We are casually looking into alternative solutions. We are looking at Commvault, Rubrik, Cohesity, and Dell. Mostly, we are interested in enterprise-level products.

I have used Commvault Backup & Recovery, Rubrik, IBM, and Dell NetWorker and found that Veritas NetBackup is the most stable.

We evaluated Commvault Backup & Recovery, a powerful backup solution, but their support was not as good as NetBackup's. Commvault charged extra for support in order to access their forums.

We looked at other options, including Veeam and Data Protector.
View full review »We're currently looking at other solutions that could replace it. We have some additional needs that NetBackup can fill, but it may not be the cheapest option, so we're looking at other solutions.
We are looking at Dell and also at maybe build our own solution. If we chose the later route, we would keep what we have with NetBackup but our own addition to it.

We also looked at Cohesity and decided to go with Rubrik. Rubrik was just simpler and easier to manage. As a result, we went from 12 to 15 members staff to 1 member.

We did evaluate other solutions. This offered good documentation that was quite accessible.
We did look into Commvault, which is an awesome tool. However, it had some limitations with accessibility and knowledge sharing.

Sometimes we would look at other options before going with Veritas NetBackup. For example, Backup Exec, which is like a sister product of NBU, and they were really for smaller size companies. Commvault was another one that we were looking at.

Currently, we're evaluating Cohesity. It is a new solution that we are starting to assess. We're looking at whether it's the right solution to replace our existing NetBackup.
Right now, our entire organization is a NetBackup supporter. However, we also understand that the cost of the backup is actually extremely high. We are actually looking at some sort of alternative at this point.

We evaluated other solutions but nothing else fulfilled our need for hybrid enrollment. We were not confident that other solutions would support other architecture. So we went ahead with this solution.

I am currently evaluating NetBackup as it's required for use on the cloud.
View full review »I have evaluated other solutions, such as VMware and it is less expensive then Veritas NetBackup. The cost of the solution depends upon how much space you are going to take it. For one TB, it costs almost 190 SR. For maintenance and for a new additional deployment it cost approximately 150 to 170 SR.

When evaluating and choosing a solution, it depends on the situation. We choose the best solution for our customers, so it's hard to say if I would recommend Veritas over Veeam. In many ways, Veritas is a unique product. It has advantages when you want to transfer your data over SAN. SAN backup solutions are very important in some environments. Where window time is very limited for them and a huge amount of data needs to be transferred in less than five or six hours a day, we have to use a SAN backup feature. In this area, Veeam is not good compared to Veritas NetBackup. When you want to use this feature, you have to share the mainline of your storage with Veeam Backup, and many customers refuse to adopt this method of SAN backup. Many customers don't want to compromise their source of data, so they prefer Veritas' SAN backup in this area. I think it's one of the best, like IBM TSM.

We were evaluating other products and getting confused between Commvault and Veritas NetBackup. The one reason that we started with Veritas NetBackup is the pricing of the license. There's no other reason from a technical perspective or even operation or capability of the two software. The main reason we chose Veritas NetBackup was that in our use case it is more cost-effective.

We did not evaluate other options.
We did not evaluate other solutions before this product, but while this product was in a smaller environment, we evaluated EMC solutions, Rubrik, TSM, and HPE Data Protector. The solutions that offered robust feature sets like NBU were more expensive or more complex. They either lack features or they are too new, such as Rubrik. Some are very expensive for the same feature set with EMC's solutions.
