and good when compared to other products that cause worry when performing backups.
View full review »It has agents. I didn't need any strategy in terms of scaling. When I need to add an extra device, I just install the new agents. I didn't force the limits, like Backup Exec. I didn't force the limit, so I can’t speak to the maximum expansion capabilities.
We have four people using the solution. They are system admins.
We do not plan to increase usage anytime soon.

View full review »It's a good product for SMB-level clients.
So, we don't use features like replication much. We have SMB customers, and they can't afford the high bandwidth lines needed. We typically use it for on-site backup recovery only.
However, we are aware of the repeatability offered by Backup Exec. Although we haven't implemented it yet, if needed, we can refer to the documentation. We've heard the application is good, but we haven't tested it ourselves.

With regard to scalability, Veritas Backup Exec is a good solution for very small enterprise clients. If you have big systems, you must move to NetBackup if you stay with Veritas.
We have 10 to 12 people who use this solution.

I don't know how compatible it is with a cloud environment, but for scalability for SMB companies it's good because you could have one central management and deploy different servers in different areas and manage it in a single, central point. I think it is good for SMB's.
Generally, I use this solution for servers and not for clients.
It is good for small and medium clients. Although I think that it would not be popular with enterprise companies. I don't have experience in a closed environment. But I think if you don't have this environment, it would be good and suitable for them too.
View full review »Veritas is suitable for medium-sized companies across various market sectors such as retail, oil and gas, etc. We can receive additional licenses. There is no issue with storage.
I rate the solution’s scalability a 7 or 8 out of 10.

The solution's scalability is actually getting better. I have not tried to go into the virtual world with it, however, it says that the product can do it. I've not tried it due to the fact that we're using the other products for it, and have Veeam for a virtual solution.
There are three of us that would potentially could go into the product to use it. That includes a network administrator and myself.
At this point, we don't have plans to increase usage.

This is a very scalable solution. If you want to scale outside of our building then it can be done easily. It just requires installation of a new media server that is then joined to the master server. I have not seen another backup solution as scalable as this one.

In terms of Scalability, we haven't done much with it. I'm not sure how scalable Veritas is because we only have three or four sellers on one site.
We have multiple sites, and each one is managed by a different Backup Exec.

I would give the scalability an 8/10. We have more than 50 to 60 servers. We were declined to accomplish what the servers needed for images at that scale.
We can support 50 servers and after that, we use some higher angle or higher position user permissions for backups because of our infrastructure requirements.
For deployment and maintenance, we only require 4-5 people.

The solution isn't really giving us what we need. We're seeing some limitations and we're finding it doesn't support us in the way we need it to. Therefore, we are looking at potentially moving off of it in the near future.
Normally we have about 17 people on the system, and three core people that handle the solution directly.
I'd advise a company, if it is smaller, or needs a comprehensive solution or a virtual environment, that Veritas may not be the best option.

As I start getting into the newer releases - I'm not at the most current release - I'll start taking a look not only at backing up on-prem data, but also the stuff that's in the cloud, stuff that's in Office 365, that's in Azure. We need to start reaching out and grabbing our data that's out there and successfully backing it up.

For small enterprises, Backup Exec works flawlessly; However, they were trying to push us to their bigger enterprise backup, which was NetBackup. When I left my previous company, we were actually in the phase of implementing NetBackup. They recommend NetBackup for larger enterprises.
Overall, It scales up, but only to a certain point. If you want something bigger, you should look into NetBackup.

It's not so scalable. If you need flexibility and scalability, you probably need different products. You need to go with a more advanced product, NetBackup for example.
If you have to go with scale, you should choose an enterprise product. This product, from my point of view, is more of a simple product.

Most of our clients are medium and enterprise-sized organizations.
View full review »The product has limited scalability. It comes down to the hardware, i.e. what we are using, based on its limitations. It can support anything. If you're OK to scale in terms of your hardware, it's going to support you; that is not a problem. But, the licensing structure is quite complex and, as mentioned, this is where they could improve. Licensing is quite complex to understand, we have to go back to the vendor every time to get the right product.
