Veritas Backup Exec Other Solutions Considered

The solution has similar features to other products but nothing in particular stands out.
The solution used to be a leader in the SME market. In 2010, it rolled out a new design with enhanced features but the 2012 update completely collapsed. The solution often changes names but there have been no improvements since 2012. It is also a headache to restore and fully trust corrupted Active Directories. The solution is failing due to lost market share that was captured by other products.
The virtualization movement happened drastically and VMware captured it because the solution was still an agent-based operation that required both client and virtualization licenses.
RecoverPoint has good replication because it manages split writing.
The only product that wows users is Veeam which operates in an agentless system. Acronis is doing well with its imaging solutions but they do not compete with or eliminate Veeam's dominance. At one point Veeam had issues restoring smaller files but the new release does extraordinary restoration.

For a time we were, long ago, we were using both Acserve and Backup Exec (it was physical
servers at the time, some servers were backed up with Arcserve and others
with Backup Exec). We decided to simplify this and kept the best of the two.
I recently was asked to evaluated Veeam. My conclusion was that for our needs Veeam did not bring anything that backup exec was perfectly able to do, and Veeam was significantly more expensive.

Cohesity and Rubrik are both more modern and have a simpler user interface to use in case recovery is necessary.

This solution we are using now is only for the data backups. The last data recovery we were on had different features and functionality.
Disaster recovery is only part of our backup solution for our internal operations. Other backup solutions were not as reliable, i.e. the previous solution crashed. After that, I knew that Backup Exec solution was what I was looking for because it has better features for recovery.

The three most popular solutions are Veritas, Veeam, and Commvault.
View full review »Definitely, we evaluated different options. We evaluated this product on different levels. We evaluated it for various backups such as the Linux backup, and we also used it for several other purposes and found that it's a better solution. That was why we chose this application.
The only challenge we are facing is that the Center Management is not as good as Arcserve, but it still works. The Center Management dashboard is not so user-friendly and that is the only thing we struggle with.

There were no other vendors on our shortlist. We did evaluate a few other products, but our customers did not need the whole portfolio.

View full review »We evaluated Forescout at the time. The system was more complicated and more complex. I don't know how it is today, however. It took a lot more time to integrate it into the company. It also had false-positive issues, so we decided against it.
View full review »We evaluated many other options back at that time.
View full review »From the outset, we had heard a lot of feedback from colleagues, so we went directly to Veritas. We didn't do an evaluation of other solutions.
