No installation needed
Pros and Cons
  • "There was no installation necessary."
  • "MS Office or Internet Explorer has a big ribbon on top, which occupies needed space."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution solely on desktops, for running personal applications.

What is most valuable?

I do not use the solution out of any particular preference. It is simply that my company utilizes it and I must follow suit.

What needs improvement?

Certain aspects of the solution are really complicated and should be simplified. I am referring to features we utilize daily, such as those used for finding things and Internet Explorer.

MS Office or Internet Explorer has a big ribbon on top. While it may be useful, it occupies a lot of screen space. My laptop contains a very small screen of just 13 inches, which is full HD, meaning that the forms already appear very small. As the ribbon occupies some of this needed space, reducing it would free up that which is on the screen.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Windows 10 for the last three years.

How are customer service and support?

When it comes to technical support, I generally have to reach out to my local IT guys.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before using the solution, we made use of Windows 7.

How was the initial setup?

There was no installation necessary.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We don't spend anything for the license. I prefer the full license, not the one for cloud.

What other advice do I have?

The solution is used on my personal laptop. I use Windows 10. I don't run tests on my own. I do everything on my office infrastructure. For the data and middleware I get support in my office.

The solution is easy to use.

Everyone in my organization uses Windows 10, although I cannot disclose the exact number of users.

I feel compelled to recommend the solution to others, as there are no available alternatives when it comes to desktops.

For desktop usage, I rate Windows 10 as an eight out of ten.

Feature-rich, intuitive, fast, and integrates well with third-party applications
Pros and Cons
  • "I like that it has many features that are easily displayed."
  • "It is incompatible with some communications when you need to share some data."

What is our primary use case?

We use Windows 10 to manage clients, the CRM or ERP such as SAP or Microsoft Dynamics.

What is most valuable?

Windows 10 is an established operating system. It's a good solution.

It is easy and simple to use, and it's also fast.

It's a quiet operating system, that integrates well with third-party applications.

I like that it has many features that are easily displayed.

It is also very intuitive. For example, if I have a printer with no drivers, the Windows Operating System installs it for me. This makes everything easier for me.

What needs improvement?

We are always excited and interested to learn about new features. It would be helpful to know of the newly available features in advance.

I would prefer to talk to the computer as I would speak to a secretary rather than use the keyboard. It would be nice to be able to speak to the computer and ask it to do certain functions or tasks. A voice-activated assistant would be very helpful.

When compared to MacIntosh, or Linux, it would be helpful to include some of their operating system philosophy.

It is incompatible with some communications when you need to share some data.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Windows 10 for ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I don't have any issues with the stability of Windows 10.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Windows 10 is a scalable product.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We also use Windows Server. It's a good operating system. The features meet the requirements of the network.

With Windows Server, the user can print, use the internet, and can use some applications. It is a good characteristic for one server. You don't need several servers because one Windows Server is sufficient.

I would rate Windows Server a nine out of ten.

Windows Server is a scalable product, and it is also stable.

Windows Server integrates well.

How was the initial setup?

I have some common issues with Windows when running the setup again. Sometimes it is difficult because of the new features that have been added. Given the time to learn about them, it would be easier for me.

The initial setup can sometimes be simple and other times it can be complex. For a new user, it may be complex.

What other advice do I have?

I started working with Windows in 1993.

I would rate Windows 10 a nine out of ten.

Integrates with everything that I am using, gives me everything as a user, and allows me to easily sort apps
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the main window pane where you can sort your mostly used and different types of apps, such as OneDrive, Google Chrome, and Access. I can just open up the main window, and those apps are right there at my fingertips. I moved from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and it took me a little while to get used to Windows 10, but once I got used to it, I do like it. It integrates with everything that I am using, and it gives me everything that I need as a user."
  • "It takes a lot of hard drive space when you're using it. I also have Windows 10 on my personal computer, and it does take up an awful lot of hard drive space. This is probably something about which nothing can be done, and it is just a pet peeve of mine."

What is our primary use case?

It is on my laptop, and it is given to me as an employee. My Windows did an update last night, so I am sure I have its latest version. I also have it on my personal computer.

What is most valuable?

I like the main window pane where you can sort your mostly used and different types of apps, such as OneDrive, Google Chrome, and Access. I can just open up the main window, and those apps are right there at my fingertips. What needs improvement?

It takes a lot of hard drive space when you're using it. I also have Windows 10 on my personal computer, and it does take up an awful lot of hard drive space. This is probably something about which nothing can be done, and it is just a pet peeve of mine.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Windows 10 for three years.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have not gone to tech support. I never had a problem.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is easy. There are always patches that go out. I've been selling Office 365 to customers, and there are always patches. That's just the way Microsoft does things, but the one positive thing is that when things are recognized, patches do get done fairly fast, and then they're sent out. In my official case, they're sent out to my IT department. In my personal case, the patches are done automatically.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Windows 10 an eight out of ten.

Feature rich, stable and scalable operating system
Pros and Cons
  • "In terms of most valuable feature, it has all the features. We have to use the workforce application like Microsoft Office 365. We are dependent on the operating system."
  • "In terms of what could be improved, I would say the security patches. The security patches do not come very frequently with the operating systems."

What is our primary use case?

The use case is that it is an operating system. People use Windows as an operating system. If you have a laptop at home, you may operate from it. We use desktop machines in our organizations and every user has a Windows operating system.

What is most valuable?

In terms of most valuable feature, it has all the features. We have to use the workforce application like Microsoft Office 365. We are dependent on the operating system.

What needs improvement?

In terms of what could be improved, I would say the security patches. The security patches do not come very frequently with the operating systems. So this requires a lot of improvement because the security patches only come every now and then.

For how long have I used the solution?

We started using Windows 10 four to five years ago. Before that we had Windows 7.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Windows 10 is stable. There's no doubt about it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is good. From one to five, I would give it a four.

Right now we have 1,000 plus people working on it.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

I wold advise them to check out the licensing, which needs improvement. They should consider it because the Microsoft operating system works with Microsoft Office license. We have to pay separately. I think they should prepare a package, with the operating system and the M365 license combined and there should be a big, good, and attractive package for the customers. This would be an improvement on the product.

On a scale of one to ten I would give Windows 10 an eight.

Simple solution with great SSD speed
Pros and Cons
  • "The speed with SSD is great."
  • "Microsoft could improve the support for installing programs."

What is our primary use case?

We use Windows 10 for regular office jobs and automation design.

What is most valuable?

The speed with SSD is great. Before Windows 10, it was so slow, but after Windows 10, it's ten times faster with SSD. We have been using Windows programs for about 20 years and have upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7, then to Windows 10.

What needs improvement?

Microsoft could improve the support for installing programs. It should be easy to install programs from Microsoft and search in the Microsoft Store.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for seven years. It is Windows 10 Enterprise, and we are using version 19.09.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's scalable, and we have about 1500 people using this solution in my company.

How are customer service and support?

We have never used the technical support team.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward and was the best thing we have done. We had an SSD and USB 3.0 flash disk, and it took 40 minutes.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have a commercial license for all of our competitors, and it is sensitive.

What other advice do I have?

I rate this solution a nine out of ten. Regarding advice, it is very simple, and if you know how to use a computer, you can use it.

If you install and maintain it correctly, you'll never have problems with stability
Pros and Cons
  • "The things I like most about Windows 10 are its stability and ease of use."
  • "They try to make it user-friendly for non-technical users. But, when you have a little bit of technical experience, you find it difficult to go around UI wrapper."

What is our primary use case?

I use the personal website suite to do some developments on more minor applications or test some of the topics. The professional version of Windows 10 allows multiple users, and it's a bit more challenging to work with that on the home version. The virtualization capabilities and the segregation of the processes are much better. You can stop, start, and control various things due to its support for advanced scripting and stuff like that.

What is most valuable?

The things I like most about Windows 10 are its stability and ease of use.

What needs improvement?

The Windows 10 interface should work more like a tablet, where you do not have to run the program directly. You need to remember the program name by heart and type it into the search or run it in the command prompt. For example, if you want to go directly to the old school install/uninstall programs, it takes a lot of clicks.

They try to make it user-friendly for non-technical users. But, when you have a little bit of technical experience, you find it difficult to go around UI wrapper.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Windows 10 since it first appeared on the market. I use the professional version instead of the home version because it offers me more flexibility, and I'm satisfied with it.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

If you install and maintain Windows 10 correctly, you'll never have problems with stability.

How are customer service and support?

I called Microsoft once or twice when I changed computers because my license is for a specific PC. I haven't had to call them for anything else. In general, I was satisfied with their support, but I only had to call them for a tiny thing.

How was the initial setup?

I just switched to a new PC, and it's something stupid in their installation key. I bought the PC without a Windows 10 license. Usually, when I run the setup, I mount the image to a USB, and it's a simple "next, next, finish" installation. Unfortunately, the drivers to see the new SSD hard disks were not covered in the initial key.

It took me two hours to figure out that I needed to use another PC to download the driver and put the drivers on the original USB stick for Windows. And that was stupid because what if you do not have another PC? You have the original license, the PC, and you cannot make them work together. When the installer asked for the location, I could not see the installation steps on the hard drive. Maybe it's because I had a newer SSD with a particular Intel chipset. God knows what. I spent hours reading scanning forums to find out a small article on a corner of the internet that told me which chipsets I had on the new PC and the necessary driver.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I think the Windows 10 license is affordable. There are no additional costs unless you want to buy subscriptions to OneDrive services and Microsoft Office. I have subscriptions for those services. It doesn't cost much, and I pay it yearly.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Windows 10 a 10 out of 10. However, I don't have much experience with other operating systems to compare it to.
