User Assessments By Topic About vRealize Operations (vROps)

vRealize Operations Manager (vROps): VMware's vRealize Operations Manager (vROps) is an important component of the vRealize Suite, that is made-up of the cloud management layer in the software-defined data center model. vROps can also be used on its own rather than as part of vRealize Suite. Some of the key features that I like in this product are: * Intelligent Operations * Policy-based Automation * Unified Management With features like predictive analytics, intelligent workload management and Smart Alerts for the application/infrastructure, users get full visibility at the virtual layer. This further enables to proactively identify and remediate the performance, capacity and configuration issues. By default, the out-of-the-box and customizable policies for critical IT operations are associated with Smart Alerts, guided remediation and compliance standards. This helps vROps users to view recommendations, trigger actions that optimize performance/capacity and enforce configuration standards. Blue Medora's Management Packs for vROps platform: vRealize Operations Manager is an open and extensible platform, which is heavily supported by the third-party Blue Medora plugins, known as the Management Packs. As I mentioned, there is a full analytics engine-based in vROps. By adding Blue Medora’s True Visibility Suite to vRealize Operations, it extends the visibility beyond the virtualization layer to a broader infrastructure and application. This Suite of agentless Management Packs aggregates operational data from the leading cloud, storage, compute, network and database applications into the vRealize Operations engine for richer analytics. With the full-stack visibility in a single console, companies can standardize on just one monitoring and alerting platform (e.g. vROps) rather than using siloed solutions for different systems. Once the Blue Medora Management Packs are installed and configured in vROps, the monitoring solution is Day 1 Operations ready. Every Management Pack comes with at least 6-7 different types of out-of-the-box dashboards. There is no customization required when it comes to dashboards, but users are free to custom build dashboards using the metrics, objects, and resources that the Management Pack exposes to vROps.
One of the customers who I have worked with in the past, faced issues in correctly monitoring their infrastructure in one platform. Furthermore they weren't able to access issues/alerts for troubleshooting purposes. It was a global service provider company with a good client base. They were using monitoring tools other than vROps, and there was no visibility of certain systems. As a result, their service level agreements (SLAs) were affected when it came to delivering projects or fixing issues for their clients. Going forward, the service provider and its clients, both wanted to have full access and visibility to their Infrastructure using one monitoring solution in the form of dashboards, alerting and monitoring various systems with recommendations/fixes for issues. Solution: It was decided to use vRealize Operations Manager for monitoring, analysis and alerting purposes. This solution included adapters, management packs, specific metrics, dashboards, and reports. With the help of Blue Medora's Management Packs (TVS Enterprise Suite), the client had visibility and the ability to view the entire infrastructure (vSphere, networks, storage, compute and OS) in the dashboards. The analytical cluster represented six identical vROps appliances (nodes). These nodes participated in a highly available cluster spanned within the vRealize Cloud Management platform. Remote collectors were deployed at various sites to collect and forward the data from the external systems to the vROps analytics cluster. This provided a single-pane-of-glass management, monitoring and reporting interface for the dedicated IT support team with the ability to create custom vROps dashboards. Alerts were forwarded from vROps to the ServiceNow ticketing system via vRealize Orchestrator. In this solution, the following Blue Medora Management Packs were used: * Cisco Networking * Dell EMC Hardware * Dell EMC VMAX * F5 BIG-IP * Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) * Microsoft SQL Server * Nagios Result: The Blue Medora vRealize Operations Management Packs extended VMware vRealize Operations (vROps) and enabled the system administrators to gain comprehensive visibility/insights into the performance, capacity, and health of all their virtualized workloads. This allowed the administrators to: * Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot their entire environment within a single console. * Monitor the health, performance, and capacity using full-stack dashboards that covered everything from the application to infrastructure layer. * Automate the weekly senior management reporting process using templates. * Improve the SLAs by simplifying troubleshooting and eliminating alert storms. * Reduce the issue analysis up to 50% by pinpointing issues when they arise and by resolving them faster before it affected the end users. * Maximize the performance while minimizing investment and boosting the IT productivity by 67%.
