VMware RabbitMQ Previous Solutions

AF
Director Consulting Services at M3tech

When I joined my current company, I initially explored Apache Kafka, but I realized that Kafka is primarily a log system rather than a queuing system. I encountered limitations with Kafka, such as maintaining pointers for each process and manually removing messages from the queue.

Comparatively, RabbitMQ proved to be more convenient as it automatically deletes messages from the queue when using auto or manual acknowledgment. Considering these factors, we switched from Kafka to this solution due to its efficiency.

We analyzed our requirement thoroughly and were sure that RabbitMQ was the solution for us. We didn’t look at anything else.

We tested some earlier version of Apache Kafka, but it wasn't stable enough at the time. At the moment, we're considering switching back to Apache Kafka.

Our initial solution was a simple web API. We quickly realized that it would be difficult to maintain.

Scalability and reliability were my primary concerns. HTTP has no reliable delivery built-in, like AMQP does. Changing API versions would have been more difficult if we had stuck with HTTP.

Other departments might use, for example, Kafka, however, I'm unsure as I have no visibility on them.

Previously, we were using MSMQ, which is the Microsoft Message Queuing service. However, with the new version of .NET 4, support for MSMQ was no longer available. We could no longer get the libraries. As a result, we had to switch to a different queue mechanism.

I have also used Azure Queue.
